Prima hotel.
Verhouding prijs-kwaliteit was heel goed, ben tevreden.

"prettige sfeer"

"Probably was a luxury hotel 20 years ago"
But still it packs lots of charms
"Just what I needed... mostly."
I was a little hesitant to book a bed in a room with 5 other (unknown) guests, but my stay was enjoyable. The hotel is funky/shabby chic, but CLEAN and everything that counts (floors, bathrooms, furniture) is in very good condition. I loved the relaxed atmosphere and the music playing downstairs. my ONE complaint (with two sub-complaints) was the bedding. […] I was aware from reading that towels were an extra charge, but there seems to be different opinions on sheets. I asked for sheets, blankets, and a pillow, and was told that they were included. They are, sort of. there is a fitted bottom sheet on the bunk beds, a pillow with clean pillow case, and a very old fuzzy rayon blanket- you know, the kind from the 80s? Comfortable enough, but I would have liked a top sheet. Next time, if I can, I'll bring my own. Would I stay there again? Absolutely! Lees meer
"Cheap and fine"
Room was small but clean. The shower was terrible, couldn't get a constant temperature. Although absolutely fine for what I paid.

"Great location but lacks quality"
I've stayed in quite a few hotels in Manhattan. I walk by the Gershwin all of the time and the outside of the building always caught my eye. Very artsy. It also happens to be a great location. Saw a deal online and figured I'd give it a try. Deal turned out not to be worth it after the excessive taxes and miscellaneous surcharges added to the quoted […] price. The outside of the building and lobby were very nice. Rooms are old and dusty. They need to be upgraded. My girlfriend complained about the overpowering smell of bleach on the sheets(but at least we know they were clean). The art was nice but the stay was rather uncomfortable for the price. The water in the shower was scalding hot and there was no happy medium to shower in comfort. The service was not bad. I asked for a late check out and they had no problem with that. Not the worst place ever but don't think I'd stay again. I'd rather walk a few extra blocks and stay in a place that's more comfortable and up to date. Lees meer

Old bldg...radiators...kind of drab hallway outside of room...internet challenged. But....very clean room and comfortable bed. Nice and helpful staff.

"It is more a hostal than a hotel"
It is more a hostal than a hotel. It is ok after you forget minor inconveniences such as no towels or lockers to leave your things. It is affordable compared with other places and the location is close to 5th av. and Broadway although a little dark at night but feels safe around.
"Really good place for students"
Really cheap and the dorm type rooms worked really well. I got some suitcase locks, which worked fine for staying with that many people. Only issue is that there are not enough outlets in the room. They do have a computer room where you can go online and print stuff for a little money. The cafe attached to the hotel was also really good and affordable. […] Overall I was impressed. Lees meer
If you are thinking about booking a dorm room at the Gershwin don't be fooled by the photo on the website. There were 4 bunks...thats 8 beds, in a tiny room with hardly enough space to squeeze between them. The bunks squeaked and shook when ever anyone moved, it was also a mixed dorm. Sheets and towels were extra and the blanket they provided was thin […] and stiff. The area is great and the price is cheap, just don't be disappointed at the quality. Lees meer
"Gershwin Hotel"
We stayed in a 3rd floor room with a queen size bed. The view was towards an alley with a brick wall 2 meters away. The room felt a bit old and shabby, but was ok. There were a lot of events around the lobby: concerts, new-age stuff and press conferences. Hotel was arty and quirky. Hotel staff was correct and friendly. The lobby cafe was good, not […] cheap. You could by almost any food and groceries from Cafe 28 (a deli) around the corner. Lees meer

