We hadden een kamer met uitzicht op de tropische tuin, prachtig. Kamer van alle gemakken voorzien. Wel veel problemen gehad bij het inchecken: men vroeg om onze creditcard als borg voor eventuele uitgaven die wij tijdens ons verblijf zouden maken. Onze card werkte echter niet en dat werd als een (abnormaal) groot probleem gezien; ondanks dat wij aanboden om tot 500 dollar cash te 'betalen'; men wilde ons zelfs in 1e instantie als gast weigeren, terwijl het hotel natuurlijk al via hotels.com betaald was. Zeer onaangenaam en men ging pas meewerken nadat we erg hebben opgespeeld; uiteindelijk 100 dollar borg betaald. Geen leuk begin van een verder overigens prima verblijf daar.

Prima locatie om van daaruit San Diego te ontdekken. Naar o.a. de Zoo, het Balbaopark en ophaaladres van huurauto gebracht en opgehaald met shuttledienst van het hotel, ideaal. Schone kamer, van alle gemakken voorzien. Redelijk ontbijt met plastic bordjes en bestek.

Heerlijk hotel, niet ver van Sea World, San Diego Zoo, uss Midway, Gaslamp, Old Town en het strand. Allemaal binnen acceptabele tijd per auto te bereiken. Super mooi hotel met ruime kamers. Het is wel een gehorig hotel, wat vooral in het weekend lawaai met zich mee bracht van buren. Door de weeks was de marine aan de overkant van het water met trainingen bezig. Dit vonden wij niet heel storend, maar het geluid is er wel. Verder zit ontbijt er niet bij in en is heel duur als je dat nog bij wilt nemen. Dat is echt een minpunt. Als je dit hotel boekt, hou er rekening mee dat het twee locaties zijn. Wij zaten in de tower en het 'grotere gebeuren' was verder op. We hadden wel een lobby, servicebalie, restaurant en verwarmd zwembad, dus dat is prima voor elkaar. De starbucks en de grote lobby van de foto's zit in het andere gedeelte. De kamers zijn echt super ruim! We hadden een ruim zitgedeelte en eettafel erbij, en dat voor een gewone kamer. Uitzicht op zee was erg mooi.

Het hotel ligt in de zogenoemde hotel circle, een een groep van meerdere hotels rondom een snelweg die door de stad loopt. Het hotel was goed geprijst en zeer schoon en netjes, wat dat betreft een grote aanrader. Met een (klein) zwembad, spa en fitness al met al zeer comfortabel en een goedkoop alternatief voor de dure hotels op centralere plekken. Nadeel is wel dat je niet naar de stad kan lopen en altijd met een bus of auto moet, en zoals gezegd niet op een romantische locatie. Bus/metrostation is wel in de buurt op circa 10 minuten lopen, halte fashion valley (groot winkelcentrum). Personeel zeer vriendelijk, ook mogelijkheid om auto te huren (verhuurder zit in het hotel).
Ligging.
Holiday Inn Express San Diego Downtown bevindt zich in San Diego, dicht bij Symfoniezaal Copley, Dierentuin van San Diego en Petco Park. In de buurt liggen ook Maritiem museum van San Diego en San Diego Convention Center.
Hotelvoorzieningen.
Dit hotel voor zaken heeft een restaurant en een bar/lounge. Gasten krjjgen gratis ontbijt. Dit hotel met 3 sterren beschikt over zakelijke voorzieningen waaronder een businesscentrum, vergaderruimtes voor kleine groepen en audiovisuele apparatuur. Extra voorzieningen zijn onder andere een buitenzwembad, meertalig personeel en een cadeaushop of kiosk. Gasten kunnen tegen betaling parkeren. Dit is een rookvrije accommodatie.

Holiday Inn Express San Diego Downtown heeft 136 kamers met airconditioning die zijn voorzien van een kluis en een gratis krant. Alle bedden hebben een pillowtop-matras met driedubbele lakens. Alle kamers beschikken over een bureau en een telefoon met directe buitenlijn met voicemail en gratis lokale gesprekken (hiervoor kunnen beperkingen gelden). Elke badkamer is voorzien van een bad/douchecombinatie en een föhn.

