DoubleTree by Hilton Berkeley Marina in Berkeley

Disclaimer: I am a hotel snob. I like modern spaces, so the Doubletree is not my idea of a most desirable hotel. And they put us in a wing that was farthest from the lobby, down where the hotel was under construction, which did not help with my impression. That said, this hotel was great for my daughter's birthday sleepover. The room was recently redecorated […] in what I would call the "1990's Starbucks" style. The indoor pools were lovely, especially in winter. The bed was comfortable, the place was not noisy, and we enjoyed the courtyard and bayside grounds. The only issue we had was that the rooms were not ready when we arrived; we waited 20 minutes for one and more than 2 hours for the second room to be ready. However, the great guy at the front desk (Jared) offered us some compensation in the form of breakfast at the restaurant; we were very happy with this solution. Thank you, Jared!! The people at the Doubletree work hard to make the stay wonderful. It is not a luxury class hotel, and building 4 is undergoing renovation and is a tad ugly outside, but is a great place for a quick overnight in Berkeley--especially for the price. Wanted a winter vacation with an indoor pool. Pool was nice and of course indoors and heated. Condition of hotel room was OK, a bit worn but comfortable. Staff was polite and helpful. Area is convenient for kids activities: Habitot, Tilden Park/steam trains, etc.

We have stayed at this facility (when the hotel was under another name )when our son was a student at Berkeley. It is as nice as we remember it. We were visiting family in the east bay and it is a wonderful location. We enjoyed walking along the bay walk path--just beautiful views of San Francisco.

Great location with great views of San Francisco and the Bay. Wonderful park adjacent to the Marina. Easy access to Berkeley and the highway. Great warm chocolate chip cookies. Pet friendly.

We stay each Janurary for about a week. It is always great. The staff is so friendly and helpful. They seem to improve each year. We had wify in the room this time. They have a shuttle you can take to the BART so you may not need a car.

Coming from the Mendocino Coast we are so spoiled, always hate trying to sleep in the noisy, energy filled city. What a pleasure to wake up to a picture window of rocking sailboats. The freeway is convenient if you are going into San Francisco or Berkeley is a world unto itself.

The hotel is remote & quiet, yet close to many sights. Loved the walking trail & the views from our balcony. The staff were all so friendly & helpful. We will definitely be back & will recommend this hotel to others!

I left my phone charger there andbthey are going to mail it to me great service. Free computer usage in business room

Reserved a king bed room with balcony. Were put into a small, handicapped room with a narrow bed, only a hand-shower, no balcony. A TOTAL disappointment. The hotel clerk actually looked at us and laughed when he assigned us this room. While this may have been a freak occurrence, it certainly left us very unhappy.

Wonderful hotel and experience. Super quiet and lovely location on the marina...could see the lights of SF and Berkeley Hills. The front desk staff was very helpful. They are rennovating or painting the lobby, so will look great soon. Beds were very comfortable. Close to restaurants of 4th Street. Would definitely stay here again. Lovely marina and the rustic hotel with it's amazingly warm indoor pool is the perfect destination

Nice hotel,great location and friendly staff that made you feel welcome and free shuttle service was an added bonus.

The HVAC fan was so noisy it woke everyone up. Though this was the Hilton Honors floor there was a lot of dust. They don't use an anti-foaming agent in the hot tubs so it looks like someone poured in a box of soap. Though I paid for WiFi it worked everywhere but the room. It's likely the ethernet laptop crowd killed the bandwidth streaming movies since […] the hotel wanted $16 for 2-star movies. OK for the price but next time I'll pop for the Embassy Suites. I was very pleased with the grown-up fitness area and my room was nice. Housekeeping didn't clean my room one day until after 2:30, there were no newspapers as advertised and my room key stopped working repeatedly. Oh, I also saw something in my room, a mouse, a chipmunk-I'm not sure. No one seemed to care and there was no offer of compensation.

In fairness to the Hotel they are renovating the building I stayed in but the room had a weird smell and the carpets were not clean. It took 2 days for room service to pick up my breakfast tray, the electronic entry worked intermittently and the elevator was creaky and not reliable The grounds need sprucing up . The staff was generally helpful and friendly […] and the room service tasty. The linens were fine but an extra blanket they brought me was very poor quality and made out of some weird fabric. The heat could not be regulated. Finally when I checked in I was told I could only stay in building 4 because I was traveling with a dog but later discovery many dogs were staying in the Marina view rooms plus there was construction on Sat when I was told there would' be none until Monday A fabulous location and hopefully the renovations turn the property into the gem it should be. Great location, close to the freeway and to 4th street (a cute little shopping district). We had a room on the ground floor facing the marina. Could sit outside, people watch, breath the fresh air and look at beautiful sail boats. The staff was extrememly friendly, consistently offers warm cookies, and will go the extra mile to make sure guests are […] comfortable. Hotel was older, but renovated. Our room was clean, the hotel staff was nice and helpful. We liked the surrounding area - the park and water views. If you are looking to be in the city, you may want to look elsewhere, but we enjoyed a more peaceful area for this particular stay.

