Having lived in NY, we're picky about what we do and where we stay. Having noticed the attractive lobby of the San Carlos on a previous visit, we chose the hotel because it had a small suite. My husband and I brought our teenage son so the pullout sofa in the sitting area was a perfect spot for him. The king size bed was very comfy and he said the pullout […] was too. The suite comes with a kitchenette---mini fridge, sink, dishes, and microwave. The room included continental breakfast. The lobby, hallways, breakfast room, and our rooms were beautifully maintained. In fact, we had a bit of a problem with the bathtub. On our way out in the morning we mentioned it to the front desk; in the afternoon when we looked, the repair had been made. For New York, the room was pretty quiet. The staff was helpful and very friendly. The location is great, only a block from the Lex. Ave. subway line (local) and not far from Grand Central. It's easy to get a cab on Lex. Ave. Fifth Ave. is just a short hike. The nearby area has many eating and snacking spots. The theater district is a bit of a walk, or a short cab ride. If you drive in, there is an adjacent parking lot with a discount. We would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for an excellent hotel at fair (but not cheap) price. The reveiws were right on target... friendly helpful staff at this lovely boutique hotel with spotless rooms and superior linens. The free continental breakfast was perfect. OJ was fresh squeezed and the self service coffee station included a carafe of steamed milk. Would stay there again!

Hotel was very clean, updated, comfortable and conveniently located. The people who greeted us at the front desk were very friendly, efficient, and helpful. A complimentary continental breakfast was served in the morning as a nice touch. I will definitely use this hotel again upon returning to New York City.

The one draw back is that they do not valet park but given that there is parking right next door is no a big deal. I was surprised. I had never heard of this hotel. Everything is spanking new. Good show!! The continental breakfast is basic but is all we needed, some toast and bagels cream cheese etc. enough and it is complementary

Great neighborhood is the best feature of the San Carlos. That said, I found the beds incredibly uncomfortable and the staff not terribly friendly (they were competent but did not go out of their way to be friendly - since I was not there to make friends, this was not a terribly important issue). The printer in the biz center was inoperable and there […] was no one to help out. Housekeeping staff was prompt, courteous and helpful. I would stay there again but only if other hotels comparably priced in the same neighborhood are unavailable. Not bad but no my first choice. Lees meer

Wild party kept everyone awake unil 5:30am. Mgr said there was nothing they could do. Didn't even offer any compensation a I had 3 rooms for 4 nights. If that's how they treat guest they won't get my business again. P.s. the breakfast wows a joke

A friendly and comfortable hotel with the added bonus of a complimentary breakfast every morning (most unusual in NY hotels). Its decor is not the height of fashion and its lobby is not large but its midtown location cannot be faulted (5th avenue is 5 mins away, as is Grand Central station and the R0ckefeller Centre) and there are 2 subway stops close […] by. This hotel was clean the staff was helpful and pleasant. The location was just minutes from everything we came for. Parking was reasonable. I was happy with the size of the room, roomy with high ceilings. It was very comfortable for NY standards. The water pressure in the shower was strong.. great. The soaps were brand name. The kids (two kids under […] 7) slept on the pull-out sofa which was fine for small children. The noise level was low. We had no sleep interuptions from outside and was never disturbed by other guests/rooms. The reason this did not get a 5 star is because we ordered a King Suite and recieved a Queen Suite. I didn't realize technically they couldn't guarantee a king. Why they cannot guarantee a king is puzzeling I think they should. The continental breakfast was ok. Not much to choose from. Expect more of an a.m. snack. The building is older for the wear. But clean. Overall very good. If you have a small family I recommend their suite as a comfortable and affordable option compared to other Hotels in the area. Lees meer

We stayed at the San Carlos the week of Thanksgiving and were very impressed with this hotel and its services. The front desk staff were very helpful and friendly. When we arrived at noon, we were able to get our room right away and when we left, we were given a late checkout time. The room was very clean and comfortable, as well as being quite spacious. […] We felt relaxed here and slept very well...it was so quiet. The hotel was beautiful and super clean. We had four of us in a 1 BR w/2 queens. There was a lovely and comfortable sitting area and kitchenette. Perfect for us to come back to after a long day or exploring to get ready for the eve. Staff was awesome! Super friendly and accommodating. They were a great resource for subway/walking info and various recommendations. […] Definitely a class operation without any snobbery or impatience for our ignorance as first time visitors. This hotel is well located, clean with large rooms including the bathroom. It was also relatively well priced. The service is terrible and the hotel workers are rude. There is not enough workers so the same person is helping people get their luggage to and from their rooms, onto the street, hailing cabs, and putting and retrieving bags from the storage. […] All while the lazy desk staff ignore the needs of the guests. Located in an upscale neighborhood with so much within walking distance: Radio City Music Hall, Rockefeller Center, 42nd street /Broadway, theaters and quality food adventures. When more is needed, taxi's and the subway are outside the front door. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The San Carlos has an international flavor which we found very exciting. […] When I asked to buy a stamp for a postcard, the concierge said I could buy one if I asked in another language, and then taught me a phrase or two! We enjoyed the San Carlos. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The location is excellent. The rooms are clean and well maintained. Breakfast is pretty basic and often inviloves waiting in line for a table.

