Mana Kai Maui in Kihei

The room was booked for my dad. It was so small. Noisy location outside of elevator. Walkway was noisy due to foot traffic. Air conditioner was a pain in the butt to operate. Tv was fro the fifties. Very good value! Great location, nice bar. Only thing was it was hard to make a reservation directly with them,, went through Hotels.com but hard to get a followup phone call answered by the Resort.

Make sure that you realize that there are wedding receptions often held at the restaurant in the Mana Kai that may last till 11:30PM. With that one exception, the restaurant has a sushi bar, a bartender that knows what he is doing, and amazing food. The rooms are clean and the location is unbeatable.

Snorkeling and water sports were convenient. We didn't try the restaurant. Very comfortable stay and would return.

We stayed here at the end of our stay as we needed a few days after our condo. The elevator was really oily, I thought that it was suntanning lotion that someone has sprayed on in the elevator. After letting the front desk know I overheard the woman yelling at the staff because it was stainless steel cleaner. 1/2 hour later it still wasn't cleaned up […] and the elevator was still being used. It got everywhere. Also, this is specifically for the "B" rooms: the giant window that faces the walkway is so thin that you can hear people who are speaking in even a low voice all night and they can hear you. Great location and amenities. Recommend getting one of the nicer rooms as the small rooms on the north side are a bit austere and noisy.

The Mana Kai is an affordable place to stay in Kihei, that's right on the beach, has a pool, walking distance to town along the beach, a good restaurant (though maybe a little pricey) and happy hour is affordable and good. I'd go back in a heart beat!

Of the 6 nights we stayed I got NO sleep for 5 of them. The room faced the parking lot and the noise from every drunken person was like they were standing in my room. Raised the point with management and they shrugged their shoulders and kept telling me to talk to security, like it was my responsibility to keep it quiet during the evening.

This is one of our favourite spots in Maui. The rooms aren't the biggest but it's on a great beach with a great restaurant and bar. Lovely. We'll be back again.

The location and beach are fantastic. The room was clean but extremely small. The grounds were wonderful with good dining and a small store with everything in it. There's no way this room was 604 square feet. It worked out because we were just there for one night but really it was more like 200 square feet or less - including the bathroom. Very small, […] only one person could walk in the room at a time without being in the others' way. It was the 2nd better of a two bedroom unit locked off and that's what it felt like, the guest bedroom in a home. The curtains would not close completely as they were not hung right. I had a hair clip I used to keep them closed. Your bed is right by the large window and anyone walking by feels like they're in the room with you. There was a small dorm fridge in the (very small) closet. If you made coffee there really wasn't anywhere to set your cups to pour. the only flat surface is the bathroom counter. I wouldn't recommend this one bedroom lock off for any length of time. It was just claustrophobic. We did see the one bedroom with kitchen and balcony and it was outstanding, with a view that couldn't be better. We had a wonderful time snorkeling right in front of the hotel which was exactly what we wanted. I would stay here again but would only stay in this room for one night, I would pay more for the larger rooms or stay elsewhere for any longer. Lees meer

We stayed in the hotel rooms, not a condo, so I can only comment on those rooms. The bed was comfortable, but our air conditioning did not work and our mini-fridge made such an annoying sound that we had to unplug it. Also, there is NO noise barrier between the room and the walkway outside (or even the parking lot below). You can hear each and every […] word that people are saying as they walk to their room, which is pretty annoying at three in the morning. I bought some ear plugs and slept like a baby from then on. The actual hotel itself is in an amazing location. The rooms are clean and the beach is great. Having the general store downstairs was also awesome. Would I stay here again? No. Did I love the location and still have a great time in Kihei? Yes! Lees meer

The place was in a great location. Great Beach! We were on the 8th Floor with a beautiful view. Not all rooms have a view we were lucky. They have a resturant that was in the complex, the people that had a few were loud in the parking lot and the sound traveled all over. Not great at 2:00 A.M. This facility has options of one or two bedroom condo type as well as regular room we stayed in. Our room had refrig, microwave and very clean. Would definitely stay again

Great place, and my second visit in two years. Going back in July. Great rooms with amazing views. Wonderful beach right out the door. Great snorkeling spot to boot!

