Keauhou Beach Resort in Kailua-Kona

Het hotel ligt naast een van de beste snorkelplekken van het hele eiland. Tevens is er een activiteitendesk van Expedia waar je al je tours voor op Big island en eventueel andere eilanden kunt boeken. Het is wel aan te raden om een auto bij de hand te hebben. Hotel ligt op loopafstand van dorp of stad.

I thought the hotel was really great for our agencyʻs retreat. We learned a lot about the history there and it was very interesting. I thought the food was excellent and the service was good and I would definitely stay here again if the opportunity came. However, I personally prefer hotels that have more amenities but thatʻs a personal choice.

Nothing fancy. Free breakfast buffet. Beach. Good ocean view room with balcony on 2nd floor. Two hammocks on the lawn for anyone's pleasure. Sea turtles weren't present. Plenty of walking on property. If you like to jog, there is a good path on main road outside hotel (with mile markers). It was a relaxing stay and quiet, for the most part.

Our group stayed at this hotel twice, in four separate rooms, in mid-March 2012 and found the rooms to be spacious, with beautiful ocean views. The rooms were clean and as described. The included breakfast was the absolute highlight. Located in the open air restaurant overlooking the ocean, it was delicious, with both hot and cold breakfast items available, […] with juices, coffee, tea, and a beautiful assortment of fruits. What a great way to wake up in Hawaii! The only downside of our stay were the seriously outdated bathrooms. In all four rooms the layout was such that the sink was in a large open area next to the room door, opposite the mirrored closet doors. At the end of this sink alcove was a sliding door that housed the toilet and stand-up shower in a space about the size of a broom closet. This space was extremely cramped, the sliding door couldn't be locked (imagine trying to get privacy with an inquisitive toddler in the room) and had large gaps around it even when "closed" and the ceiling panel was rusting in all four bathrooms, paint peeling... But it was still clean, even if in need of a major update. I don't know why so much space is devoted to the sink and closet, when it would make much more sense to expand the toilet/shower space into that same area and make it more spacious. But bottom line is that this was still an excellent value for the price and we would stay here again without hesitation. Lees meer

This hotel is fine. Nothing fancy, for sure. The staff is great. Strange food service hours. We kept having to leave the hotel to eat because they only serve during certain days. The main reason to stay at this hotel is getting an oceanfront room to watch the turtles directly below you and the whales just out front. We saw the best whalewatching of […] our entire 10 days in Hawaii -- and most of that time was in Maui! Also, the adjacent beach part has great snorkeling. We really enjoyed the Wednesday Farmer's market. Some of the best shopping of our trip was found there. Pool area could sure use an update. Lees meer

Nothing fancy, but good value. Nice view of the lagoon, easy access to public beach and snorkling.

The room was large enough, however the bathroom is very small and only a small shower. Very noisy if the room next door is occupied, like they are in the same room as you. Location is great and Hotel food was good, likely would not stay again.

Adjacent to a near-perfect community park lagoon with fine snorkeling for the whole family, this resort, with it's exceptional complementary breakfast, is a real winner. The nearby Keauhou Shopping Center has a variety of restaurants, a pharmacy and non-touristy shops.

Five out of seven nights we had to contend with smoke from neighbors... and the management seemed unable to do anything about it. "Call us and we will send security" is what they said. The reality is, the problem never went away. They did not move our rooms, or offer meaningful solutions. The false fire alarm at 4 a.m... also not good. And the "pigs […] at the trough" free breakfast... not great either. The staff are more like a summer camp kitchen duty crew, shuffling tons of people through at speed, but not too worried about whether you get what you need. To be in Hawaii and have to get up at night to close the door because of second hand smoke: the pits. Lees meer

Glamorous, it is not. But you know what? Glamor kind of costs a lot. This is a totally reasonable, get what you pay for (in a good way) hotel. View from the veranda bar is awesome, great beach access, ancient ruins on the property, reasonable drinks for a reasonable price. The hotel is a little far from things, the pool is a little sad, the staff is […] a little long in the tooth, the rooms are a little shabby (but clean and have a balcony). But given the price, you get a lot for a little. If you are looking for a 4-star experience - this ain't the place. But I would recommend this hotel for someone traveling on a bit of a budget, who has rented a car, and wants a relaxed and casual experience. All and all, a win! I would go back. Lees meer

The Keauhou Resort was just the right place for us. Close enough to everything but quiet. Great snorkeling right next door and good food. The local farmers market right there on the grounds. Local music in the veranda lounge and historical sites right there too. What more could you ask.

