Hotel Union Square in San Francisco

Het hotel en de service was prima. Enige minpuntje was het (gebrek aan) uitzicht, het volgende gebouw was slecht een paar meter van ons raam.

Second time round in San Francisco. Four years ago in another hotel nearby was not bad but Union Square is better. Staf very friendly (thanks Tony), complimentary wine hour every day, goed coffie in the morning, parking facility with friendly staff and the cost was already known, beds comfortable, room clean, bath also. We could not wish more ( two […] rooms). The best showerhead we have had in our trip from New York to SF by car over 30 days though it uses too much water. If we visit SF again, we will stay at Hotel Union Square. Recommended. Lees meer

The hotel is perfectly located for visitors to see the main attractions of the city. People at the desk are extremely helpful in making reservations (for Alcatraz) and for providing us with directions and suggestions for our travel to Yosemite. This hotel is not very cheap. However it has no hidden costs. For example, parking by the hotel was cheap […] and we were informed about the costs beforehand. At the Hilton hotel, were we stayed a week later, we were unpleasantly surprised by an extremely high parking fee only when we were checking out. Eerlijk... Onze kamer rook erg vochtig en er was schimmel. Het zag er net uit als op de foto. Ze hebben ons zonder problemen een nieuwe kamer gegeven, en de mooiste die ze hadden. De ligging was perfect (aan de cable cars, bushaltes,macy's,...) maar de kamer had ik echt vocht en schimmelvrij verwacht!! Zeker voor de prijs die we betaalden.

We asked for and received a king-size bed. The actual room was very small, barely large enough to accommodate the large bed, a small nightstand, a single chair, and a very small table with a coffee maker on it -- quite different in size and spaciousness from what the website shows. The bed itself had only a mattress -- no box spring -- so it was very low and a bit difficult for us older folks to get in and out of -- again, quite unlike what was pictured in the website. Plusses are the wine reception every afternoon from 5:00 - 6:00. It would have been better had they been scheduled from 5:30 - 6:30 or 6:00 - 7:00 because most people don't go to dinner at 6:00 pm. We stayed in the Queen room. It was a platform frame and THANK GOD, they put foam insulation on the corner bed. While this room had a window, the view was of the other window across from an interior corridor which housed the hotel's HVAC system for the hallways and the main lobby. We were on the fifth floor. The higher the less noisy. The room was no […] larger than 14 by 14 feet. Nice 10-foot ceiling with a art-deco to modern feel. Remember this is an old hotel from the early 1900's so the floors squeak a little. There was one walk-in-type closet with no lighting. Oh, bring hangers because this room only included two or three. There is no dresser for your clothes so be prepared to live out of the suitcase. The bathroom was updated and very adequate. But don't try to sneak a bathroom break in the middle of the night without waking up your partner. The wooden door squeaks to wake the dead! Wonderful time and wonderful concierge staff. People working here were really nice. I was in room that unfortunately had no air conditioning during a time when it happened to be hot in SF. My view was the fire escape and a wall. Didn't feel comfortable opening window since when I looked out there was some guy with no shirt, smoking his cigarette, looking into my room at times (turns out he had […] room next door), so I kept window locked and blinds closed. Also one of the nights, was woken up at 2 am due to banging noise against the door. Looked out to see 2 drunk idiots making out and crashing against the walls. Hotel Union Square is super cool: great furnishings, fantastic location, super nice staff. The complimentary coffee/tea in the morning and wine in the evening is great! My only complaints are that there is no a/c in the bedrooms, which wouldn't be a problem if the windows could have been kept open without massive amounts of noise pollution from the […] street (trolley car bells, loud people, etc). The staff and service was great, however as per the hotel it was good but something's to note. The hotel it self is in an old building, if your a courtyard or Marriott person you may not like the apperiance. The room was a little small but I had room to do everything I needed(aka desk, closet). The hotel staffs are all very nice and friendly. There is this little personal touch that makes you feel welcomed and happy to be there. Location is gd, eateries and shopping are all near by. In fact the thai joint beside is good! The only thing I didn't like was the room size. It is so tiny that I didn't have space for my bag. It's either walk way […] or your bag. I booked this hotel because of its location (other name brand hotels were full). I was very happy with the location. The hotel room was alright...it could be a bit cleaner, I guess. The bed was comfortable enough. For the time that we stayed inside the room, this hotel was okay.

