A good place to stay. The breakfast is allright, but not special. Good value for money. You need a car for going to the city centre

Close to downtown and many attractions.

Our stay wasn't as great as we thought it would be. One of our rooms did not have electricity in 1/2 of the room. The windows on the 1st floor did not have window screens but did have double windows, however the 2nd part of the window was partically open which made us feel unsafe. Complimentary breakfast didn't have many selections. The pool had no […] water and neither did the hot tub. Since we were on a business trip, we had LOTS of boxes to unload into the room that could not stay in our vehicles and we were two ladies unloading them and not once did we get someone working to offer to help us out. One of the restrooms had some molding on the wall of the commode that looked like it was cleaned but not properly or maybe it was stained that way already. The toilet paper was not filled on the toilet paper holder and was just on the commode. Over all it was a bad experience and will not stay there again. Lees meer

Worse hotel stay ever.

It was fine until I saw roaches in the bathroom. That MUST be fixed!!!!!!!!

You get what you pay for with this hotel- nothing special. This hotel is fine for the price/ location. I might stay here again becuase it's cheap and close to downtown. ... but not much to get a bite to eat nearby that you can walk to other than a gas station.. for the ten hours i was there (from 8 pm until i checked out at 6 am to go to the airport) it was fine.

I must say I was really disapointed in this motel. We were on a one night stay at varous motels across the US and this place by far was the worst. Very very run down. The room needed an update and overhaul. I would never stay at another Howard Johnsons. they seem to be way past their time, Unlike, other chains we stayed at that was a pleasure to stay. […] And we stayed at five others that were so much cleaner and not falling apart as this one was. Brass Tax: + Proximity to Austin airport. - Women outside my room fighting from 3am to 5am. Called front desk AND police about it. - Non smoking room literally smelled like someone just smoked in it. - Broken air conditioner. Was nice outside, not that much inconvenient. - The room looked like the hotel rented by the hour. Seriously I did not touch […] the walls. Oddly the shower was nice IMHO. Overall? Excellent. Staff was friendly. Rooms were clean and quiet. $10 cab ride downtown but a 40 minute wait on the weekends. Internet was slow.

This room was booked for a week , for our out ot town employee. He had to change rooms three times, each time the room was dirty the the last room. The last room had mud in the shower and blood on the bed spread. He checked out the next morning. Will never, never have our employees stay at a Howard Johnson every again. Hotel is very disgusting

we got room 310 & 312; and both are smoking rooms but the bad smell in there didn't seem like smoke. We managed to change 312 to 308 but had to continue having room 310 because they don't hv any other rooms to move us to. The 310 gave us such bad bites that every bite on our backs fingers, legs and hands got swollen, itchy and turned red and even had […] pus. almost half of my back was bitten by the bugs in the room , they got really swollen & itchy. It's a week later now, & the redness & itch has not gone down though the swell did decrease. We stayed a night, and only 1 room out of the 2 gave the problem, but what a big problem that was! The front desk was very rude. She was talking on the hotel phone as her own personal use. She would get frustrated anytime we asked her a question because that meant she had to stop talking to whoever she was talking to over the phone. The walls inside the room were all cracked. Left the next day with some our our legs. May not have been the hotel, but it isn't in the best of conditions in terms of cleanliness. You get what you pay for.

I stayed at the Howard Johnson Inn while attending a conference in Austin. The conference hotel was outside my budget. The Howard Johnson was a very affordable alternative. The room and quality of service were good; the price was excellent.

Condition of the hotel isn't that great but the service was awesome!

This hotel is fine for the price. I read other reviews and I don't agree. The rooms are clean. The front desk staff is very friendly and accommodating, but the hotel is old. I wasn't expecting the Ritz Carlton. I think it is a fine hotel for the bargain price. This is my big complaint, however, the smokers and non-smokers are intermingled in the same […] area. I have never seen a hotel do that before. Everytime I opened the door to my room I was hit with the stench of foul smelling cigarette smoke. Miraculously, my room wasn't bad, but I was surrounded by smokers everywhere I turned. Why would management do such a thing? It makes no sense to me. We were looking for a cheap room for two nights and it worked for us but it's not at all what I'd call "nice". We only went back to the room to sleep so it was fine. We'd originally been told they had a rollaway bed/cot that they would put in the room so it could sleep 3 but they said it wasn't possible when we arrived.

The room was nasty and I reported this to the night manager on duty. I did ask for the room to be cleaned the next day since is was 23:15 when I checked in. I also requested for fresh linen to be place on the bed since it was a non smoking room and the bed spread and blanket both had cigarette burns on them. They did clean the room that next morning […] but did not replace the linen per my request. Since I could not get my money back if I checked out early to stay some place else, stayed the additional 2 nights but, I will not stay there again, and would not recommend this hotel to anyone else. When I need a motel, whether for business or pleasure, all I want is a safe, clean, reasonably priced room because staying at the motel is not my primary goal. It is a compliment to my business or pleasure. This stay was on a very low budget so we brought our own food and were extremely pleased with the complimentary breakfast, especially the orange […] juice and bagles. I recommend the Howard Johnson Inn Motel in Austin for good location, prompt service and excellent value in these tight times or anytime. Mama Joy Lees meer

