We stayed with our 2 children. Loved the location, convenient surface lot parking across the street was reasonably priced. We would stay here again. Next time we'll make reservations at the restaurant.

Great hotel, excellent service. Chicago is an overpriced hotel market and this is a 4 star hotel at about 1/2 to 2/3rd the price of chain hotels.

The Public was one of the best hotel experiences that I have had. A friend had planned a birthday trip for me and had originally booked another property. It was quiet, comfortable, incredibly roomy, and the epitome of sleek and modern artistry. The lighting could be set to be soft and romantic or highly functional. The bathroom was so big that you could almost get lost in it! The crisp "whiteness" of it was stunning. In truth, this place is too nice to be "public" and should be limited to being "private"! Nice clean modern hotel. The cheaper room lack comfort. Restaurant and bar is crowded and very noisy, but the food is good. This hotel attracts the younger crowd and is not a quiet place, parties in the rooms go the entire night. Stayed with my wife for business/leisure trip. Newly remodeled room is nice and cozy,,,a little small and kind of stark but cool. The bathroom lighting is a little dim for the ladies. I liked the dimmers however on the room fixtures and the TV gets a nice HD picture. Service is quick as was valet. I would stay again.

I think that this is a hotel for younger people. The beds are very low to the floor and difficult to get out of. The bathtub is difficult to get in to. It is very high. Unfortunatley we were there when there was a very obnoxiuos wedding party. Loud and took over the lobby. Not the hotels fault.

After re construction, the hotel looks brand new and the bar is great. Most importantly, the waitresses at the bar are super pretty and super hot.

Had a wonderful stay at Public - I've been in the hotel when it used to be The Ambassador and I am blown away by the amazing renovation and redesign of the lobby, Pump Room and guest rooms. We used to live around the corner, so it was perfect for our return stay in the city. We have stayed at Ambassador East many times so it was quite shocking to see the complete renovation. Minimalist decor, ultra contemporary, very comfy beds and improved bathroom space. However, the lighting was so dim I could hardly see to put my makeup on. Appreciated the free wi-fi, mini bar and the coffee bar addition downstairs. The Public Hotel is perfectly situated in the heart of Chicago for shopping, trips to the Museums, and great dinning! Dinning in the Pump Room is not to be missed. While the hotel gym is adequate, make sure you take advantage of the near by David Barton Gym. You have free admittance by simply showing your room key.

The lobby, bar and restaurant are very cool; and great, quiet, stately neighborhood; but our room and bathroom were tiny, very little drawer or storage space, plumbing didn't work well and the bolt on the door didn't work. Not a good Hotel for my older parents . The beds were almost on the floor and the tubs were to high for them to use. But for us i thought it was very nice.

The only issue I had was the loud heater in my room that sounded like a construction crew was was running maintenance in my room. It was cold outside so I was glad for the heat but the noise made it hard to sleep.

...It's a great Hotel for its location location location...If you are planning to hit the town and all the bars on Rush street with your friends, then this is the place to be. This is also definitley a great location for the out of towners that want to enjoy all the nightlife and restaurants that are offered in the surrounding neighborhood. Only a block […] from it all! I would defintiely recommend staying here for the price and quality you wil receive for this Hotel at this Location, otherwise feel free to shop at double or triple the price for other luxury Hotels that are more than likely 2 miles further from the heart of Chicago's night life. The Public Hotel is one of the hidden gems of Chicago. My wife and I booked this hotel using Expedia's Unpublished Rates. In the past we have had good luck and bad luck in the hotel that was chosen. This time around I think the Hotel Gods were shining upon us. As you first walk in the lobby there is an air of sophistication that envelops you, from […] the visual appointments to the hotel staff, the hotel gives off this vibe. The Public Hotel being one of the older historical hotels, there was a little trepidation that the rooms would be shoebox size. Upon approaching the room I noticed there wasn't a key slot for the room key. Instead of your traditional key slot the lock is operated via RFID. You just hold the key within close proximity of the sensor and the door unlocks. As my wife and I first walked in the room both of us were taken aback. This couldn't be the room that an Unpublished rate provided, we both thought to ourselves. We hurried inside before we thought anyone might catch the mistake. The room was a suite, with a very chic living area completely styled in all white. Next to the living area was our sleeping quarters equally decked out in all white with LED accent lighting. Upon checkout the next morning I didn't want to leave. I was ready to spontaneously book another night.....than my wallet quietly reminded me to sit down. Lees meer

Stayed here for New Year's Eve and were willing to pay the high dollar ticket for this room. However, we did not know how small the room was going to be! We may stay again though, good service, beautiful interior design. The bar and food are also very pricey.

The hotel was conveniently located close to the John Hancock Center. The rate was reasonable for downtown Chicago, but beware that if you're driving a car, overnight parking is pretty expensive.

Upon checking in, we were immediately upgraded to a corner suite (for free), and the desk staff was even nice enough to loan us an iPhone charger. College dorm style rooms. Tiny bathrooms. The bathroom was so small I couldn't sit straight on the toilet. The shower was smaller than a broom closet. NO CABS!!! It took me 45 minutes to get a cab! Room service was decent, but expensive. I won't be back.