The only problem we had was locating the correct building. The signs outside were hard to read in the evening.

Good east bay location. Adjacent park for walking or jogging. Very scenic. Lots of free parking. Good cookies at check-in. Coffee shop by lobby. Restaurant/bar on premises in nice convenience. Good breakfast but a bit expensive. Free (like by adding $5 to daily room charge to cover costs) wi-fi would be a big improvement. The shower was set up to point out into the entire bathroom. There was a mouse trap under the dresser. I heard a mouse or ? in the room at 3 AM.

I was so excited, I had been telling my girlfriend about this great hotel I would stay at when I had sales calls in the bay area years before, for the 4+ years we have been together. what a fantastic location, great natural surroundings, and the views across the bay. I became more excited when I confirmed the "Jr. Suite with balcony and Marina view". […] It was more than I could have hoped for, and the price was fantastic for a Saturday only stay. Then after driving from Reno and playing golf in Sacramento area we arrived. The first room we were offered had no balcony but a door opening to the grounds. we did not feel safe with that and requested we get as reserved. When we were given our new room we arrived to find it was the one next to the elevator. in fact, the elevator shaft was was PART of the room. We were so tired and recognizing we were only there for the one night, I chose not to change rooms a second time. the moral of the story.....always confirm your internet reservations and don't be afraid to ask to change your room. the rest of the stay was great though its starting to show its age. the fitness centers with HOT jacuzzi's a plus and again you can not beat the location and area surroundings. This is definately NOT hilton's best hotel Rooms seemed kind of old and there was no couch in our room just a bunch of chairs. Not sure if we'd stay there again probably would just drive down the road and stay at the other hilton.

It was our first stay here and it proved a great experience! Upon checking in I was greeted by Ashley at the very busy check in desk, and she put a great face on this establishment though using our HOTELS.COM reservation. I was a bit distracted after a long drive and anxious to see PRIMUS that night at the Greek Theater... she took the time to explain […] the availablility of the FREE SHUTTLE and other options for getting to and from the concert (That was AMAZING and in an AMAZING outdoor venue) as well as dining near the hotel and near the concert! (YAY! Ashley-THANKS!) This hotel location is great for those that want to walk/bike/skate/jog along the wetlands and park setting of Caeser Chavez Park (we biked) as there are several trails right outside your door and plenty of FREE parking! (HATE PAYING FOR PARKING!!!). Great park for kite flying/picnicing etc with great views of SF, The Golden Gate etc. and there is a marina just steps from the hotel with Hornblower Yachts berthed there. Another cool trail is the SF Bay Trail and also open to exploration is the East Shore State Park. There is an nice on site resteraunt and bar/lounge with a nice comfortable outdoor seating area to relax and unwind and watch the sun set over the bay and SF. Located just a short ways from University Ave, Shattuck Ave (Gastro Ghetto and the famous Alice Waters and Chez Panisse, birth of the slow local food movement(?) and Telegraph and the UCB campus. (A relatively easy bike ride uphill from the hotel). The room was nicely appointed and everything worked well in our 3rd floor room with balcony (overlooking the parking lot facing East) and the black out curtains were GREAT the following moring shielding us from the glorious sunrise till we were ready to appreciate it on our terms. A couple of great breakfast places within a few miles just on the other side of the train tracks/hwy 880 on on 4th Street. (Bette's Oceanview (?) Diner was well worth the wait and the $$!!!!!!! Stayed for two nights and it was by far the best hotel service I have ever experienced. The hotel staff were on point with the customer service and went above and beyond to make sure my stay was outstanding (which it was). The view of the marina from my hotel room was immaculate. No noise from surrounding rooms were heard. Everything worked. The room […] smelled nice. And the beds were ridiculously comfortable. My plans are to stay here again next year! Lees meer

My daughter, myself and a couple of my friends traveled to Berkeley for a book signing and a little retail therapy. The hotel was very nice. I take medication that needed to be refrigerated and they we great about bringing a fridge to our room. Beds were comfy, room was clean and the location is beautiful. Right on the water! Our TV had volume and no […] picture so we called and they sent someone up right away to fix it. It happened and second time after returning to the room later so we just shut it off instead of calling again. The check out clerk gave us extra chocolate chip cookies to make up for the TV error. All in all it was a great stay! Would stay there again in a heart beat! Be sure to check out the Share-n-getty garden behind the hotel. It's really cute! Lees meer

I had a medical emergency and the hotel manager would not budge on the cancellation policy. We understand the need for such a policy, however, they didn't even offer an exchange for another night. In this economy people can not afford to just throw money like that away, and the hotel profits from renting it out anyway.