We stayed at this hotel 11/04/13 to 15/04/13 in room 303 facing Powell Street. What a great view looking over the street. Being a inner city hotel yes you can hear some street noise but not enough to be a bother sleeping. The hotel in one block from Union Square and one block from Powell Street Bart. So if you are flying in to San Fran it is a simple […] free air ttrain ride to station and then a $8.25 Bart ride to Powell street. Walk 2 minutes and you are there. All up will take you 30 minutes from the airport. The rooms are clean and the bed was comfy. The hotel decor gives a rustic historical warm feeling. The 5-6pm free wine in the lobby is a great touch. The thing that really impressed my wife and myself was the staff. I wouldn't recommend a room with a view of Powell St unless you want the noise and action all the time. The first room I had was old although very clean. The only complaint I'd have was the parking cost. $50 for overnight but that's to be expected anywhere in that area. Great location for shopping! Cute room with good view.

Awesome location. Very helpful and friendly staff. Only gripe is they don't have a mini fridge inside the rooms. Will be staying here again when I come back to SF. Oh and free wine.....AWESOME :)

The hotel is very conveniently located. Powell St on the lower end near Market, so it is always busy and noisy with the cable cars running. It's old but has been nicely maintained. My only real complaint is the staff who tried to scam us into taking a town car to the airport by telling us repeatedly that it was too busy to get a cab (on a Monday afternoon, […] and not raining). Then they kept telling us the car would be there "in a minute". After about 20 minutes of watching cab after cab drive by, I bailed and found a cab in about 10 seconds. Pretty shady. Lees meer

This hotel was comfy and welcoming. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. The location was great and the hotel itself smelled terrific. I will definitely be coming back soon.

Heaters in the room did not work. They had to bring us an old space heater. Rooms were small and cold. Decor was nice. As for the staff? I asked them to call for a cab and they couldn't even accomplish that. If it wasn't for the taxiagic app I would have flipped! Pretty much paid 280 a night for a 2 star motel! This hotel was located nicely around the city town center area with convenient access to the various shops and food around. nice place . however the condition of the rooms were a little to be concerned with as some things were falling apart in my friends room. other than that, the furnishing was pretty slick and beds were comfortable

PRO: The hotel is in a fantastic location; just can't be beaten. Right in the middle of everything. The price is competitive, we booked through Hotels.com and got a good price. The noise of the cable cars is commonly mentioned, we had a room to the back of the hotel so it was rather quiet (the view wasn't much though), but since we only slept at the […] hotel, it was OK for our needs. // CONS: First and foremost, the window could not be opened in our hotel room and the AC was very noisy and old. And the room sort of was dusty and had murky air since you couldn't let fresh air in. We got used to it after a while, but it sort of was unpleasant at first. Second, the bathroom door didn't shut properly as the frame or door moved over time; can't be done anything about it, just a sign of an old building structure. // FAZIT: Good price, great location, normal service with some drawbacks to accept. location is good, and felt quite safe walking back to the hotel in the evening. The staff was kind and helpful, but I was disappointed with the general conditions and cleanliness of my room. First of all I asked for a room with a window: the window was there but blocked. The bathroom floor was completely uneven, as well as the carpet in the room. At […] night the room was way too hot, unless you turned the noisy a/c on and not being able to open the window made it a bit stuffy. Bed sheets and towels were not the cleanest and the best either (several stains on the towels, and the bed sheet only covered 3/4 of the bed, legs and feet were directly on the mattress!). The bathroom was not very clean when we arrived, nor was the room's floor. I feel that we paid too much for what we got: they should def improve cleanliness, room's conditions (windows, furniture, carpet) or at least make up with something else (e.g. breakfast included). Also, the cleaning staff was knocking on the door at 9am even when there was the "do not disturb" sign on the door...this last is not a major issue for me, but people on holiday might want to sleep a bit longer! :) Lees meer

The last night of my stay the hotel's hot water supply was broken and they couldn't fix it. I was showering in cold water in that cold winter night :( I won't recommend this hotel to anyone.
