The Roger in New York

Very central located to major NYC attractions. Staff (reception, doormen, housekeeping) all very helpfull and friendly. Nextdoor is a bar where you can get very good breakfasts, lunches and REAL COFFEE for a good price and in a nice/cosy ambiance. We never enjoyed breakfast @ the hotel. The hotel is heavily overpriced for what is offers (450 US of 300 […] Euro per night) for just a small room, only shower, no bath, NO BREAKFAST. You have to pay extra for personal care stuffs provided in the bathroom. Rooms is clean and bedding is comfortable. A major deception was the 'service fee' the hotel charged at check-out of 18 US per day.... An unexpected 'surprise' we didn't expect since Hotels.com confirmation mentioned all costs were covered (and paid for) in the booking. After some discussion a paper came to table the hotel reception offers guests to sign at check-in which mentions this 'service charge' in VERY SMALL TEXT which is easily overlooked after a long trip... The hotel managers explanation was that all guests paid this 'penalty' without argueing. It was for internet, gym, etc. use during our stay. Since we didn't use thise facilities we did not pay for them butt the hotel manager was very uncooperative and 'pushy'. It isn't about the money but out of principle that we pay for what we buy and not because of 'small text' in an additional piece of paper. Also we think that hotels in this price category shouldn't charge extra for these basic hotel facilities. It was somewhat of a backdraft in our overall pleasant experience at this hotel. Good hotel but heavily overpriced and bad service by the hotel manager. I wouldn't stay here again. Good alternatives nearby (f.i. Double Tree, Chelsea, for half the price of Roger). Lees meer

Ik heb al eerder in dit hotel verbleven en nu is het wel al wat afgeleefd. De ligging is voor ons zeer goed en in de buurt heb je een metro station en ontbijtgelegenheid. de kamer was groot voor NYC, de badkamer is klein, maar dat is normaal hier. Er waren 'vuile handen' sporen op de deuren van de badkamer en van de kleerkast, dat was maar vies en uiteindelijk […] had de poetsdienst dat gemakkelijk kunnen opkuisen. het pluspunt is de vriendelijke staf en het leuke interieur. ik weet ondertussen dat ze aan renovatie werken zijn begonnen, dus kil hoop dat het in de toekomst weer op en top zal zijn. Nice staff, good location, reasonable price. Just be warned they charge a daily "fee" that you can't opt out of, so the price you are quoted is less than the actual cost of the room.

The hotel is refurbishing, hence the aircondition (warm and cold) is down. We were freesing our arses off. Only one elevator functioning during daytime. at checkout they w anted extra 25j USD per day for service? What service? Maybe the noice,the cold or...the one elevator???? A no no at the moment

At first glance, this is a grea hotel. Very small and cozy and tucked in the cute part of Manhattan but there was a lot of noise going on (about to start construction) and the mystery of no heat in the evening and hard to get hot water late in the day and the evening. Made reservations via HOTEL.COM; was not happy when I went to check in and found that I had to pay two hidden FEES.......$20 a for the use of WiFi and $20 a day for the use of the gym. If I know this before hand via HOTEL.COM at least I would have packed my gym gear and lab top. I could have use the $40 for a meal.

The hotel was recommended to me by a friend knowing I prefer small, boutique hotels. Even though I arrived late at night, the staff was helpful and cheerful. The ambience is contemporary with many bright color accents. Add to this an excellent location and it would be hard to find a better place.

Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in december 2011, shared the room with 2 others. Rooms were a little small but clean. Hotel was close to alot of attractions and we walked everywhere. Very nice european style hotel...read small rooms but excellent breakfast and perfectly located. The down side was a very weak view from the room and the TV was kaput...so no NFL playoff joy.

Bright rooms and reasonable size. Stayed here last year but this time on checking-in was told that there was a daily charge of $19.99 for internet access & use of the gym. When questioned about this (as the facilities description on hotels.com mentions internet access but does not mention additional charge for this) the receptionist said it was not […] included in the original reservation price. Having not needed internet access or use of the gym during such a short weekend stay this should be an optional charge and not mandatory. V disappointed by this. For the past 2 years we have been searching for a hotel generally near Madison Park so that we might be close to the relative whom we visit. For price and location, Roger Williams is the best so far. Typically the rooms at other hotels are smaller and, at our price point, closer to the street noise. My stay at The Roger Williams was thoroughly enjoyable. I have already recommended it to my friends.

