The rooms were average but surprisingly quite comfortable. The hotel is huge, but resembling a rabbit warren with corridors going every which way. The room was clean and big, and staffs are very kind and friendly. I am fully satisfied with everything except one thing which is that the wireless internet signal was too weak, I was unable to use Internet in my room, I needed to go to robby to use internet.

Stayed overnight prior to flight out in the morning. Family of 5 - 3 teens. We arrived late in the afternoon from Hamilton and were ready to relax and enjoy a quiet evening before flying home to Australia in the morning. The parking for the car was convenient and at the time of our stay it was free. We were assigned rooms on the ground floor and walking […] around to the rooms we found the decor a little dated, but ok. However the rooms did not live up to expectation. Rather old and tired looking. Bathrooms left much to be desired - one room had an old bathroom with only a shower curtain and so water sprayed all over the floor making it a little slippery and no doubt dangerous for older people. Other room had a shower over a bath which was rather higher than usual. Children found getting out of the bath and stepping down to the floor rather awkward. Did not eat at the restaurant - chose to eat out due to rather high prices. We chose this hotel because it was close to the airport (5 min drive) for early departure. We chose this hotel because it is conveniently located to Auckland airport and we stayed here in 2003. The Hotel is in need of a make over, the furniture is dated and looking shabby.We opened our curtain in the morning to a view of a brick wall..... The hotel is near the airport, but nothing else. Hardly anything to eat within a walking distance. The free breakfast included with our stay was terrific. It seemed over the top to charge us to get to the airport--that could easily be a "free" service. Also, we didn't know beforehand that in order to take advantage of reduced price on transportation […] to the airport it had to be mentioned at the time of booking--that was hard to do as we had no knowledge of that in advance! Hotel was nice, staff were friendly, Only objection was that it wasn't clearly stated that you would be required to pay for airport shuttle if you had a discounted room rate. Need to read the fine print I guess.

The hotel is close to auckland airport and was ideal for a late night pick up. The hotel staff were extremely helpful and pleasant. I thought the room decor was tired and out dated and needs a good paint and redecoration and the bed was a little too springy for me. The heating was good and it was ok.

How could this hotel be rated 4-star? The service is pathetic, receptionist won't even smile. I asked them about the Aukland Explorer Hop on Hop off and I was told that I have to phone the and make the booking myself. We've been to other hotels and normally this is part of the service the hotel provides to their guests-they organise the booking. We […] phoned Room Service to request for some sugar, we were told to get the sugar from the restaurant ourselves!! The toiletries provided were simply soap, shampoo and conditioner. Hardly to be expected from a so-called 4-star!! I'd say this would have been the worst hotel I've ever been to.The carpet on our room looks like it has not been steamed clean for months. I had a great breakfast everyday I stayed at the hotel and the staff were very welcoming and friendly, Nothing was too much for them, it seemed. It made my stay very pleasant as I spent my mornings having a long leisurely breakfast and talking to the staff there especially Miriana the supervisor. Upon my arrival the there were particles of dirt on the floor in my room. The room had obviously not properly been vacuum cleaned (for a longer period of time?). The bathroom made an overall tidy impression, however, there were several pubic hairs to be found in the bath tub. Also I encountered several long black hairs on the counterpane. Overall the […] room was very spacious and could have been very comfortable but for the apparent negligence in doing a proper cleaning job. Positive points: the young lady at the counter was very friendly and accommodating; the surroundings as well as the place itself are very quiet and ensure an undisturbed night's sleep. In a location where all of the auckland attractions and sights can be accessed easily enough in all directions All the necessities required to have a comfortable overnight or longer stay. Friendly Staff. Small gym facility but ample enough, and you can watch the kids in the pool while doing a workout. Hotel was a quiet location . The double bed mattress was sagging in middle, needs replacing, needed 2 pillows as one was so thin. Meal in dining room in evening wasn't very nice. A strange mix of European and Japanese food on the one plate, probably trying to please the mixed race of guests. Had to pay $10 ea return to Airport..

