Hallmark Hotel Carlisle in Carlisle

located right next to Carlisle Station this was a great one night break for a 70th birthday. Room and bed were in good order. Our dinner was top class and breakfast was decent too. Handy both for city centre shopping and for the bus route AD122 which takes you along Hadrians Wall this has both location and service to commend it.

Reception staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming. Reception area including the bar is inviting and modern, though some areas of the hotel need updating! Breakfast was nice, albeit a bit cold when it got to our room...probably due to no plate covers. Our bathroom was dated and a bit creepy I thought. Not somewhere you'd want to take a relaxing soak. […] It did us fine for our purposes, but the old windows didn't close properly and despite the secondary glazing we could still hear noise from the pubs in the lane underneath and the late night revellers making their way to the taxi rank through it. It hasn't deterred me from booking it again, as decent hotels in Carlisle are few and far between, but I wouldn't rave about it.. Lees meer

The price was right and the location ideal for the city centre. Although lots of business people there I would stay for leisure as well.

Really nice hotel, had been given a fresh lick of paint so smelt all clean. It is right next to the station so worth asking for a quiet room...Only problem.. The bathroom is Tiny,, you could do over possible bathroom function whilst sitting on the loo!!!!

Staff was very friendly and helpful. The BEST part of my stay was the dinners and breakfasts. I was amazed at the quality and creativity of the food, amazing. Room was very nice however little things like wine glasses that were dirty and had lipstick staines on them, hair on the bath tiles and the room had obviously had a water leak at some point in the past as there were marks all over the ceiling and wall. Lovely hotel central to the shops, pubs and train station. Ideal for a short stay, staff very pleasant, lovely food. Our room was small but very nice, other people we went with had much larger rooms. Will definitely use this hotel on our next visit to Carlisle.

A clean and tidy hotel in central Carlsle. Staff were friendly and efficient. Brakfast was plentiful, although suffered as all Hot Buffet Breakfasts in all hotels do that Hot plates do not keep piping hot. Room was very comfortable,tidy and clean. The room was very comfortable and clean. It was a little noisy as the room faced a busy town square, but the service was good and the amenities were fine. The breakfast was good and the staff very pleasant.

Although in general the room was nice, there were boxed off hot water pipes around the out side of it which gave off quite a bit of heat despite the radiator being turned off. This meant the room was generally uncomfortably hot all of the time, we had to sleep on top of the covers to get a good nights sleep and though we didn't spend a huge amount of […] time in the room when we were we had to strip off to stay comfortable. There was no air-con and the windows wouldn't open so there was nothing we could do to cool it down. Additionally, late on saturday night we were kept up late until 1am because of very load music being played in the bar behind the hotel, this wasn't an issue on the Friday night. Perfect location in centre of Carlisle. Parking was a problem. Cost us £6 for one overnight in railway car park. Rooms small but clean. Breakfast was rather tepid.

Nice hotel, good price, good breakfast included. The room we were in was very near the night life so was quite noisy till about 3am from the bar on the backs of the hotel.

Disappointed that what was on initial caption was not the place u stay- it gives false impression. The staff didn't explain about the parking but said cost 4 gbp in rail park as get discount- maybe but need to leave before 7 am for that- do be aware u could be up for extra 9 gbp.

Decent hotel in excellent location for exploring Carlisle, easy walk to the high street. Parking was well behind the hotel and a bit of a walk with cases, pity they have no attached parking or underground parking. That said, we were allowed to leave car in park after we checked out to give us time to visit the castle, at the end of the high street. […] I found the hotel at the last minute so was able to get King size room at reduced price. The hotel was more than I expected at a very reasonable rate, which unusually included breakfast. I do wish I hadnt left my Samsung phone charger there though, room 107 if anyones reading this from the hotel.

Unbelievably close to Carlisle Train Station. The service of the hotel staff was just wonderful - having a lucky dip for a little something in the hotel was such a nice touch. We had a corner room where we had an amazing view of the city's Citadel & surrounding areas. The room was very comfortable - the shower however was a little tricky to work. Not that enjoyable to say the least. Very dated hotel next to train depot (no train noise problem) and center of town. At check in, they said I had no reservation. When I produced my printed confirmation, it took them about 20 minutes to search their records. Then they found that I had two different reservations--one double bed room and one twin bed […] room. I only booked one--don't know where they got two. Then they didn't have the room ready altho it was well into check in window. They didn't have hotel parking for me and I had to park in train parking lot (they would only reimburse me for about 25% of the cost), then I found that they did have a slot in the hotel lot and moved my car there. Took me over 30 minutes to get back to lobby, then my wife said they had given us an upgrade to an exec room due to reservation confusion. Room opened onto street on second floor. Pretty good room except that all street noise came through windows and there were drunks screaming in the st until 4 am. Food and service OK otherwise, but prices were a little high, so this was not a value deal overall for this rather dated hotel. Lees meer

When we first arrived at Hallmark Hotel with a reservation for a double room they gave us a room with a terrible smell of mould and moist inside. We complained but the hotel was fully booked because of easter so we either had to go somewhere else or sleep two in one of the bigger single rooms. The hotel was great overall. Check in was great, friendly and efficient. Extremely good location if traveling to Carlisle by train. A comfortable and well appointed room but stuffy stuffy. A small window that barely opened and no AC.. My room was on the back of hotel so was noisy from a pub or club nearby till midnight. GREAT dinner, one of the best […] steaks I have had. Fair value for money overall ..... BUT ... I inquired the next morning about check out and was advised it was 11am (fair enough). I stated I was holding a business lunch for four in their very nice restaurant, meeting at 11.30am (then departing for London) so could I check out at 11.30am. I was told it would cost Stg10. I said for 30 mins and was advised it was for one hour. I said i only needed it for 30 minutes but was flatly refused. I felt like taking my business lunch to a nearby restaurant, they would have lost Stg70. I spend approx 160 nights a year in hotels, the small mindedness of this hotel means "would I go back .... My 15 year old son is train mad and has always wanted to visit Carlise station as it is busy with passengers trains and goods trains of all sorts. So for a half term treat we booked train tickets and hotel and set off. Everything was great the journey was enjoyable and we got a very warm welcome at the hotel, a really comftable room well set out with […] lovely decor. The best thing was it was so close to the station so we could spend as much time as possible watching trains arrive and leave (not as boring as it sounds) when you have an expert to guide you through the sorts of engines. We even got to see the Royal Train. I stayed in a single room (room no. 112) and it was great. Very large for a single & no noise from the club or train station that other reviewers mention. The room was pleasantly warm throughout my stay but after a shower it felt uncomfortably warm, especially when I was using the hairdryer. If you wanted something close to the railway then nothing could be better - but our room was worn and on a hot night the room was stuffy with no air and windows that did not open.

This hotel appears to be trying to save money, ONE receptionist on at most times, had to wait nealry 20 minutes on two occasions for them to answer the phone. One night NO TOILET TISSUE in the bathroom, took 45 minutes to get housekeeping to deliver one. On check out recetionist was rude after she asked me to pay AGAIN. If you are traveling by train, this is the closest hotel to the station. Checkin was friendly and helpful, wifi was accessible, and the breakfast was really good. We would definitely stay at the Hallmark again when traveling through Carlisle, which is a wonderful small city near both Hadrian's Wall and the Lake District. From this hotel, you can walk to car rentals, to the castle, the art museum, downtown, restaurants, pubs, everything you need except the launderette which would be about half an hour walk (but 5 minutes if you have a car).