My wife and I were thrilled with this hotel. We got a great deal too on Hotels.com. The hotel sits right on a beautiful beach with a little reef. This means you can swim, kayak, paddle board, or even snorkel right here. We visited several other "popular" beaches, and always found ourselves saying "we like the one at our hotel better". Not to mention […] the spectacular views of some of the other islands. It's a 20-30 minute drive to Lahaina where most of the activities occur. So that's one downside. Our room was small, but well cleaned, and we rarely spent any time in it. I'd be hard pressed to walk to any shopping or dining from here, you'll probably need to take a car. But it's only a few minutes away, and you can find free parking. I've been in 4 hotels now in Hawaii, and when I go back, I'm definitely going to stay here again. Lees meer

Good beach location with helpful staff. Good restaurant on-site. Upper floors have good views for Kihei. Not all rooms are vacation rentals, some people live here and their daily routine can start early. Good location and good value.

Stayed 8 nights the hotel rooms are a little small but who stays in the room. The hotel gets a little loud in the mornings in the hotel rooms due to having some shutters for windows and no glass. The location is great a few steps to the beach. This is a nice place to stay . my only grip is Parking if you get a hotel room and not a condo you dont get […] a reserved parking and you sometimes have to park in a gravel lot where are rental was rearended. Nice hotel, close to shops and restraunts and on the ocean. Good rates, clean, with a friendly and helpful staff. Only negative is not enough parking.

Hotel condition was great, we were on the top floor. Neighborhood was decent but we stayed in kanaapali just before and that was much nicer so that tainted our opinion. This hotel is very close to makena and wailea which are nicer and more upscale so it is literally a two minute drive away. Only complaint is this is a timeshare that pretends to be a […] hotel so it has no regular hotel services. My wife twisted her knee and we needed ice and their only option was for us to buy a $4 bag of ice. That sums up the service you receive but otherwise it's a beautiful location and overall worth the value. If you have the option though kanaapali area is much more resort oriented. Kihei has more residential streets right at the beach so it feels more like SoCal beaches. Lees meer

Few things to note when booking this hotel. 1. Cancellation is 30-days. 2. Pictures here in the website are the 1 or 2 bedroom suite which seems nice. However, the standard hotel room is quite basic and smells when you enter the room. 3. The standard hotel room bathroom is small. no exhaust fan switch. 4. Ocean side units are great with balcony and kitchen However back units are single room ,no view ,small not so great,

We only stayed one night but will be back !!! Clean, quiet and comfortable. Nice beachfront location with a friendly staff.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for our last night in Maui. Incredible views right on the bay, couldn't ask for a better view. The Service on the other hand could be much better. When we booked the room we told them we were bringing our one year old baby and would need a crib. When we got to the hotel we checked in and reminded them that we needed […] a crib, so they took one to the room. On our way out (checking out) only then did the older women at the desk begin to lay into me about having more then 2 people in the room. I told her there was only 2 people in the room. She looks down at my baby and says "Whats That," So I said you mean my one year old son, she said it doesn't matter there are only 2 people allowed in though's rooms. So I reminded her that the reservation showed I was bringing a baby and that we needed a crib, WHICH THEY TOOK UP TO THAT ROOM. She was incredibly rood, scowled at my wife and I and my baby. This hotel does have beautiful views but is completely spoiled by the unwelcoming unfriendly and down right rood behavior of the staff. If your looking for a pleasant time at a hotel/resort STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! Lees meer

The room is in essence a condo apartment divided in two, you can either get room "a" (the full apartment size one, with a decent sized living room, dinning room) or room "b". We stayed on a "b" unit. It was well equipped, very clean and comfortable. The only thing to comment is that the windows of all units "b" face the parking lot, and are preceded […] by the hotel corridor (outdoor), meaning that you can get a bit of noise (chatter from passer byes or vehicles in the parking lot) and privacy is not great. The room is also quite small for a hotel room, but we had no problems with it. All units "a" face the beach + ocean and are a lot more private. The location is great, right on the beach, it has also a (very good) restaurant and a convenience store right downstairs. There is a really nice pool as well on site. Front desk service was very good, the only issue here is if you arrive after hours (closes at 7:00 pm) you must use a courtesy phone, they will give you a code to get your key and you must register again the following day. It's older, but well maintained and great location!

