Excellent hotel for the price in the Midtown. The only complain is the breakfast. They are selling the rooms with "breakfast included" in the price (or was it a promotion). Well this breakfast is just a tray of bagels with jam. They don't offer even dry serial.

Previous reviewers who commented on the better than average room size must have had better luck than I had. First the front desk placed me in a little room right next to the elevator (bed on the same wall as the tiny elevator lobby. When I asked for a different room I got a tiny room facing a brick wall. I will not be staying here again.

very reasonably priced for Christmas considering the very large size of our suite, that breakfast was included and that is a short walk to subway, Rockefeller centre and other attractions - all staff were friendly and helpful and could not fault any part of our stay - will definitely be back next time we holiday in New York

Nice clean hotel. Comfortable room and beds. Dishes and utensils a nice touch to go with microwave and fridge. Plenty of space for a family of 4. Staff was very friendly. The validated parking price of $30/night is a bargain in NYC. Not to far to good shopping spots although a bit of a hike if you're heading to Times Square. I'd definitely stay there […] again. Very nice hotel, reasonably priced for New Year's Eve. Free breakfast was satisfactory. Good location, close to subway. Room had a separate frig for customer use and a microwave which we couldn't get at the Marriott on Times Square.

We stayed at the San Carlos on NYE and had a great experience. We decided to stay an extra night. The staff was great, very pleasant and helpful. Room was clean, bed was comphy. Kids slept on pull out and said it was very comfortable. The front desk staff was polite and gracious to my kids. Location is great. Beautiful hotel and rooms. Clean. Seems like mostly foreigners there, which was nice. Only complaint was noise from adjoining room at night and noise of children running from 6 am through 8 am in the room above. Could be the acoustics are a problem.

We were pleasantly surprised at the size of our room. Large by NYC standards. Room was clean and VERY comfortable. Bathroom was not large but clean and met our needs. Staff was exceptional in finding us last minute dinner reservations.

Hotel was very very good. High quality finish throughout, very comfortable bed, lovely breakfast. Great location. Hotel is a few minutes walk from Rockefeller center and 5th avenue. The subway is right on your door. Only slight critique would be the night life tends to close around 11pm in the immediate area. Very minor issue as we were not in New York […] to get drunk. Breakfast was basic but perfectly acceptable, lovely fresh continental breakfast, decent coffee, fruit juices, yoghurts. You can eat as much as you like and grab a coffee before you head into New York. The door staff were great, they found us a taxi at rush hour in the rain which in NYC isn't the easiest thing to do. The only problem we had was that our safe was not working when we arrived, (battery was duff) but this was fixed within 20 mins. Overall, no complaints, would definitely return again. Lees meer

East of Park Avenue, this hotel saved me approximately $1k on a three night stay in one bedroom suite when compared to several hotels within two blocks. Clean and Comfortable. I look forward to returning. Queen bed in bedroom and sleeper sofa would allow couple with two teenagers to share space in comfort. First time in NYC and found this location to be excellent. Few blocks from Grand Central Station and an easy walk with pull luggage. Easy walking to many sights and subway nearby. I am a runner and it was an easy .8 mile warm up run to Central Park. Friendly staff. Comfy beds. Nicely maintained decor.Would stay again.

My first time in NY. Took the family. This hotel is in a great location. (Steps from Madison and Park Ave in one direction, Tons of dining on 2nd in the other direction) Staff was unbelievably FRIENDLY! I guess I was expecting rude going to NY for the first time. Can't beat free OJ, coffee, hot chocolate and pastries/muffins/yogurt in the morning in a city like this where everything is a premium. Very kind of this hotel to offer that. Rooms were not modern, but they were comfortable and the housekeeping staff were soooo nice!. Very friendly to me and my children. Room was spacious and windows opened to let in fresh fall air! The room was clean and the staff friendly and very supportive. Since we were in NYC when it was close to 90 degress F... the aircondition was very important. It worked but sounded quite much but maybe all airconditions do?

The San Carlos was a great location for us! We could walk to Central Park, Rockefeller Center, Times Square, and shopping on 5th Avenue. Everyone there was extremely friendly and helpful. Our room was very comfortable and relaxing after a busy day of seeing Manhattan. We will stay there again!

Wonderful staff, I was greeted with smiles and hello every time I saw any staff, a lovely hotel for visiting New York. Great location! We walked to the United Nations, Time Square, Rockefeller Plaza, and even the Nintendo Museum. The kitchenette with dishes was great for quick snacks. Outstanding hotel. The service and upkeep are outstanding. My wife and two daughters stayed in a double queen room and were very pleased. Convenient location on upper east side; easy to get around. This was a good room for the money - a mini-suite for the price of a regular room, in a very good location. But many things were also a bit off - noisy air conditioner never got fixed as promised, one phone not working, towels and other supplies often not fully replaced without having to ask, small bed. The San Carlos Hotel has it all and at a reasonable price. When we pulled up in front of the hotel, the doorman greeted us, took our luggage and guided us into the lobby all with warmth. Our […] room and bathroom were very roomy--large (!), especially for NYC. The room and bathroom were spotless, and I am very picky. The amenities included Avena bath supplies, fluffy bathrobes and towels, a pants press as well as ironing board and iron, i-Pod dock, large desk, free wi-fi, comfortable beds and pillows and nightly chocolates and turn down service. The hotel offers a free continental breakfast of all kinds of muffins, breads, danish; cereal; juice; coffee & tea; fruit; yogurt and cottage cheese. It was all fresh and continually stocked. The room was large enough that there wasn't a problem with getting a table. The staff held our suitcase until we could pick it up later in the day. The hotel is in a fantastic location, just behind the Waldorf Astoria and you can easily reach the 5th avenue and Times Square by foot. The city tour buses stop right in front of the Waldorf so we could get one tour and back easily. I travelled with 2 kids and my husband and we were all delighted by how kind and welcoming the hotel staff was. They speak […] perfect Spanish which is a plus as I'm from Spain. For our way back to the airport they provided us with a limousine service (yes, the long white rapper kind of) for a very reasonable price. Kids were amazed with it! The room was pretty big with 2 queen beds, microwave, fridge, coffee/tea maker and bathroom with bath and not only shower (handy when you travel with kids). My 80 year old mother, 16 year old daughter and myself stayed at the San Carlos from Sat. to Sunday. Hotel is in wonderful location. Room was spotless...beds so comfortable. The continental breaksfast was really nice. Just enough to get you going in the morning. Clean, clean, clean!

Only problem we encountered was the chaotic dining room during the free breakfast service. Guests were queuing for tables in a very small space, we gave it a miss on the second morning.

We have stayed here several times, now, and will return again and again. The hotel is well cared for, staff pleasant, rooms clean and very big for New York, beds comfortable and location is great. Walking distance to shopping, dining and theater.