Would definately stay here again. Rooms were clean, had a balcony that we could watch the sun rise and set. Had a nice area next to hotel that you can snorkel. Close to town. Had a good breakfast buffet every day. Loved the sea turtles in the lagoon! Planning on going back next year!!!!!!

Extremely clean, quite modern with great staff. The gardens and surrounds were in immaculate condition and it was great to walk around outside. We had a deluxe ocean view room on the 7th floor which captured the mountains to the east and a view to the south which had a great ocean view. We could see the turtles and fish directly below us in the shallows […] as the hotel is virtually built right on the edge of the water. The buffet breakfast was pretty good and some of the menu items changed daily. It took about 7-8 minutes to get into town by car but you could catch the shuttle / trolley which ran at regular intervals. We personally liked the quiet of the night time and found ourselves sleeping with the door open as they had good fly screens on the verandah doors. This allowed us to turn the air conditioner off in the night and catch a cool breeze right through the room. If you want to be near the action of town in the night this is not for you. You would be better off right in town. Once again, we didn't care as it was quick by taxi or car. All in all, a great stay and extremely good value for money. Mahalo! with Lees meer

This place has seen better days, the service is horrible at the restaurant and stores, my 2 year old waited 30 min to get his ice cream, and when we ask the waitress about it after 20 min she answer " well I have to give this drink to those people ( referring to some customer sitting in another table) and then i have to walk all the way to the kitchen […] to get it", the internet sucks and is far from town, don't stay here. We had a great time. The beach next door is convenient and has some great snorkeling. The rooms were clean and comfortable. We could open up our sliding glass door at night, close the screen and let the sound f the surf put us to sleep. It's easy in and out and close to downtown Kailua, Captain Cook, Point of Refuge, Kealakekua Bay, and only 11 miles […] from the Koa airport. Unless you like crowds and triatlons don't go on the first week in October during the Ironman Competition. If we had to do it over again we would book later in October. Lees meer

I loved this hotel although the distance from town was too far to walk and there isnt much going on around the resort, would highly recommend renting a car if staying here. The trolley service is good but not frequent enough. The breakfast buffet was great and differed slightly each morning which was nice. Only issue i had during my stay was that my phone in the room didnt work and i have to get it serviced on 3 occasions during my 5 day stay. We splurged for an oceanfront room and were very glad we did. We were actually given a corner oceanfront room on the 6th floor on the lagoon side which was wonderful (2 balconies) Saw sea turtles down below as well as some fish and sat on our balcony until the sun was completely set in front of us. We preferred the hotel's less commercial location to […] those in downtown, but others might disagree and prefer to be in walking distance of shops and restaurants. We took advantage of their hospitality room to shower and change (post checkout) since we had a late flight. Our only criticism was the dirty condition of the intake air vents in the room. Staff was great. Breakfast so-so. Would recommend the hotel to others. Lees meer

Good location and good value for price. Nice pool/beach

While the outside may look like it was built a while ago (I'm sure it was) the rooms are clean modern and quiet, the staff on site is impeccable, the breakfast is huge and very good, and dont waste your time by not booking the Ocean Front rooms! looking over the lanai at the ocean UNDER the hotel with the Green sea turtles that must live in the shallow […] pool there with exotic reef fish. the grounds are immaculate and constantly being pruned. Absolutely a bargain and one of the best places we stayed while in Hawaii Lees meer

Stayed 2 nights here with my family this past week. It was a great stay. Perfect location for snorkeling and exploring the Kona side of the island. We had a wonderful breakfast both mornings with everything we could have wanted. It was a nice place and would recommend it to families.