Nice place, very confortable roomm, cozy king bed, good shower, good everything!

The hotel was very nice, great location, clean rooms and pretty spacious for Manhatan, friendly and helpful staff. The only downside was the bathroom. It was small but very nicely done. However it had a sliding door and both the sliding door and the wall separating the bathroom from the small entryway were made out of glass. There was etched film covering […] the glass so you could not see straight through it, but once the lights inside the bathroom were on... you did not have much privacy from the rest of your roommates. I will simply say that location is the key to this hotel's success and attraction. In comparison to other hotels I've stayed at in other cities, this one was average. While the room was comfortable, the bathroom was something less desirable. The hot water in the shower would take about 10 minutes to come up, not to mention that the drain would constantly […] get clogged up. Also, I was surprised when checking out of the hotel with a 'service fee' that was supposedly added when booking through this website. For our anniversary, I wanted to bring my wife to a decent boutique hotel at an affordable price in a nice neighborhood. We were very pleased with the room; not huge, but who needs that? Bed, linens, bathroom all great (though it took a while for the hot water to reach our 5th fl shower). Initially, we were sent to a room that was not even put together […] -- the box spring was leaning against the wall! this used to be a really nice hotel but I feel like theyve lt it go..My room smeeled really bad - damp and moldy. Plus they charged for EVERYTHING: a toothbrush, a razor...

The bathroom was extremely small, it had residential plumbing. We had to call twice in 3 days, plumbing problems. The cable didn't work on some channels. On check out we were told that there was a $19.00 fee per day plus tx for hotel upkeep. This is a Clip Joint!!!

Bad review not related to above comments, and it may be related to Hotels.com, is a daily fee of $19/day charged by the hotel over and above fee paid to Hotels.com.

The Roger is a nice hotel, spacious for NYC, the bathroom is tiny, but nice. There's next to no closet space & no drawers to put clothes away. The bed is comfy and the towels are soft. The AC is moderately loud so if you're a light sleeper bring earplugs. It's not bad at all and a must in the summer. The staff is friendly and helpful. This is a nice hotel, close to Penn Train Station, Empire State Building and Time Square (all in walking distance). After booking online and paying taxes and fees we were hit with an addirional service fee at checkout.

We have stayed many times in various hotels in NYC. Hotel Roger Williams is the best. Fine workout facilities (not big but adequate), great breakfast and they allowed me to take a second plate to my room to eat while I worked, very fresh decor, well maintained, and very helpful staff at door, desk, and restaurant (which was open until midnight). I had really a nice stay at this hotel, with very good staffs serving us. My only small complain is about the size of the bathroom, but nothing to say which is a matter to avoid the hotel.

I was very satisfied with my stay in this hotel. It was very clean, personal were very helpful and friendly, and their food was delicioous. (I ordered room service oceana salad, definitely recommended.) If location is more important, choose this hotel. If comfort is the main creteria, do not choose this hotel as the air-con is very noisy and unbearable. Toilet vanity is so small that even the hotel's amenities could not find a proper space to place them on the vanity slab.

Hotels in NYC are very expensive. This hotel was very good value. It is small but it had eveything I needed. My room was bigger than expected although the bathroom was ridiculously small and I would have much rather the bathroom take up more of the total room and be a decent size. One of the reasons this hotel is generally cheaper than others is that […] they charge for EVERYTHING extra except wifi - right down to basic toiletries. If you are not going to be using these thing this property will still be cheap - if you indulge in their breakfasts, mini bar, robes, toiletries etc it will quickly add up. The hotel is in a good location for tourist activities - basically the closer to times square, the more touisty the areas. The staff were all excellent (particularly the door-men). It was a very pleasant, good value stay in an expensive city and I would happily stay there again if concentrating on touristy activities. Lees meer

Really enjoyed our stay at this boutique hotel in the heart of Manhattan. The staff were very helpful and friendly and our room was spacious, clean and well appointed. Great location and easy to get to sights, subway, shops and restaurants.
