Ace Hotel Portland in Portland

Stayed with my husband and young son. We loved it. It was funny that ear plugs were provided, assuming that the hotel knows that the place can get noisy from people and music downstairs.

I am still there and it is a pain to send this review, because the internet cannot work more than 10s! I'd prefer to pay than have such a poor service! Otherwise, rooms are OK, not noisy, but the Tenderloin area is not a charming place in SFO (kids many beggars, taking crack in the street...). Non smoking hotel.

The ACE Hotel in Portland is a must stay at location if you want to be in the Pearl District. Close to many restaurants and shopping, the ACE offers a nice place to lay your head. The beds are not entirely comfortable, but the boutique hotel is just that ... certainly not a Westin, but definitely ecclectic.

I would describe this hotel as having character. It is old and neat in a retro sort of way. The rooms are very small and have very limited accomodations. However, the location is one of the best in Portland, located one block off Burnside street in downtown.

I stayed at the Ace Hotel over Christmas. Because business was slow, I got a free upgrade to a better room without even asking. That was nice! The room itself was fairly spacious, clean and comfortable, but the comfort level suffers a bit from the building's past as the low-rent Clyde Hotel (before the Ace people bought and renovated it). The single-pane […] windows let in drafts, and that means the heater is constantly going on and off to compensate. Also, the tiled bathroom is unheated and can be pretty cold in a Portland winter, but it's probably really nice in the summer. I liked the comforter topped with a Pendleton blanket -- that was a nice Portland touch -- and the iPod compatible alarm-radio would've been great if the iPod hookup had actually worked. Fortunately, Portland has some great radio stations, and the Ace has tons of cable channels. The only real reservation I have about the place concerns a lack of security. Quite often, I'd come into the lobby at night and there would be no one at the front desk, which means that anyone could walk in off the street and go upstairs into the hallways whether they were staying at the hotel or not. Portland is fairly safe, but no city is free from crime altogether, and the situation made me a bit uneasy. More positives: The food available at all three eating places within the hotel is excellent. Stumptown Coffee isn't my favorite, but they've got excellent pastries, Kenny and Zuke's is an excellent deli, and Clyde Common has an awesome bar and quite good food. All in all, the Ace is a fine place to stay even though they could do a little better with the security situation, maybe finding some way to limit access to the upper floors and elevator without compromising the funky character of the hotel. Close to Powell's and some of the best restaurants in town, friendly staff and even Leonard Cohen lyrics on the walls. We were there for Leonard's concert so this was the perfect hotel!

I had a very pleasent stay at the ACE-Hotel in Portland,Or.Just the way I like it,simple,clean, comfortable and good people. Restaurant serving good food and coffeeshop providing baked goods are in the same building. The location of the hotel allows plenty of shoping, entertainment and business activities in close proximity.

The Ace has done a great job of turning an old skid-row hotel into a hipster haven. It's been done up really cute with lots of thoughtful, creative and cool touches. But here's the rub... Be aware when booking that the rooms have no toilet or shower... So plan on trundling down the hallway for many of your needs. This is a great hotel for a vacation […] visit to the Rose City. The hotel is pretty cool. But, it sucks to put on your clothes at 3 am after a night of drinking only to find that one of the bathrooms is out of order, and the other one's door has a broken lock. Also, don't try to sit down in the restaurant just to have a beer. They frown upon that there, and there are no open seats at the bar either. Still... There's a Stumptown Coffee connect to it. Need I say more?! But seriously, this is a great hotel in a great location of downtown. I will be staying here each time I return to Portland until I move there for good.

Beds and pillows are the worst and the air conditioning didn't work, until we asked them to look at it which took us a day, but they fixed it in two minutes. They are very helpful at the desk. Love the hotel, but it isn't for everyone.