De luchthaven van San Diego ligt vlak bij het water en ten noordwesten van het centrum. Je vindt bij de luchthaven het Diego Convention Center, het PetCo Park-stadion en de Gaslamp Quarter's. De restaurants en bars van deze wijk zijn het middelpunt van het nachtleven van de stad. Balboa Park en de San Diego Zoo zijn de groene strook van deze stedelijke jungle. Op Coronado Island heb je een prachtig uitzicht op de skyline van de stad.

"Thinking ahead"
We needed to catch an early flight and had booked a shuttle the day before. When we got to reception they told us that the shuttle driver had been delayed but they had a taxi ready and waiting for us. Excellent service!

"Nice hotel"
We really liked the hotel, nice rooms, bathroom way too small. Short walk to many restaurants, but walk by many homeless on sidewalk.

Room was not ready upon a 4pm checkin. Management made an excuse that that they were too busy to clean. no apologies. had to wait 2 hours for the room to be ready. it was poor planning on the management and bad service altogether. will not stay there again. not to mention the parking is another fee in their parking structure that does not fit anything […] bigger than a mini cooper! Great Hotel near Gaslamp district, just a couple blocks walk. Staff is very friendly and helpful, including front desk and shuttle service. Room was very clean, nice flat screen TV and plenty of pillows too. I would recommend to anyone staying in the Downtown San Diego area.

"It's not fit to San Diego"
i couldn't use internet. even complain to desk. Only two computer in lobby are usable. and wifi can be accesable only in the lobby. Hotel is not harmonize with the City, San Diego. Parking fee oops !

"Good Experience"
We stayed one night at this hotel. Everything was fine. The only negative thing was the traffic noise from the street, which was not too bad but a bit annoying.
"Comfortable, but not the best"
The hotel was useful, safe and clean. It was a bit of an awkward climb to the gas-lamp district and one of their elevators was broken. However, it was functional and comfortable. The breakfast was fine.

I booked a room with two beds, the hotel was over sold so they offered me a king suite. There was no matress in the pull out couch, the bathroom tile was pink and black from mold and the size was that of a shoe box. The fridge made a horrible noise all night, and the cafe they represent for dine in your room refused to tell me a menu and told me it […] was in a drawer in my room somewhere. The hotel is located downtown and nearby to the Gaslamp district - excellent views of the skyline from the room and the outside patio! Great breakfast every morning and very friendly staff! Overall a very good choice!!!

Ok location, more than a few blocks from the harbour, but only a few blocks from downtown and gaslamp areas. Hotel is perfectly average and what you would expect from a Holiday Inn Express, nothing great and nothing bad. Offers free breakfast in morning which is tasty except the bad cheese omelettes.

My wife and I stayed for one night to catch a show at a local jazz club. The customer service at check-in was great! Our room was clean and comfortable and the free breakfast was an added bonus! Also a very convenient location, very close to stores, clubs, shopping; as well as beaches. Would stay again in the future!

My stay here was very satisfactory. Everything that I read about in the reviews was true. The pros- Close to Gas Lamp Quarter (approx. 1 mile away) took about 10 mins to walk there. Very convenient for my boyfriend and I. Close to Petco Park and Zoo. Free breakfast that was actually enjoyable and decent. Cons- The parking lot is very narrow. The elevators […] are insanely slow, but just take the stairs. There are only 3 floors. The bathroom is small, but clean. Overall it was a clean room with a great location for a very decent price. Two friends and I decided to do a last-minute overnight in San Diego. We found the hotel to be a great location being just a few blocks from the Gas Lamp quarter. The carpet was dirty, the TV was old (basic cable but no Vh1), the furniture was of low quality, the bathrooms were small, the towels were cheap, and the beds were lumpy. My boyfriend and I went to San Diego to go to the Padres game. This location was perfect. We could walk nearly everywhere we wanted to go. Great for a one night stay.

