Wat een prettig welkom in het Alba Hotel. Op de parkeerplaats konden we de auto voor de deur kwijt en de bussen naar het centrum vertrekken heel regelmatig aan de overkant van de straat. Je bent dan in 10 minuten op High Street, bij de Royal Mile waar de belangrijkste bezienswaardigheden zijn. Het ontbijtbuffet is goed verzorgd, onze 5-maanden oude zoon werd liefdevol begroet door de eigenaresse en de kamer was erg netjes. Omdat we op zolder sliepen waren de muren wel schuin en ik heb er zelfs een keer mijn hoofd gestoten. Ik denk dat hele lange mensen (ben ik niet) beter niet op de bovenste etage kunnen slapen. Een aanrader, vinden wij.

Prima hotel dat gunstig gelegen is in de oude stad. Bijzonder is dat het ontbijt bij de prijs is inbegrepen.Dit ontbijt is zeer uitgebreid. Onze kamer lag op de 4e verdieping maar helaas was er geen lift! Ook de douche/toiletruimte was wat aan de krappe kant. Verder niets dan lof.

The Balmoral Hotel ligt in het centrum van Edinburgh, op loopafstand van Princes Mall, Scott Monument en Onderzoekscentrum Loch Ness. In de buurt bevinden zich ook Edinburgh Castle en Real Mary King's Close.
Hotelvoorzieningen.
The Balmoral Hotel jheeft een volledig uitgeruste spa, een healthclub en een binnenzwembad. Een draadloze internetverbinding is beschikbaar in openbare ruimtes (tegen betaling). De zakelijke voorzieningen bij deze accommodatie met 5 sterren zijn onder andere vergaderruimtes voor kleine groepen, een technisch supportteam en audiovisuele apparatuur. Dit hotel heeft 2 restaurants. Daarnaast is er ook een bar/lounge. Extra voorzieningen in deze accommodatie in Victoriaanse stijl zijn onder andere een fitnesscentrum, een sauna en een conciërgebalie. Dit is een rookvrije accommodatie.

Elke kamer biedt uitzicht op de stad. The Balmoral Hotel heeft 188 kamers met airconditioning die zijn voorzien van een minibar en een kluisje op de kamer. Elke televisie heeft kanalen via satelliet en een internetverbinding via tv (toeslag). Elke accommodatie beschikt over een bureau en een telefoon met meerdere lijnen. Gasten kunnen tegen betaling gebruikmaken van internet (via de kabel) op de kamer. Elke badkamer is voorzien van kamerjassen, designer toiletartikelen en een haardroger.
Afhankelijk van het hotelbeleid kan voor extra personen een toeslag worden aangerekend.

"Balmoral, Edinburgh - Great location and room"
The Balmoral is a perfect place a stay in Edinburgh. It is steps away from the rail, which we used coming in from London. You can walk to all sites and pubs from the hotel. The staff is friendly and quite helpful. The rooms are beautiful and spacious.

Although the hotel is obviously 5 star, the room we stayed in was not - very clean but basic, small and with only one very small window. I was disappointed in it - would recommend not staying in their classic room but maybe paying more and then feeling like you were staying in a 5 star hotel.

The Blamoral Hotel has to be one of the best Hotels we have ever stayed in. The building itself is exquisite and the staff are very attentive and polite without being overbearing. My wife and I loved our stay at the Balmoral. We had a beautiful room overlooking the city and Princes St. Very clean, very helpful staff and the best location in the city. The gym and spa service with a complimentary coffee/tea bar was very accessible for use. Anyone going to Edinburgh should plan ahead and stay at the Balmoral.

This was one of the best hotels that my husband and I have stayed in & we travel a lot. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and courteous and the hotel itself was impeccably kept. Our room was upgraded to a mini-suite and it was very comfortable with plenty of room to relax. Dinner at the Number One restaurant was a delight,, with unrushed yet attentive […] service for a romantic dinner that lasted for 2 1/2 hours. Walking distance to major attractions in downtown Edinburgh. First class service and accommodations, helpful staff. Expensive stay, e.g., daily valet parking our rental car was as expensive as Manhattan near Central Park. Overall, we highly recommend this hotel.

I can't say enough good things about my stay at the Balmoral. From the first step into the hotel, it felt like entering heaven. Everything was taken care of and the staff greeted me by name. Staff were very professional and friendly in all areas of the Hotel. Facilities, including the Spa, which was included in the price for the room, were top class and the general ambiance of the Hotel was carried off with ditinction. Location was excellent, right on Princess Street. A nice touch by staff was when I told them it was my partners birthday, […] on our return from dining there was a birthday card and cake in the bedroom. Exceeded highest expectations. Service was coridial and engaged and extremely helpful with plans, immediately researching all information (if they didn't already know it). We had a double room reserved; the room was spacious with (I estimate) 12-14 foot tall ceilings. The spa, pool and gym areas were well-maintained and wonderful to use. The Balmoral's […] restaurants were also great (although, as would be expected, a bit pricey). Hands down the best hotel experience we have had (we typically stay in Hyatt Regency's) and will be booking at this hotel for our next visit to Edinburgh. If they are booked, we'll retime our visit. "The Perfect Ending!"
Our experience at the Balmoral was everything we expected and more. Convenient location for sight-seeing. Walking distance to many sites. Excellent restaurants with a great breakfast buffet. All the employees were very helpful. I would stay there again.

Our stay at The Balmoral was perfect from check in to check out. The room rate was very good from a price per value perspective, but the drinks at the bar and dinners were pricey. The wait staff was excellent and the bar tenders were creative and made delicious cocktails. I would stay there again the next time I am in Scotland.

The Balmoral Hotel is lovely,the staff attentive, the position is incredible BUT for a 5 star we could not get a sandwich in the bar at 10 o'clock, NO tea or coffee facility in the room and to run the tap or flush the toilet brought out the brass band or so it seemed from the noise the plumbing made

I had been to the hotel with a tour 18 years ago and had wanted to return. My husband and I did this as a special 25th anniversary gift to ourselves. The staff, as you can imagine for a 5-star hotel, was superb. All requests were met in a timely and efficient manner. We ate breakfast here and it was a gourmet experience. I hope to be able to stay here […] on another occasion. If you are an American coming here for the first time, you may notice in the amenities list that the hotel is air-conditioned. "Edinburgh - close to train and major attractions"
Walk right up from the train station and you are there. This was one of the main reasons we picked this hotel. That and we wanted a splurge for our 11th wedding anniversary. This hotel really is 5 star in almost every way. We were disappointed that they charged for internet access and for some reason it took them a long time to return some shoes we […] set out to have shined, but when they got back they were wonderful! Almost brand new. All in all, for the cost of this hotel you are treated very well. Very convienient to the train, airport, and major attractions. We loved everything about The Balmoral except the breakfast fee (seemed high.) The staff was wonderful. We had difficuly with the internet connection and they were right there to fix it. The concierge staff was able to recommend moderately priced restaurants as well as those with star ratings. We could not tell the difference except for the bill! excellent hotel - very well located in the heart of the city. With the exception of the cocktail bar the service was excellent. Rooms very well sized and decore was superb. Great hotel. Friendly staff....great bar. BUT PLEASE...make the internet FREE OF CHARGE. Having spent that much money on a room i do not expect to be charged for internet to check in for my flight.

This was our first break in Edinburgh and one that we certainly want to repeat. The service, facilities and friendliness of the Balmoral hotel played no small part in making this trip special. Although a large and grand hotel, staff made us feel special and attended to our every need.