I found this hotel to be comfortable and everything you needed is supplied. They have a small but great store for all those items you will need. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

The desk manager was extremely helpful time and time again when a business crisis erupted during our vacation. Great spot, and we were most greatful to Ardis for his help.

Excellent hotel. Everything was wonderful. All the staff were exceptional. The unit that we were in was advertised with no lanai, so we didn't expect one. It did not impact our enjoyment.

We stayed here before and it was fantastic - we had a hotel room on the 7th floor and it was recently remodeled and tastefully done. The hotel rooms (cheapest option) are very small - it's simply a room with a bed, a dresser, two night stands, a closet, and restroom with very little space, but if you're there to see the island, who cares how big the […] room is? This stay started off on less of a good note - we arrived after 7, which is when the front desk closes. We called ahead and they left a key in a lock box for us for a room on the 4th floor. This room was not recently remodeled and the floor plan made it much more cramped. The fixtures were old and the bathroom door swung open instead of being a sliding door, which made it very cramped. What finally did it was that the shower did not work and, if you travel often, you know that taking a bath at a hotel is not generally advisable. We called security to let them know the shower did not work and we wanted a new room and the security guard did work very quickly to call the hotel owner to see what he could do. Unfortunately, there was an emergency while we were waiting that required about an hour of the guards time, so we waited a while, but eventually were given a new room on the 8th floor, which was even nicer than the last room we had on the 7th floor. From that point forward, the stay was fantastic, we love the Mana Kai and will stay there again if we come back to Maui, its very close to the south beaches and not far from the airport or the Hana highway. The beaches are good for playing around and relaxing and pretty good for snorkeling depending on where you go. Lees meer

We couldn't have been happier. The view from our room was sensational and the beach was just steps from the lobby. The only improvement would be to add an air conditioner to the condo, although the weather was perfect and really wasn't needed for me (it's never cold enough for my husband though). Ok this is my first review but i just had to warn people about this hotel room. First the photos are deceiving, they are of the condo rooms which are about 3-4 times the price of the normal rooms. If you book the "normal" affordable rooms, these are about a 12x12 box, with a window which does not open (actually bolted shut) and facing the walkway which […] all customers walk by. The bathroom reminds me of some kind of cheap motel.. The front desk after about 9 is empty and locked, no assistance is available whatsoever.The only window in the room acts as display portal especially at night for whoever walks by can see right into your tiny room. This is a first for me and not very relaxing... The location is great however the beach near the hotel is pretty packed as a Days inn is located just next to the Mana Kai. I would recommend this hotel if you have the money for the condo however the room at normal rates is very overpriced there are several hotels available with "Normal" size rooms. I would not stay here again, and i would say this is the smallest hotel room i have ever been stuffed into. Would have left however i prepaid through hotels. Good Luck! Lees meer

Absolutely the best location in Kihei. Hotel is right on the beach, you can't ask for anything better. Rooms are huge for a hotel room, very comfortable. The hotel has a great restaurant with a good Happy Hour. Hotel staff has lots of "Aloha". I will be definitely staying here on my next trip to Maui.

Hotel was terrific - "hotel room" option is very small, simply a bedroom and small bathroom and no balcony, but its right by the beach and close to all the shops in Kihei, so we were very happy. The beach itself is a bit more private and there weren't an abundance of people snorkeling or surfing - the waves themselves weren't the best for board sports, […] but there are beaches nearby that seemed more popular for that option. I enjoyed my stay at Mana Kai. It beach front property is a gem. Alot of the hotels at the same price would of been a walk across the busy hwy or farther and that would of totally ruined the experience. It's nice to wake up and walk right out the front door to one of the nicest beaches in the area. The restaurants happy hour was decent and the convenient […] store in the hotel is, well, convenient. One caveat though is try to get a hotel room on the upper floors like 7 or 8 for sure. I arrived two hours early and my 7th flr room wasn't ready yet, so the front desk gave me an option of another room that was ready on the 3rd flr. I asked if I could see the room first and boy was I glad I did. When I checked it out it was all nasty 70s-80 decor and was really depressing. So I opted out and decided to wait for the 7th flr room as at least that one would have a better view. Phew. The 7th floor room was completely redecorated with new furniture and granite top counters. So Go for the upper floors that have been redecorated. I would of given this hotel a 2 star review if I stayed in the 3rd flr room. As for the hotel room, it was nice as stated, but a little on the small side even for a hotel room. The only place I really noticed it was in the bathroom where the toilet is pretty much in front of the sink it is so cramped. But really wasn't that big of a deal. Can't say anything about the condos as we just rented the Hotel room. Had some trouble with the adventure booking desk downstairs messing up my snorkeling order, but take that for a grain of salt. But having the rentals and booking desk downstairs is convenient too. So over all good experience for the price. Lees meer

Was a little hesistant with the price being so low, but the amenities and location are perfect and the quality is really quite good. The room was small, but I only spent night time in it so it was fine. I would definitely return and recommend.