The Hotel has a historic look about it. It was convenently located. We were within walking distance of the show that we attendinding. The room we had seemed to be on the small side. Stayed here at the end of July. I ended up booking a a "shared single" room, meaning a shared bathroom/shower. I was hesistant at first about not having my own bathroom but turned out not to be a big deal at all. I never had to wait to use the bathroom or shower, even in the morning. They give you a nice robe to use during stay, so was perfect. You […] also have a sink and towels in your room, so getting ready in there is not a problem. The hotel is full of character and the clientele is young and trendy. The coffee bar in the lobby is really popular and seems to always be busy. My stay was comfortable and the location was really convenient to get around Portland using the streetcar or MAX to and from the airport. I was in town for a wedding and had friends staying all throughout downtown, but I using the streetcar was super easier to meet up with all of them! Portland is a funky town with lots of character. Ace fits right in, it's like an old home but of course, bigger. I did the share-a-bath deal and it was fine. This isn't the Hyatt, but it's great if you're laid back and looking for local color and experience. I will be back.

The hotel overall was pretty cool, but for what I paid I would have liked more. The window in my room didn't close so they just stuck a beanbag thing in it. Every room is different but my friends' had things mine didnt.. they put cool glass coke bottles in the room but ours didn't have a bottle opener. The Ace was aces in my book. Fabulous room decor (but industrial modern is my thing) in a building with great bones. Grab some Stumptown Coffee (best in Portland) off the lobby in morning and Clyde Common for meals. Reliable wireless access. Great shower and nice comfy robes. The Good: Fun Funky little spot right near the Crystal Ballroom in the Pearl District. My boyfriend and I were crashing there for the night to see a show so the location was perfect. I am from Brooklyn so the price of the hotel was definitely good compared to New York. The bed had huge pillows surrounding the top and side which were super comfy. The […] decor was artsy and random (which is my style so it was prefect). There was a little radio/alarm stacked on top of vintage suitcases. One wall was covered in pages from an old book. We had the shared bathroom and double bed combo which worked out better than expected. We thought the bathrooms were going to be dorm style -but there were a couple of private bath/showers per floor that were clean and really large. Stumptown Coffee Cafe is awesome, as is the free computer in the little top floor lounge area. Lots of people on macs hanging out in the bottom lounge. Bar downstairs. The ACE isn't about comfort, it's about style/mood/'tude, and it has that in spades. But do I have to put up with noise to be hip enough to stay here? Seriously, this creaky old building has zero soundproofing. Unless you're on the top floor you'll be hearing the goings-on above you. LOUD. Sorry, ACE, but that does matter. I read before we came about the loud garbage trucks, and sure enough, there was a solid hour of crashing and banging right outside our window starting at 6:30 am The desk clerk was polite and helpful. We loved the Stumptown coffee shop in the lobby. Maybe ask for a room that faces away from the street, to avoid the noise.

In general, this wasn't a bad hotel, but there is a reason I'm writing this review at 6:45am from my bed. We stayed in the room from a thurs. to a tues. and every weekday morning the trash guys spent 45 min outside our window starting at around 6:30. The windows are not insulated, so you hear any conversation, any bar, any traffic that comes by the […] hotel. It would have been a good warning (along with the co-use bathrooms that people have mentioned) when you check in. My overall feeling is that in their desire to be "hip and cool," they lost sight of the essential function of a hotel. No matter how "chique and nouveau" your hotel, it is useless if you can't get a good sleep. Lees meer

Loved everything except completely lackluster service - perhaps that is meant to keep with the 'hip' vibe but I'd have preferred employees who were less cool and more willing to be polite, helpful - basically act like they worked in the hospitality industry.

the hotel was hip and cool. great vibe and energy with stumptown coffee attached and the best pastrami sandwich shop RIGHT NEXT DOOG... BUT MAKE SURE YOU SPECIFY YOU DON'T WANT A SHARED BATHROOM. unless of course you like walking down a hallway to use the toilet. and shower...

I loved the ACE hotel. When we arrived I was under the impression I had booked a room with a bathroom in it. I'm not sure how I got confused but I was booked in a room with a shared bathroom. After telling them I would never do such a thing they upgraded us to a fabulous room. I think this was my mistake but I have to say, the room was stunning, beautiful […] shower with two heads, lovely shampoo and conditioner, the room was always clean and the decor and arty look of the place exceeded all my expectations. Fina stilrena rum och korridorer. Det går utmärkt att dela badrum/wc. Rent och snyggt. Trevlig personal och cool lobby med sköna soffor. Dörr i dörr ligger Portlands bästa café - Stumptown Coffée Roasters - där man kan köpa sin frukost. På andra sidan en bar och restaurang som verkade trevlig.