Overall very pleased with this hotel - breakfast was fantastic, had a lovely room with fantastic view and staff were very helpful and friendly. The small beach next door is perfect for snorkeling with lots of fish and turtles. Very limited for evening meals unless you drive 5 miles up the road to a great little town with shops and lots of places to […] eat. Decor was a little tired. Visited the volcanoes as a day trip from here and had plenty of time. Would definitely recommend having a car if you are going to stay here though as there was only one restaurant which stopped serving at 8pm. Lees meer

My wife and I stayed here for one night and the hotel itself plus the service was everything we could ask for - clean room, attentive staff, good breakfast, and a beautiful location. The biggest problem was the bed - it was rock solid and both of us slept poorly and woke up in the morning feeling sore all over. I would have asked for a room change if […] we had been staying more than one night (though I doubt they would have had any left given that it was the holiday weekend). The other - lesser - issue was the size of the bathroom in that it was really tiny. I am not sure if this was because this was a "standard room", but it didn't bother us too much. Overall, I would have given this hotel a 4 if it had not been for the bed. Lees meer

Location is the star at the Keauhou Beach Resort where we stayed in June 2011. The hotel and the surrounding grounds, over 100 acres, are owned by a for-profit arm of Kamehameha Schools. The resort hotel is operated by Outrigger. The grounds and the surrounding area will take your breath away! To the west is the ocean--and the most amazing sunsets. […] Rooms on this side jut out over a lagoon where you can see tropical fish and Honu, the endangered green sea turtle, in abundance. Restoration of historical and sacred places on the property is ongoing. To the north, past the swimming pool, are a royal fishpond, a replica of the simple cottage of King David Kalakaua, and gorgeous views of Kahalu'u Bay. Kahalu'u Beach Park, a family-oriented beach with wonderful snorkeling and easy surf, is a very short walk away. To the south are two restored sacred places: Hapaialii Heiau (carbon-dated to between 1411 and 1465, this heiau is believed to have served as a seasonal calendar--local practioners came to chant and pray on the evening of the summer solstice while we were there); and Keeku Heiau (where invading Chief Kamalalawalu of Maui was held and then sacrificed after being defeated by Chief Lonoikamakahiki in the 16th century). Be sure to make a reservation for the free historical walking tour if you visit Keauhou Beach Resort! Significant hotel renovation was completed in 2008. The rooms, lobby area, Kamaaina Terrace (where a lavish complimentary buffet breakfast is served daily), Verandah Lounge (where you can enjoy lunch, dinner or cocktails at a reasonable price; and a to-die-for view at sunset), and pools (one just for keiki) are comfortable and well-maintained. All rooms have spectacular views, but the large oceanfront rooms (with wrap-around lanai) are the absolute best. If you are looking for relaxing non crowded resort; this is it. We paid the price to get deluxe ocean FRONT and it was worth every penny. Turtles; fish and birds everywhere. Beautiful sunsets. Menu in restaurent was simple; short and expensive. Staff was teriffic. Free breakfast buffet was excellent espially for free.

The Keauhou Beach resort is located in a wonderful setting if you don't want to be in the hustle and bustle of Kona. It's on the south end of Ilikii Drive, too far to walk to Kona. The setting is selling point for us -- next to a good beach for snorkling and great tide pools to explore. On the downside, the breakfast buffet got old after two days, and […] they nickel and dime you for things that we felt should be included -- computer use and parking. Everything about this place was good and solid but nothing outstanding. It is conveniently located just outside Kailua, and right next to Snorkel Beach (which made up for the rather modest pool). There are nice tidepools around the resort, and one can view fish, turtles, and even eels just looking over the railing from the lobby. The rooms were smallish, […] and they had double beds which is always a tight squeeze for two adults, and no tub. They smelled a bit musty, which is not unusual in Hawaii. The balcony had a nice ocean view which we appreciated, but it was somewhat noisy from traffic below. Breakfast buffet was quite good. Overall it was a very pleasant stay, though not memorable. One great hotel! Watch the green turtles feed in the lagoon next to the hotel or take a short walk to the beach for first class snorkeling action. In the breakfast room there is no bad seating - you have ocean view from every table. However, the breakfast is just average (but who cares when sitting in paradise) and they do not serve Kona coffee. No […] matter which room you are staying at, you see a piece of the ocean. They are clean and well maintained, the only downside is a small shower - no bathtubs. I already stayed there during my last trip to Kona, and I certainly will do so again. Lees meer