We stayed at this hotel for the ACL festival. It was close enough and a decent, right off the highway, location. The hotel itself is very old and kind of gross. Do NOT believe the website when it says "newly remodeled". The tiny bathroom had mildew all over the ceiling, the ironing board (which hangs in the tiny bathroom) had mildew on the bottom of […] it, there was no iron, the comforter had lipstick marks on it, and there were burn holes in the comforter and the blankets. We really just needed a place to sleep and shower, and since we're not super picky, it worked. If you are easily grossed out or only like newer hotels, do NOT stay here. The maids were very friendly but the front desk staff was kind of rude. We asked for another towel set because ours hadn't been replaced even though we took down our "do not disturb" sign and they counted EACH towel to make sure we didn't get an extra washcloth. We're not talking nice towels either, I'm pretty sure we could buy better ones at Big Lots. The next day they took our dirty towels, but didn't give us any more (we had NO towels) and when we called the front desk they made us come down and wanted to verify we weren't given any towels that morning. The beds are pretty hard and horrible. Basically, it worked for what we needed it for, but it might not work for you. Lees meer

The hotel manager was not very nice. I asked for a special exception to get a room early before 3pm on a business trip which I was scheduled for a meeting at the noon time. The hotel manager refused to allow me to get a room and said all rooms are full. That does not make sense because if you made a reservation and the rooms are full. That is impossible. […] The hotel manager canceled the room without my permission to make some negoitation or agreement. Not a very good business. The pros: Staff was nice enough, the motel is a drive-able distance to most places, but location is too shady to walk anywhere. The TV worked and surprisingly there was a pretty decent shower head. The cons: Our A/C was broken, inside and out. The cover fell off the wall and when the unit decided to run, it sounded like a dying helicopter rotor. The […] window had 3 parts: an interior glass pane which was bolted down to remain 3 inches open (i.e. you can't close it), an exterior glass pane that did not lock, and a screen. In between the screen and exterior window we found a half-smoked blunt. This was a bit disconcerting since we were on the first floor. Additionally, the hairdryer didn't work, the sink didn't drain, carpet and bedspread were stained and the ceiling was peeling off in multiple places. Moral: You get what you pay for. Needless to say, I would not return even if they gave me a free stay. Lees meer

I will never return...the rooms,customer service & breakfast suck!!!

I will never stay here again. You cannot get extra towels if you ask for them. The coffee at the breakfast bar is undrinkable. Wall paper was peeling off the wall in the room. Beds were uncomfortable. Completely dissatisified with this hotel.

WORST WORST WORST HOTEL. Do NOT stay here, ever.

Carpets had strong smell. Toilet was moving upon seating. No Fridge or Microwave in room.

The hotel is right off the exit and people are nice. The room had a smell when you enter and its bad until you get used to it. It smells bad only when you enter from outside. 5 minutes into the room you dont get it anymore. Breakfast was ok. The bathroom was very small and i also saw a cockroach in it.

I travel to Austin often. I've stayed in every level of hotel in the city, and frequently stay in lower-end hotels. This hotel was in the worst physical condition of any hotel that I've stayed in. Dirty floors, broken/missing bathroom tiles, water-damaged ceiling, and more. It's a shame, because it's in a good location in terms of getting around the […] city, and Shay at the front desk was absolutely top-notch. I won't be returning, unless they do extensive renovations. gross, dirty - will never every stay here again!

buyer beware: on top of the fact that the condition of this hotel is absolutely disgusting, there is also a pet fee. i took a gamble on this hotel for the price since hotels.com mentioned no pet fee, alas, there was - $25 at check-in. unfortunately i can't add images to this review, because i took some gems of our room... the ceiling was falling down, […] there was significant water damage in the bathroom as well as 2 places where the wall appeared to have been kicked or punched in. the 6-foot long stain on the carpet suggested a body had been dragged from one side of the room to the other. this place should be condemned. Our stay was very nice, except for the Towel Brigade. The hotel posted a sign stating that they counted towels. I can understand that because I'm sure many people take them home. The one big problem with this at this hotel was that the towels were a disgrace. They were clean, but they were full of holes and very small. People very nice, clean room, although halls smell like cigarrette, I got a room in the smoking section. They may need to give more variation in breakfast choices. Affordable.

This was for sure just a place to sleep. The smell was so bad but interestingly worse in the halls. The bathroom was missing tiles, and the walls and ceiling in/around tub were falling apart.The coffee maker was dirty. There was a big cobweb in the corner, on the floor, attached to the lamp. The room did not have the microwave and fridge like mentioned. […] Also, most of the plugs did not work. The hair dryer was conected to the wall so I could not move it to another plug, therfore no hair dryer. There were plenty of sketchy people in and around the place. Did not use the pool, it is directly next to the highway and service road. The bed was like sleeping on springs. I was there for 4 nights and never even heard a vaccum cleaner. There was a small piece of trash that stayed in the same place on the floor in the hall the entire time we were there. I deliberately did not move it just to see if it would ever be cleaned. The staff was friendly and the location was perfect for going to the convention center. The fitness room smelled of cigarettes. Lees meer

I would not reccommend to any of my friends to stay here. I will pay more money to stay elsewhere.

Nice quiet place to stay conveniently located and economically priced. Recommended for the budget constrained consumer.

Great hotel for pets! I loved that my dog wad allowed everywhere . It was close by the expressways, and great location!