This is really condominum rentals and not hotel rentals as they advertise. If you are looking for a hotel room, they rent out the extra room that is connected to a condominum. The rooms are extremely small! By far the smallest room I have ever stayed in. There is no privacy and you can hear everything!! And most importantly, there is no service at this […] hotel! There is no front desk to support you past 7 pm or before 8 am. There is no bell hop to store your luggage. The day we arrived we were planning an all day trip on the road to Hana. We got there early and our room was not ready but since they were closing at 7 they gave us the key to the room we would be staying at and it would be ready by the time we return that evening. We got back that night exhausted from our trip and ready for a good night sleep. We get into our room and it is covered with ants! There were ants all over the walls, in the bathroom and worst of all crawling on our bed! There was no front desk to help us change rooms. I called security and was told there was nothing he could do...I was absolutely disgusted and refused to stay in the room. Finally they gave us a number to call for late check-ins. We finally reached someone to change our rooms after about an hour of killing ants. We were then met downstairs by a gentleman who told us we were in a tropical environment and that was to be expected. I am sorry but that was the 4th hotel we had stayed in during our trip (we hopped islands) and no one else had a problem with ants! Finally we got moved to another tiny room with no privacy but at least this one had no ants. In the morning, we had to move again and did not recieve any compensation for our horrible night! They charged us full rate for spending our evening killing ants and moving our stuff. Then they asked us if we wanted to upgrade to a condo for an extra cost! If they had any customer service savvy they would have apologized, given us the condo for the horrible experience. Overall, this Lees meer

Just the fact that Mana Kai is on the water with a long stretch of beach with a wonderful snorkeling venue just outside the resort grounds is worth the stay! It also has a great restaurant with a fantastic happy hour, a rental shack with all of the toys a Maui trip needs, and a corner store. There are two types of rooms; a smaller room with no deck, […] small fridge and a small tv and there is the larger suite with a kitchen, deck and a view of the beach all the way down to the Grand Wailea. I chose the smaller one so that it would be better motivation to stay out of the room. The staff was very helpful and everyone was quite lovely. Great place for all travelers. Lees meer

Mana Kai Maui did not really appear or function like a hotel. When we checked in, there were people at front desk but no other staff to help with bags etc. Parking for guests is limited. Room is small and uncomfortable as was the bathroom; I have seen cheap motels that were better furnished than this one. It took a while for the room to be cooled to […] a reasonable temperature. The front desk was closed early in the evening and I couldn't get anybody to answer the phone. When we tried to check out early in the morning, we had to call the security, who advised us to leave the keys in the room. Definitely not recommending it. Lees meer

The room was slightly dated but adequate and the location was great. Super beach and snorkling right in front of the hotel. Great open air bar for Happy Hour and family friendly ambience. Many good restaurants near-by.

I will definitely stay here again....Close to everything and right on the beach.

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at Mana Kai. We upgraded to room 801b which is at the end of the hallway so we didn't have to much noise from traffic. Plus we were one of the few "B" rooms with an ocean view. Note: if you are staying at this hotel i would recommend renting a car rather then taking a shuttle from the airport. the shuttle will cost you […] $37 each way (roughly the cost of one days rent for a vehicle). Or rent from Kihei rent a car. They will pick you up from the airport(at no charge) and if you drop the vehicle off the day you're leaving, They'll drop you off at the airport too. Plus if you rent from them for 5 days you get 2 for free. Just beware some of their cars are older so ask for a newer one. Lees meer

Customers should be aware that the rooms at this hotel are condos that are privately owned and rented out. The room we had was actually a 'guest room' with a shared main entrance into the main condo. Security at the hotel had to break into our room through the window on two occasions as there was an issue with the lock on the door.