A guy who has loud voice at front was really helpful and kind. This hotel is kind of weird and interesting. I stayed a dorm but nobody bugged me. Near Union Square, Empire State Building, Flatiron Building, and next to Museum of Sex! Girl's assistants were not friendly but men were usually friendly.
"Gershwin Hotel - review"
Bathrooms very old & tired, they need to be renovated. Never managed to get the shower to the correct temperature for very long. Cockroach on landing, did not make me feel very comfortable. However staff & the Birch cafe next door were great.
"Fun Place!"
I stayed in a bunk room at the Gershwin and it was exactly what I needed for a one night visit. The rooms are small but comfortable and there's a bathroom adjoining each room. I wish now that I'd booked sooner and stayed another night! It's a fun place with a great, contemporary style. Check out upcoming events on their website before you plan your […] trip- they often have fun concerts in the lobby, Lees meer
"Good stay..."
I was in one of the dorm style rooms and it was actually pretty cool. We had an issue with the door keys stopped working, but they worked to get it corrected pretty quickly and offered really great service. The location is nice, very close to everything but not in the middle of all the craziness of Time Sq. The only bad thing is that at midnight they […] close off one of the lounge areas and the only public area open is the space around the front desk. Normally, this would be fine but when it is slow the workers sit in the chairs and there is not much space to sit and use your computer. Wi-fi connection is not available in the rooms so more 24-hour space should be made available since you can only connect to the internet in the public areas. Lees meer
"Gershwin Hotel in midtown manhattan"
The deal I got on my steal!!!!!!!! Extremely affordable and walking distance to all major shopping. I stayed in a private suite and I was extremely satisfied! The staff was very friendly and helpful.
"Met our needs"
A hotel room in Manhattan is sometimes a crap shoot. As someone who was just there for a late night club show, all I needed was a place to crash afterwards instead of a 3 hour drive home. I stayed in a "Twin Superior" room which was relatively small as are many older Manhattan hotel rooms, but met my needs. The "view" was a boarded up brick building, […] but I wasn't there as a tourist so that was fine. The front desk staff was fine. There was a window next to the shower that did not seem to be completely sealed, so there was a little draft. In May it was no big deal, but could be an issue in the winter. The room was clean, though I did slide a little on the hardwood floors. There was ample soap and shampoo. But I couldn't find an ice machine and the soda snack machines were on the 2nd floor, 3 floors down from me. While I propably would choose to stay in this type of room if I was there for an extended vacation of with a significant other, I had no problems with the overall quality and cleanliness with this property Lees meer
"Boutique or what?"
The Gershwin hotel seems to be a boutique hotel and they tried hard to make t funky and special, but when your room has plumbing from 1950 and you get scorching hot or cold water and nothing in between for any rate its unacceptable and its very loud inside noise and street noise two thumbs down sorry
"Dormitory Rooms=Cheap and Clean"
This was my second visit to NYC and I needed something that was cheap. I looked at two other hostels in the local area and found that I like the Gershiwn the best for it's funky feel and cheap "dormitory" rooms. I'm glad I did. It is VERY clean and the amenities exceed those of other regular hotels. There was a "library" on the second floor that gives […] plenty of table room for working visitors and avant-garde reading for those in leisure. There are also two desktop computers for use on the second floor that come equipped with internet, printers, and USB connections. Although this service is not free, you can pay by the dollar as if it were a jukebox. At first, I was not all that comfortable about sharing a room with 9 others, but I was satisfied with the cleanliness and the quality of the hotel. The roommates came in at all different times of the night but were semi-courtous of others sleeping and avoided stealing anyone else's stuff. I would say, IF I was in the area again and needed something cheap, I would do it all over again. One thing I would change would be the excessive tax charge to the room which exceeded the price of the room per night ($33per night+$43tax fee=Doesn't seem to make since). Lees meer
"Its unique art was our initial attraction."
Fantastic central location, good pricing, & a very useful "luggage sitting" service. The room itself was a decent size, quite basic but all amenities covered. Wouldnt hesitate in staying there again :)
"The greshwin"
Good value for the money spent.
"Gershwin Hotel - convenient and reasonable price"
I stayed in a hostel-style room with 3 bunk beds. All the guests were very quiet and considerate, the hotel staff was very friendly. The location is excellent. The atmosphere is artsy and fun. My only complaint is that the room got cold at night. If you travel in the winter, you may want to ask for a couple extra blankets.