Hotel staff was very nice. The warm cookies were appreciated. This is an older hotel with the age really showing. Hallway carpets are old with a generally musty smell. The bathrooms are extremely tiny with no counter space. There is a small ledge above toilet where toiletries could be placed if it were possible to close the lid to the toilet. "Mouldy exoerience"
I was surprised to open my milk container served at Holiday Inn Express San Diego Downtown breakfast and find mouldy growth. I talked to the manager and showed her the evidence, and she was appologetic about the 'inconvenience' . I kept throwing up all day after consuming part of that milk. I took a picture of it when I noticed mouldy growth in the […] milk container. Besides our room was stinky. The carpet was dirty and sticky beyond imagination. "Good place"
Pretty typical holiday inn express. Great breakfast! Eggs, sausage or bacon, pancakes, yogurt, cereals, breads, etc. every day. Their cinnamon buns are to die for! Good location downtown, easy to walk to the trolley stop and other locations downtown. They have a shuttle that will take you to airport, balboa park or cruise ship terminal area, but unfortunately […] it wasn't reliable. Several times we were told to get a cab instead and while they reimbursed us and gave us a cab company to call, we had to wait about 40min for a cab to come get us after a long and tiring day. Was not fun. There are some homeless folks around, but we didn't have any problems. It is on a big hill, but only lasts about one block. Pool is only 3 feet deep. Everything was old. The elevator goes up when you press "down". It was not very clean, the bed was incredibly old and uncomfortable. TINY room and TINY bathroom. Our room's only windows had windows into the hallway. For what we paid...completely ridiculous. STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE.

The Good: - free cookies, lemonade, breakfast - super friendly staff - clean room The Bad: - view from my room (#251) was literally a wall) - on a steep hill, so walking isn't fun for everyone - bathroom was VERY small Overall, I didn't spend a ton of time in my room, but from what I did, I can tell you that it was just a hotel room. "Wonderul was sad to leave"
Staff were very helpful and accomodating.Free Shuttle from hotel to major tourist sites was convenient. (Shuttle comes every 30 minutes). Shuttle drivers Steve and Javier were friendly and informative. Free Breakfast was delicious and filling (pancakes, banana, coffee, tea, muffins, juice, yougurt, cereal, eggs, hot sausage). I found the staff very helpful and pleasant. On check-in the I was personally greeted with a handshake. I felt quite welcome. The carpet in my room was worn and had a couple holes in it, but it was clean. Over all, I would say the room was much cleaner than most motels I've stayed in. Further, it's only a few blocks to the Gaslamp Quarter which is a truly amazing area. The only drawback, which the motel has no control over, is this area of town has a large homeless population. "Very noisy but good location"
I stayed at this hotel for a convention. It was about 20 min walk to the convention center which was a little further than I wanted but not too bad. The main thing is that it's only 3 storeys from the ground floor in the middle of downtown. Now San Diego isn't manhattan, but it is noisy when you're low to the ground, and your window faces the street. […] This is the case with about half the rooms, so it may be quieter on the other side if you can get a room there. Staff was very accommodating and helpful. OK as a place to crash for the night and get a good breakfast in the morning, but the room and bathroom are small and the beds are uncomfortable.

My husband and I found this hotel to be a much better experience than our last trip to San Diego. Our room was a King Suite and it was very nice. The bathroom was a bit small, but the space in the room made up for it. We had a nice view and the staff was very good. Everyone treated us courteously and the breakfast in the morning was great! The Holiday Inn Express sits up on a hill so there is a nice breeze from the bay overlooking west of downtown and the bay. This was a good choice location north of downtown away from the bars, clubs and traffic. Walking distance to the Gaslamp three blocks. Breakfast was comparable to any buffet breakfast for the price. Parking was tight, if you drive […] a large vehicle this could be a problem manuvering around. It will definately be a choice for me next year for the KIFM 98.1 Jazz Festival in the Gaslamp.
