Birmingham Garden Inn and Suites in Birmingham

This was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in ! It was so nasty ! There was a huge hole in the bathroom ceiling that had been patched with a piece of sheet rock and nails, the barthroom window did not lock properly and someone could fit thru it if they wanted to break in. There was broken up soap left in the bathtub from other people who had stayed […] there, the floor was soooo disgustingly nasty, there was trash under the bed and behind the nightstand. When we turned back the bed covers there was " stuff " between the sheets and what looked like crumbled leaves, the fridge was nasty as well ! I could go on. If it had not been so late we would have gone somewhere else. We slept in our clothes and prayed we didn't bring home something nasty ! Lees meer

Toilet was dirty. No Ice in two machines, had to go to lobby late at night to ask about getting ice. Desk clerk seemed to care less, but sent me to a 3rd machine that had ice. Only good thing was the bed was comfortable.

This hotel was obviously an older hotel and not a new "box hotel". Besides the age of the hotel, you could tell they attempted to keep the place clean. The security chains did not work in either of the rooms I booked. The receptionist at checkin was rude and abrupt, but the rest of the staff were polite. The breakfast was cereal, juice, and toast - […] so if you want a hot breakfast then go buy something yourself. If you want a cheap hotel and do not mind no extra amenities then this place works for you. We were only staying at this place for one night for a conference, and so it worked for a cheap place to sleep. Lees meer

The room was filthy. The plastic wrapped cups had a nasty sticky film on the outside. Cigarette burns on the bedding. Curtain over window was broken and wouldn't completely cover window. No remote. No ashtray for a smoking room. Window in bathroom opened to sidewalk large enough for a person to come through wasn't locked; lock had previously been broken […] and was hard to keep in locked position. It was definitely not entirely clean - my ice bucket was dirty at the bottom and there was no liner. I had to walk around to all of the ice machines to finally find the one that worked- and I just used a cup. The carpet was stained and the bathroom was a bit scummy. ...I wouldn't stay here again, even thought I was looking for dirt-cheap lodgings for the evening. It is like the people running this place are taking an active effort to keep the rooms dirty. The floor was very dirty, didn't step on it barefoot. The grounds were generally okay, just the look that they hadn't been maintained in a while, which kind of […] goes with the rest of the place, rooms included. The "non-smoking" room I was in had clearly been smoked in recently, adding another level to the general "ick" factor. I have stayed in some sleazy and sketchy hotels in the past, quite a few in fact, and this one wasn't as much sleazy as it was dirty. Although it did appear the roach motel described in other posts is closed at the moment. General recommendation would be not to stay here, unless it is an extremely good deal. On the positive side, the room was very large and included a couch and a table with 4 chairs, and a large bed. I am assuming King Size. Lees meer

There were bedbugs

Adequate and fine for the price.Internet was out.Breakfast is very basic.Desk very helpful.

Room smelled to much like chemicals. Receptionist talked to me the fingers in the mouth. Reception area needs help. Did not even wanted my credit back. Moved to Comfort Suites for not much more.

This hotel has seen better days. I would not go back.

Before driving my family from Texas to North Carolina, I became worried that hotels in Alabama might be booked by relief workers so I checked out hotels.com. Not familiar with the area, I booked at the Birmingham Garden Inn and Suites because the map showed that it was right off I-20. The location was convenient. I read the reviews but think that people […] tend to exaggerate the cleanliness of hotel rooms. I write this review because I feel it necessary to clarify some of the other comments regarding the motel next door. There is a fifteen-room roach motel literally in the parking lot. From the second floor, you could easily spit on their front door if you were so inclined. So if seedy people make you uncomfortable, do not stay here. The room was larger than you'd expect, but certainly not very clean. There was a dirty sock in the middle of the floor. But the best part is that the deadbolt did not work on the door to the adjoining room. The door swung aimlessly between the frame and the length of the chain. I went to the front desk and asked if any other rooms the same size were available because of the door. The front desk clerk, who was otherwise very friendly, began to search the computer for what I supposed were other rooms. She then told me that the room next door to mine was empty so there was nothing to worry about. So I shoved a chair under the handle. Breakfast was adequate. Lees meer

Skip it. Old and musty smelling. Bathroom fixture fell off wall. Coffee maker did not work. Carpet was very old and felt sticky on my feet.

I have no complaints. Room was clean and neat. AC unit was unusually noise. Good location for us in relation to UAB. Neighborhood a little rough at night.Hotel next door is the problem.

A straight shot to Sloss Furnaces, so good for convenience, but that's all. The room was filthy! I never once took my shoes off in the room! I counted three cigarette holes in my comforter and found garbage under the bed. The counter folks were wonderfully friendly, thank goodness. However, the women who maintained the so-called continental breakfast […] were as cranky as anything everyday... and I stayed for 5 days. And the ice-machine never worked. Lees meer

Good value for the money, clean and convenient to the airport

The room was big but it was very dirty. The floor had stains on the carpet so I wore my socks. When I took them off, my socks were black on the bottom as if I had walked outside in the dirt. The bathroom still had hair in the tub, and the air conditioner didn't work.
