The hotel is in need of refurbishment, the bathroom was not cleaned very well and appeared unhygienic. The leisure facilities were exceptionally dirty

First impressions are really good. Hotel is nice and clean. Room was very modern and comfortable. But the air con never turned on. Told reception who didnt bother to tell us the maintenance guy wasnt coming till we rang back 2hours later. Then got moved rooms and felt like time zones too. Enjoyed our stay in this clean, dog friendly, convenient hotel.Highly recommended

spent one night with my granddaughter. excellent. very clean comfortable and conveinient. will stay there again.

Convenient and pretty reasonable hotel. With the exception of the guy working in the Health Suite area (who was really friendly and helpful, 5*service), the other members of staff were average, a bit robotic. Room was again, average. Everything you need but not up to 4* in my opinion. It lacked in the little extras like biscuits and a decent quantity […] and choice of hot beverages, which help you to ignore things like a bed base that's too big for the mattress and rolls around when you sit on it, a broken hairdryer, tiny bath... Decent shower in the room though. The health suite was what attracted us to ths hotel. It was pretty good, but the jacuzzi was simply too hot to sit in for longer than a couple minutes, and the showers and pool were both too warm to really cool down in. The sauna was lovely though. We didn't get breakfast as we thought it was too pricey. We stayed for 2 nights and I would say that it was expensive for what it was. If you can get the Holiday Inn in Solihull for less then stay there instead as the rooms are definately better, of if you don't want a health suite then it really isn't worth a visit. Lees meer

RECEPTION AND RESTAUARANT PERSONAL COMPLETELY LACKING FUNDAMENTALE SKILLS OF HOSTING AND THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO COORDINATION BETWEEN WHAT HAS BEEN PAID FOR AND WHAT IS BEING CHARGED. YOU HAVE TO REPEAT MANY TIMES TO WAITERS WHO AND WHAT YOU ARE IN THE DINING ROOM FOR AND THEY SAY THEY WILL CHECK AND LET YOU KNOW AND NEVER COME BACK BUT SEND SOMEONE […] ELSE. FODD ORDERED NEVER SERVED AND WHEN ASKED WHERE IT IS THEY SAY THEY FORGOT AND BRING SOMETHING ELSE WITHOUT EVEN ASKING AND NOT AT ALL COMPARABLE TO WHAT IS WRITTEN ON THE MENU. JUST TERRIBLE AND VERY DISTURBING AND FRUSTRATING AND 4 STARS IS WAY BEYOND WHAT THIS HOTEL SHOULD HAVE.. .EVEN HAVE TO ASK FOR A PLASTIC THROWAWAY SHOWER CAP! Comfortable and convenient, but not exceptional.

Our Sat Nav didn't find it straight away - but when we did see it, it was very impressive. It was not the clinical, sterile environment of the commercial hotel chains, but it was a lovely, comfortable, clean hotel with friendly staff. It wasn't far to the NEC or Birmingham Airport, and overall we enjoyed our stay.

no hot water in the shower one morning, apart from that, pretty good.

Service was very good in the hotel and it was located ideally for purpose of my travel. However the room floor boards were very squeaky and the corridors outside the rooms were quite noisey as the hotel seemed to have weddings most nights and children were running up and down corridor throughout the night

The room smelled of mold and you could see mold in the bathroom. The bed was very uncomfortable, pillows were as well. We had the private sign on the door but that did not matter as the maid called the room instead. Stains on the floor, the room was very cold. We were 6 miles from the town, we would not stay there again.

it was great and cool but we couldn't find the hair dryer or the iron but then looked ever and found it it was fantastic time and day for my date.

Perfect for the N E C,Nice resteraunt staff ain.I will say that the bar staff are a little surly but they did have a drunken wedding party to dealwith,and I think I would have been the same ,or worse.I would definatly use this hotel again.

We had some issues with the room initially given to us (the heating wasn't working properly) but we complained at reception and they moved us to a better room pronto... Happy with the service in general.

We booked to stay here as it was close to another hotel where a friend's wedding had taken place. It was fairly easy to find from the M42. There was only one person on reception when we arrived but it didn't take too long to book in. The room was clean and comfortable but the bin hadn't been emptied in the bathroom. This is a large hotel located near to the centre of the delightful town of Solihull and 15 minutes from NEC/airport. The rooms are clean and comfortable, although the shower head kept falling off it's holder. We weren't charged for parking. Reccommended at discount Hotels.com rates.

We insisted on a room with working AC. The reception desk is prominent with signs pointing out charges for car park, charges for paying with credit card etc etc. Unfortunately this hotel uses the minimum of staff, all youngsters presumably on minimum wage so dont expect traditional service.

We stayed one night at the st johns hotel for our anniversary , the check in staff were welcoming and friendly and the hotel itself was nicely presented . Our room was clean and comfortable , very comfy bed , but decor a little tired . Breakfast was great !!! Good choice and hot and tasty ! Convenient location near to shops and transport links, we recommend a local indian restaurant "the delhi" close by very good value and excellent food. Parking at the hotel has gone up considerably since our last stay and is now £7 a day which we think is too much.

excellent hotel, food good value for money with fair choice. Only stayed one night but would happily stay a lot longer. rooms and reception smart. One thing though, did not know we had to pay for parking till we had a bill under the door. £7.50 per day. happy to pay but felt like i'd tried to get away with it. tariff reasonable. If exhibiting at theNEC SHOWGROUNDS, this hotel is conveniently located, just off the Motorway 42 and a total 12 minute ride away subject to ideal road conditions. Very helpful Hotel staff and top marks for cleanliness. Walking distance from excellent restaurants serving multi nationality cuisines. A new Mall has opened recently with all known popular […] brand shops that one would expect on a High Street .Ample Parking Space and convenient In house Bar and Restaurant. Would certainly stay there again and highly recommend this Hotel to anyone visiting Solihull or driving from the NEC-Birmingham. Lees meer

Good location. I don't think this hotel is up to a 4 star standard. Watch out for hidden charges (car park)

The hotel was good value with good facilities and in a nice quiet location but an easy walk into the town.