"Gershwin Hotel- convenient loation"
We stayed in a superior room at the Gershwin. Rom was very nice, simple and clean. The location was super. just off fifth avenue and a walk away from the empire state building. Reception staff weren't super friendly, but it didn't bother us. Nice cafe/ bar right beside it. a cool place to stay!
"Comfortable but old room in a great location"
I loved my stay in this hotel. The room was quite comfortable and the location was great. However, there are two significant (but manageable) difficulties one should be aware of: First, the plumbing is really out of date. As other reviewers have said, the water in the shower frequently changes temperature. Also, the toilet (in my room) ran constantly […] unless we remembered to jiggle the handle. Annoying, but manageable. Second, the windows are VERY old and consequently allow in quite a bit of sound. We stayed on the 9th floor and still had to deal with noise from vehicles; it didn't keep us awake, but I wouldn't have wanted a room on a lower floor. If you can deal with those issues, I would highly recommend this hotel. It is located within walking distance (10-15 minutes?) to Times Square and is also a close walk to 3 different train lines. There are plenty of restaurants in the area and a great little coffee shop on the first floor. Here's what to expect in a "Superior Twin" room: Two comfortable beds w/ a night stand; alarm clock; closet with a safe and extra pillows in it; small wood table and two wood chairs; window a/c; bathroom w/ tub, sink, mirror, toilet, hairdryer, two sets of towels. In the winter, the place is heated by radiators, and it was quite warm -- at times, it was too warm, but it's difficult to complain about warmth in the winter. If you're still reading, here are three more little things about the hotel: 1. The wood floors are *super* slippery. I almost fell several times. Bring slippers! 2. The Museum of Sex next door is not the least bit troublesome. It is just a store front, and there's nothing risque displayed. 3. The crazy decorations outside the hotel are not nearly as garish as they appear in the photos, and actually end up being helpful when looking for your hotel at 2 o'clock in the morning! Lees meer

"Not for adults used to higher-end hotels!!!"
My boyfriend and I were attending a concert at Madison Square Garden, so this hotel seemed like a great choice. It looked cool and ecclectic from the website. Upon arrival, we were destined for a less than pleasant stay. There was no one to assist with bags. Once we were checked in, we had to wait about 20-30 minutes for our luggage to arrive. There […] was one really small elevator, so going from the 6th floor to the lobby took forever. We started opting for the stairs. Our room, which was designated as no smoking smelled like a smokestack. We reported this, but nothing was done. Upon a long night of hanging out and partying, we came back to the room to settle in for a restful sleep. Sadly, the radiator "ticked" all night and the low-quality bed was hard and kept rolling because it was on casters. Trying to take a shower was also a chore. The bathroom was really small, and you had to step up about 3 feet to get into the tub. If you're looking for a struggling-artist experience, then the Gershwin is for you. Otherwise, if you're looking for a more luxurious experience, seek another hotel. The best part of the Gershwin was its location. It was really close to good shopping and great food. Lees meer
"The Gershwin Hotel E. 27th Street"
We checked into this cheery boutique hotel and immediately stopped in the coffee shop for a snack. What a wonderful, funky, artsy place. It's like staying in someone's apartment bedroom. Don't expect luxury, but a great location, a clean room with a good shower, and modern art on every wall, especially the hallways. Loved it.
"Weekend in NYC"
The hotel reminded me of my freshman year dorm at George Washington University in Washington, DC. Some other reviewers have complained about the water temp and noise but I think the building itself is just old. Yes, the water temperature wasn't that consistent but it was certainly bearable with some adjusting. The shower itself was clean which I thought […] was most important. The sheets were clean. The pillows were a little old, so dust allergies beware. I just put a t-shirt over the pillow cover and did fine. We were there in extremely cold weather and found the room quite warm and comfortable. We asked to be placed on the quieter side of the hotel and the front desk personnel were eager to please and kind. It's nice for a hostel-style place, and at a great location, not to mention affordable. Overall, we had a pleasant stay...and I felt I was backpacking in Europe again. A friendly atmosphere! "Worth it for the price"
Most other hotels are more pricey. Considering the reasonable price here, it's worthwhile. Rooms are decent, I like the fact you can open the window for fresh air, service is good. Kinda crowded and lots of young people. That's not great but still OK overall.
"Gershwin Hotel"
The hotel did not look as nice as on the pictures that were rather deceitful. The lobby was shabby and at 6pm people were hoovering loudly the entrance and doint painting work on the walls. The coridors and rooms were murky and grim. The superior room had nothing superior: there was mold in the bathroom, the heater was not on when we arrived (it was […] beginning of December), the switches were sticky, there were stains on the sheets that were not ironed, there were cigarette holes in the 3 millimetre thick bed cover, the air conditioning was dating from the 70s making an awful noise and creating a draught, the furniture was cheap and old, the wall painting had not been redone for years. I would strongly recommend not to stay in this hotel and am shocked that some hotel managers/owners ask that kind of price for that kind of hotel facilities and services. Lees meer
"Simple And Easy, great location"
The hotel was as expected, basic amenities for the price.Clean and private.I would recommend it for anyone and most of all GREAT LOCATION, empire state is 10 steps and Times square is also walkable. Only thing, they did not have glasses, but they provided plastic ones on demand. They should have a set of drinking glasses in the room/water
"Fair price, reasonable accommodation, not typical."
In all our stay was fine. The hotel is a little funky and not the standard hotel decor, but the location was good and everyone was helpful. The only negative was the shower water temperature was hard to keep constant. But the room was fine and the price was much better than anything similar in the lower/mid town area. I'd stay there again.
"Gershwin- perfect location for small budget"
I would recommend the hotel just because of the fact that it is really cheap for NY prices. The room was a little bit loud and also cold. But in the end it is more than a fair price.

