Congress Hall in Cape May

I've wanted to stay at the finest looking hotel in Cape May - Congress Hall - for quite some time. Finally took the trip and I although the overall stay was fine, I wanted to share the cons here. Pros - It is truly a stunning looking hotel inside and out. Staff was friendly. The restaurant The Blue Pig is great as well. We booked a town view room with […] a queen sized bed. Room view was great, bed was closer to full size bed than queen - a little to snug for comfort. There was a noticable slant of the floor of the bedroom; not sure if that's due to this very old structure settling, or by design. Our biggest gripe was the bathroom. There was just a shower on a tile floor (no bathtub or anything); when we questioned the front desk - they said that it was for handicap access - and that they put people in these rooms if they are booked up. We arrived at check-in time, and the Hotel wasn't crowded, so I'm guessing it was just an oversight (benefit of doubt). Not certain why the staff wouldnt have said that they were putting us in a room with a handicap-accessible bathroom right off the bat - that's the issue. I paid extra for a king ocean view thinking it was a king bed.. no. It was a small double on the 4th floor. I couldnt find help at the front desk to rectify. The blinds did a poor job of keeping out the blaring sun even on a cloudy day. It was an interesting building, very large and historical. (A bit creepy for me though. Being well over 100 years old Congress Hall offers a unique look into what lodging once was and where service was of upmost importance. The room was very clean and comfortable with a lot of the old décor throughout the entire hotel. A very enjoyable stay and will recommend Congress Hall to friends and family.

Hotels com said the hotel had a hot jacuzzi and there was none we took the ferry across the Delaware only to find out the shuttle that thd nite clerk told us that would take us to the malls was not running except on weekends what a joke would never use this booking agency or stay at this hotel again. I felt like I spent the weekendd with the devil. […] Doesn't anybody do there Job any more is everyone incompetent or is it to much to ask to get what you paid for or am I discriminating against something or other. A very high room rate for three adults for one night OFF SEASON? A bath towel had a hole in it, there were no chairs to sit on, room furniture was mismatched, there was no business center and no vending pop machine, No offer from the front desk for a less than satisfied stay.

Would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a getaway, especially off season. Ocean view was soothing as was the room. Staff very friendly and cleanliness of hotel five star. Overall five star rating.

I was in Cape May on a business trip. The staff was friendly and courteous. The dinner at the Blue Pig was delicious. I love historic hotels and this one was great. We'd stay here again.

We loved our stay at Congress Hall. The fireplaces were great to sit by. It is a very historic place.

The hotel visit for New year's was wonderful. I must add, however, that their restaurant, Blue Pig Tavern, is not one I would recommend. Earlier visits were very good but now the service is poor the food only fair and the prices too high.

My husband and I spent the night at Congress Hall Hotel in December. The hotel was decorated beautifully, the fire places were on, trees were decorated. The bar inside is warm and lively. Our room faced the ocean it was very clean and perfect. We really enjoyed our stay. I hope to do it again next year.

I booked the reservation based on customer reviews and was glad I did. We were pleasantly surprised at the like new condition of the room and the charm of an older hotel.

We had a WONDERFUL time. I am an architect and love the historical aspect of the hotel and site. Enjoyed the neighborhood and Victorian style homes/businesses. Truely relaxing. Everything that I could have asked for!!!!

Everyone at the hotel attempted and succeeded in meeting every need. A beautiful hotel and a wonderful town. We will return

My husband and I stayed at Congress Hall for a little mini honeymoon this past Wednesday and it was wonderful! The hotel itself is beautiful, comfortable and very clean! For the price paid I wasn't impressed with the service of this hotel. It's in a great location, the rooms are pretty and the sun lounger service are the pluses, also good cocktails in the bar. Bad points were the restaurant service (watch out for tips already included in your bill - got caught on that a few times) and the wifi service - which is free, […] however you have to get a specific login with your name and it constantly logs you out - extremely annoying. I expected a lot more from this hotel given the bill i paid before I even got there and was really disappointed. I wouldnt reccomend the restaurant at all - although the food wasn't bad you should avoid it and instead wander up the main street to the Washington Inn where the service was impeccable and the food even better!! Such a great hotel with so many amenities in a perfect location. Other than our room being slanted, we loved everything!

The perfect weekend. Great location, great service and great cocktails in the Brown Room.