I enjoyed my stay and thought all the staff were professional and I liked the athmosphere of the hotel and will certainly stay again

A group of 13 of us arrived at hotel to a very friendly and helpful staff member. I and another group member misread on the web that there was pull out couch in every room, we booked thinking 3 could sleep in the rooms. This was not the case but the very helpful staff member arranged 2 alternative rooms with 3 beds to accommodate us, at no extra charge, […] for which we were truly grateful. Ideal hotel, gym and pool were excellent and the food was very nice, even if it was served a little too quickly. Buffet Breakfast was great with lots of fruits, pastries and the usual hot grub.

Best hotel in Solihull, Service was slow at Reception & in Bar Areas.

I've stayed in many, many hotels. I'm perfectly prepared to accept some issues, even in 4 or 5 star hotels. Good initial thoughts as I got checked-in. Got to room, air con doesn't work. Open window, but air con plant is right outside my window. Too noisy to keep the window open. Sleepless night due to ridiculous heat in room. They agree to move my […] room next day, but I come back from work to discover they haven't, and there have been a lot of people arriving that day. Got a new room. Room number 2. Seems nice, clean, air con works. Walk into the bathroom and there is no floor. They've dug it up! Next new room. Room number 3. Assured it was away from air con plant. Walked in, looked out window. Air con plant outside window. No power in room and no air con. Next new room. Room number 4. Nice room. New air con!! Single bed. Now I'm 6'4", and a single bed doesn't really cut it with me, but by then all I wanted was a shower, food and some rest, so I didn't bother moaning again. The rooms in general (as I've seen 4, I think I can generalise) were okay, but decor definitely needed refreshing. Paint peeling, stains on roofs, bits of bathrooms hanging off (or floors missing!). For a 4 star hotel, I do actually expect more. If there is a leak and it stains a roof or wall, fix the leak, sand the wall, and paint it. A couple hours work can make a huge difference! Staff were friendly and helpful. The lady on checkout asked if my stay had been fine, and I said "Once I got a decent room". To which she replied "Air con I presume? We're so sorry." So there is a known issue, which must have been there for a while. Fix it, spend money, respect your guests! I put it down to bad management I'm afraid. I say this based on other things too. In the bar/restaurant, people were having to make 3 or 4 choices of wine because they didn't have them in stock. That's ridiculous. They also ran out of one type of draft beer. How? While the hotel itself is in a good location and has a rather nice pool, sauna and fitness suite which were plus points for it, it was disappointing that the room itself suffered a few flaws. Most notably, the air conditioning simply did not work and appeared to be jammed on a high heat setting despite being set to cool the stiflingly hot room. Despite […] reporting to the hotel reception and being promised someone from maintenance would attend to resolve the problem, this simply did not happen. In the end, turning off the air conditioning and opening the window as wide as possible was the only way to reduce the sauna level temprature to just tolerable levels. Having cleared the sweat from my eyes I was then able to see the room decor was a little worse for wear with some peeling paper in the bathroom and a loose electrical socket in the room which was just a little frightening. The in-room fridge looked quite dated and worse for wear and struggled to cool - possibly due to the high room temperature giving it way too much work to do. Hopefully as the problems were reported to reception they will resolve them soon. Breakfast was a fairly simple affair being buffet style with a reasonable array of bread, 'traditional english' breakfast fare and some 'continental' cereal and fruit. This hotel is excellent value for money, the rooms are very comfy and the bathroom is big. The shower is a dream, and the cleaning staff are excellent, visiting to tidy the room up everyday. Great place to relax by the pool and spend a nice weekend away from it all.

Excellent service, staff very friendly and helpful. Lovely clean hotel with nice leisure facilites, pool, jacuzzi, steam room, gym. Hotel is in the centre of town which has plenty of high street shops and a few bars and restaurants to choose from.

The Hotel was very clean and tidy, Leisure facilities fantastic and well kept, I would recommend this hotel to anyone taying in the Birmingham area on Bussiness.

Wouldn't normally venture to this side of the Midlands when on work, but very glad we did. Booked through rooms.com at a very good rate, this hotel is very well appointed and the staff were most polite and helpful. the rooms were immaculate with a super size bed and full facilities. Unlike some competitors the room size was also good (not boxy!). […]  I didn't get the chance to use the restaurant but the bar service was good (if a little pricey) and the breakfast selection (included in the price) was excellent. Ett fint hotel med bra läge. Vi hade hundar med oss och det var otroligt hundvänligt med fina strövområden omkring. Ett hotell att åka tillbaks till!

Solihull er en dejlig lille by med masser af gode butikker. Hotellet ligger 10 min kørsel fra NEC og koster ca. 11 pund. Hotellet kan ikke anbefales, hvis man skal på romantiske ophold, men er til gengæld et fint sted, hvis man skal til NEC. Hotellet har ingen adapter man kan låne og der var problemer med vandet i bruseren og varmen på værelset , så […] husk sokker ;o) Fin WiFi. Lees meer

The St. Johns is a very nice hotel with excellent rooms and professional staff. The sauna and pool are a real plus.

I found the St Johns a very good value for money. Nice rooms, very nice service from personel and breakfast good with possibility to have an omelet done to your specs. All in all a good experience. I will surely stay there again for the next NEC.