"Gershwin Hotel - great location, unique look."
Very happy with my stay here. Staff were very efficient, helpful and convenient. I had a superior double room and aside from the adjoining door to next room, it was reasonable quiet for NY standards. Room and bathroom were great and well cleaned. No nasty suprises! Loved the interior and location was very convenient - just up from Flatiron building […] and Mad square garden. Lees meer

"The Gershwin Hotel NYC - Great location"
The hotel at 7 E 27th St is a block away from Fifth Ave, the dividing line between east & west sides. Madison Ave, Park Ave, Broadway, Avenue of the Americas, all within short blocks and great for catching public transportation going any direction. I took the bus up to the Met. and Central Park. Washington Square and the Villages a healthy walk of cheap […] cab ride the other way. Jazz club down the street and all night market sandwich shop on the corner. Adjacent to the lobby in the hotel is Birch Coffee. Great food, folks and coffee. Lees meer
"Gershwin Hotel in NYC- poor hotel, great location"
The Gershwin Hotel gives the outward impression of art nouveau but it is a facade for a very old building in dire need of renovation. There is one very slow elevator that unnervingly doesn't always stop level with your floor. The room is tiny with a bathroom that is old, moldy, and lacking basic provisions like hand soap. The shower had mislabeled shower […] heads and the temperature kept changing as, presumably, other people in the building were flushing their toilets. The beds were reasonably comfortable but were for some reason on wheels and on a few occasions I pushed away from the wall and lost my pillows down the back. The location, close to fifth ave and the empire state building, was nice. However, the sex museum on the corner raised some awkward questions from my 11 year old son about the window displays. "Basic Necessities-- Nothing more, Nothing less"
Pros: -Convenient and close to many attractions -Luggage storage for $1 -Fairly quiet room, with the except of doors slamming on your floor -Not excessively clean, but tidy enough to stand Cons: -bathroom enmities are small (i.e. - toilet, sink, door getting into the shower) -pictures of room from website are NOT what you will receive (You will probably […] receive the room quality one below) -There is only one elevator Summary: If you're just looking for a place to rest, this should be fine. Bathroom/Elevator is small; would not reccommend anyone over 250lbs to stay here. It would be very uncomfortable. Lees meer
"The Gershwin, NYC"
The Gershwin was ideal for the young tourist to Manhatten like myself. The hotels itself was very stylish, brilliant bright decor and approachable staff. The light in the room stopped working and it was fixed, before we returned to our room. The room itelf was a good base for NYC sightseeing: clean, comfortable and with good A/C. Nothing fancy. We had […] our own en-suite shower room which was basic but again very clean and with complimentary shower gel. The location perfect: 5 blocks from Empire state, 2 blocks from a subway. The concierge was a bit useless, kinda obvious he worked on commission, I think we overpaid on some bradway tickets. The cafe/weird bar attached I found unfriendly, it seemed attended more my locals than guests. Oh and its a 2 min walk from 230 5th Avenue, an amazing, free entyr rooftop bar with stunning views of the Empire state at night (open from 4pm-4am!!). And a block down is Cafe 28 a perfect place to stop for breakfast or lunch (or whenever its open 24hours!). Lees meer
"Solid budget stay in good location in mid-town"
Good value for the money. Liked the great location in mid-town (close to subway, Times Square, Village, etc). Room was a good size and the air conditioning unit worked very well (essential in July). Basic room that met our needs -- like staying at someone's studio apartment. While the room was very clean with sheets changed daily, the bathroom had hair […] in the sink and tub when we first checked in. The pipes are old, so it took some time to get the water temperature to adjust properly, but the shower itself was good with a large tub and good water pressure. Bed was a full size, which was fine for us as we are petite but larger people may find the bed too small to share. Cool, funky hotel exterior and lobby with luggage storage that came in handy. Would stay again for the right rate. Lees meer