I have stayed at other sister properties of this resort. and decided to give this a try. The pluses of the hotel are the beachfront chairs on the lawn, the shops, Tom's Folly (a coffee fix for all Starbucks addicts) and its location. It is a quick walk to other restaurants and shops. The negatives are (1) a long walk to the beach because you pass […] the pool, the lawn and a parking lot which means a long walk back to a bathroom (2) strict about a late check out but our rooms were not ready until well after the designated check in time (3) if you are going to stay past your check out there is no place to shower or really change and (4) lots of children in a small area by the pool. If you have stayed at other places and always wanted to try this go ahead. But if you have a favorite at Cape May stick to your original plans. Lees meer

A well run property in all respects. Just what we wanted after a long winter, We have stayed here before and will stay here again. Everything was perfect from the heated outdoor pool to the Blue Pig Tavern to the ocean view from the bathroom. Fun gift shop too.

The hotel is amazing! The stores are such a nice touch. The staff are so friendly and professional. You get a resort feel, with an amazing view of the ocean. I highly recommend this hotel. In addition, the restaurant and lounge bar add such a fabulous touch!

We found the hotel and room very, very noisy. Help was difficult to find. We did request, and were granted, a different room as our room was very noisy. The replacement room (in a different building) was very large and quiet. We did enjoy our stay after the switch. I would not recommend this hotel for a romantic getaway.

It's within walking distance to the shops and stores. --Very clean room, hallways, and lobby. --In-hotel events were nicely planned and fun. --Bar/lounge was quite lovely, though the in-house restaurant wasn't as great but fine.

We thought the Congress Hall hotel was beautiful, the service was great, the restaurant food was good, but it was very loud at night. Because this is a very old building, the windows are not sealed. You can hear everything going on outside (talking, laughing, carrying on, etc.). You can also hear all the noise coming up the stairs from the Cocktail […] lounge at 2am. Congress Hall has an incredible location. We had the beach directly across the road where umbrellas, chairs, towels, and tables were set up for guests. Lunch could be ordered and delivered. Excellent Hotel. This hotel does live up to the extra price you pay for compared to others in Cape May. The only complaint i have is the pool water should be cleaner.

Congress Hall was all I expected from the website and more. Service is impeccable - Staff is friendly, courteous, and very helpful. The hotel carries the Victorian style and charming character. It is right across the beach. Also, valet parking is complimentary to guest and 2 free coffee vouchers - very convenient. Our room was not that great. The bed was so uncomfortable that my husband and I had a difficult time getting any sleep for the two nights we were there. The pillows were very thin, not fluffy - my advice, bring your own. The bathroom needed maintenance - holes in the wall from where the doorknob hit, tub caulking was peeling, carpet was extremely worn. […] I wouldn't stay here again. The ambience and appointments are in keeping with the beachfront resort, a terrific combination of period charm and contemporary comfort. Attentive service throughout our stay, and the facilities for dining, fitness, and entertainment hit just the right note. The cocktail lounge is one of the best in this seaside locale.

We stayed at the Congress Hall for the second time in 2 years. The first time we had an ocean-view room, and this time we tried the a town-view room. The town-view room was much better for us because we didn't get the late-night noise from the weddings that go on every weekend there like the ocean-view rooms. Since we prefer to sleep with the windows […] open instead of with the AC on, the town-view was much better. Congress Hall is a great place with great pools and nice clean rooms. It has a nice charm to it.

great location in Cape May. although an old building was very clean and updated. went for a romantic weekend with my husband and enjoyed every minute of our stay.

Nice place to stay. Great nightlife and close to the ocean.

Got this hotel for about 1/2 off and didn't know what to expect. Room was large and very clean. Bathroom was very large as well. They set you up on the beach when you walk down, so no need to bring towels, chairs, umbrellas, etc. Pool was also very nice with a bar adjacent. Very happy with the hotel and the price paid.

Frends and family from accross the country joined us here to celebrate my daughter's wedding. The venue was perfect and everyone raved about the location, setting and the food. We continued the celebration at the Boiler Room downstairs and at brakfast at the Blue Pig Tavern in the hotel. The rooms were perfect and the ocean view was fantastic. If you want to sleep in quality comfort then spend the money to stay at Congress Hall; you will melt in the bed linens which are also available for purchase in their gift shop. The Cape Resort Group operate with specific standards and they live up to these standards. We had a great stay at the Congress even with cold and rainy weather. Room is spacious and looks onto the lawn, with diagonal view of the ocean. It was worth paying extra to have the view instead of looking out onto the street side. The Blue Pig is a great place to have lunch, food and service are both good. It was rainy during our stay, so we didn't […] make use of the beach (right across the street) or the pool. The spa was still under construction during our stay. Definitely recommend the hotel.