I stayed here with my husband the food is great, restaurant staff awesome but the service of the reception/check in staff (one person in particular) was absolutely appalling. We had the printed copy of the booking which stated the entitlements of our package deal and yet when we asked about the free parking and breakfast we were asked to show proof […] of this futhermore the next day came back at night absolutely exhausted from a days travels to find they had locked us out of our room assuming we were only there for the night yet we booked 3 days stay with them. Then when we finally checked out the person who checked us out had the audacity to ask us after reading our survey regarding Reception's bad service who it was that checked us in yet it was her!!! We only stayed one night as the flight arrived late on so needed somewhere close to airport. I'd say the hotel was 'okay' Nothing too special, but it served it's purpose as somewhere convenient to rest our heads overnight. Could do with a refurb though..

It's a slightly run-down hotel, past its prime. Our breakfast was free, but -I kid you not- there was a cockroach among the plates. Appetite gone, we fled as quickly as we could. On the airport shuttle we still had to pay for.

An ideal place for an overnight stay should you arrive late in the evenong. Comfortable rooms and courteous service are part of the package provided. Service at the check in - check out could not have been more helpful. I have no hesitation in reccomending the GC - Auckland Airport for a stopover.

fancy exterior and lobby wait till you see your room what a joke. other than being close to airport there is nothing around like a place to eat or buy a six pack. the airport shuttle is not free, stupid of me to assume but all others in area mentioned free shuttle on marque. then at check out i was asked if i used mini bar and i replied no i hadn't […] but after reviewing bill on shuttle to airport a 30.05 charge was included. II arrived in a hurry to get to the races and the person dealing with me got me a close room from reception and was very co-operative and the restaurant meal and service was excellent. I did think the end of the bar room where the pool table was could do with some re-vamping it looked very ordinary.

As always i have enjoyed my stay at Grand Chancellor, the service and rooms are very nice for and good worth for your dollar.I would recommend anyone to stay here and enjoy. the local knowledge is also very good so they shall direct you if you have the need to move around within Auckland

this is a great hotel for the price that close to the airport only complain i would have is that you have to pay for wireless

This hotel looks as if it hasnt been renovated since the 70's. It was clean and conveniently located near the airport but they charge $10 for a shuttle that takes you less than 5km. For the price, I don't think it was a good value. Would not stay here again at that price.

This place is good for an overnight stay. Everything is as you would expect for the price.

Good price or a hotel near airport for those in need of a night sleep betwen flights. The room was clean and big but felt a bit old. Neighbourhood not so nice, much traffic around airport. Pool was OK and the restaurant too.

Old smelly hotel needs to be renovated and updated. Would not recommend. Wireless Internet very expensive

We selected this hotel because of its location close to the airport. The staff was very friendly and the hotel neat and clean. This was just a quick stopover on our way to our final destination. I was a bit surprised that the room had no air conditioner as the room was a bit warm when we checked in. The cooler night temperatures were sufficient for […] a good night's sleep. This hotel was pretty outdated and basic but it was clean and had everything we needed.The staff were friendly too. I would recommend it for an overnight stay if you just want to sleep and be close to the airport. You need to pay for the shuttle between the airport and hotel which is a bit annoying.

We needed a place to stay close to the airport for a brief stopover. The Hotel Grand Chancellor exceeded all our expectations as a honeymooning couple and the Junior Suite was huge, beautiful and luxiurious. I was looking for an alternative accomodation venue from our usual. I found the Hotel clean the room neat and tidy, breakfast was very good. The staff were pleasant to deal with, the cost reasonable. Perhaps the only downfall was the room charge for internet access and (perhaps more importantly) the shuttle bus charge to and from the Airport, might […] be something negative I will bear in mind if not having alternate transport. this "4 star" hotel is NOT a 4 star. i liken it to a 2 star with a flashy name and decent restaurant. they say it recently had renovations to their rooms. if so, i would start all over again! everything looked as it were from the early 1980s. the sheets smelled of mildew. the bathroom was quite dirty and outdated. the bed sunk in the middle. the room […] smelled of smokers. the hotel's shuttle bus was NOT FREE and you were NOT told this until departure. the public restroom was cleaner than our room's bathroom. there was nothing i liked about this hotel with the exception of the bar area. the staff was very nice but not very informed about the surroundings. i would have favored staying in the airport instead!