Had a suite with queen bed and pull out. Loved the location and linens. Extremely helpful staff. Lovely breakfast provided. Crowded. Need to get up earlier. Would definitely return.

We looked at a lot of reviews before choosing this hotel and we were not disappointed. Exceptionally friendly staff, immaculately clean rooms (and good size for NYC) and very well designed and maintained. I like this part of NY - only three blocks from Rockefeller Centre/5th Avenue but less chaotic than Times Square (which we could still walk to easily). […] Just right for us with two young children. Free breakfast was welcome - simple but good quality and enough for kids. Breakfast room a bit crowded but we always got a table. We would definitely go back when we're in NYC and I would happily use it for my next business trip. I've stayed in a lot of hotels in NYC over the years and this is a real find. Lees meer

One of my main searches was for a hotel that had 2 queen sized beds for the 4 of us to share. Found it ! The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The hotel was clean and neat. Our room was quite spacious. We had an in room safe; coffee maker, fridge and microwave, great features, even real non-plastic dinnerware. Stay away from the servi-bar. […] It is touch sensitive. The continental breakfast was included in the price. This is a great , considering the cost of everything in the city. There is a diner across the street and a Mexican restaurant on the corner. Easy walk to Fifth Ave, St Patricks, Rockafeller Center and of course, my granddaughters favorite spot, The American Girl Doll Store.........where I might add we had a very enjoyable dinner. Did we have a wonderful time - Yes. Would we stay there again - Yes. Would we recommend it to others - Yes. Lees meer

Great hotel. Made to feel welcome and nothing too much trouble. Our thanks go to all the staff for making our holiday one to remember. The suite was very spacious and well equipped. Complimentary wi fi was an added bonus for our daughter and the hotel breakfast was very good. We loved New York and the hotel.

The Staff at the San Carlos is very pleasant to deal with. Our rooms are nice, clean and the beds are just perfect - not too soft, not too hard. The San Carlos is within walking distance to the Empire State building, the Rockefeller Center, 5th Avenue and even the Central Park. It is right around corner from the Waldorf Astoria which looks much busier […] and certainly more expensive. On the day we checked out, we left our bags with the Bellman so we could spend more time in the city. We will return to the San Carlos soon. Lees meer

Firstly I must say the service here is very, very good, however it’s the tangibles that let this place down. Dated rooms, huge, loud air conditioning unit in the room. Excellent quality and value in this part of town. Nothing fancy just well kept and clean with good sized rooms. Te absence of view and an on-site restaurant make this a functional business hotel. Lots of restaurants around and a nice breakfast place across the street fit in well.

All perfect but it felt strange to have plastic cutlery and tablewares for breakfast. It would never have 4* in Europe just for that. Very friendly and efficient staff.

Second visit to this hotel, still really like it. Free continental breakfast and WiFi are a big bonus. Excellent beds, no plumbing noises from other rooms. Hard to beat I would think.

We celebrated my mom's birthday in NYC. It was a big one to celebrate!! This city has it all. The San Carlos Hotel is a dream. A sophisticated, chic hotel in New York City. Who could ask for more? The hotel was decorated beautifully at Christmas as we noticed upon check-in. The rooms have plush bedding, aveda products & chic decor. This hotel is in […] a centralized location 4 blocks off 5th. So, it's easy to walk to. Our room was ready when we checked in around 9am, to my surprise. Also, when we checked-in the compliementary breakfast was still open, another surprise. They have a nice selection of hot teas, coffee, oj, yogurt, cottage cheese, danishes and bagels. Just enough to tide you over to lunch. We helped ourselves and hit the streets of NYC. We visited Little Italy, ate lunch & enjoyed cannoli's at La Bella Ferrara on Mulberry, Chinatown, Soho, 5th Avenue, Central Park and Times Square. We window shopped and espeically enjoyed Saks and Bergdorf's. We walked through the lobbies of The Waldorf, The Plaza, The Roosevelt and Trump Tower. There are good restaurants in the area; especially The National at 50th & Lexington. We also found a good deli on Madison (Deli on Madison, I think) and a burger joint off 5th, The Prime Burger on 51st. It was a popular spot. There is a rooftop bar at The Kimberly Hotel just across the street. We weren't able to get in because there was an event that night. Overall, a perfect trip..can't wait to go back!! Lees meer

A stone's throw from the Waldorf and Saks Fifth Avenue, elegant, quiet, large, beautiful room with very comfortable beds. They even include continental breakfast. We were pleased by price and location. Try the restaurant 'Mint' next to the hotel for fabulous Indian food. I will make this hotel my New York place to stay.

Have stayed at many hotels in NYC and this hotel was my favorite so far! Big room, comfy beds, fast elevators, early check in, free breakfast (little weak. but free), and the hotel staff didn't constantly hound us. Also great location! Would definetly recommend!
