We kwamen bij het hotel tijdens een heftige regenbui, en het eerste wat opviel waren de plastic emmers die her en der geplaatst waren om regenwater van het lekkende dak op te vangen. Het hotel - overigens werkelijk schitterend gelegen direct aan zee - is duidelijk op zijn retour, maar je kunt aan alles zien dat het in het verleden een heel mooi en charmant […] hotel geweest moet zijn. Wij hadden een kamer op de begane grond die heel ruim was, inclusief een groot terras dat uitkeek op een weelderige tuin met daarachter de zee, en voorzien van een gloednieuw rotan zithoekje. We had a wonderful stay at Ocho Rios in the Silver Seas Hotel. The staff has been very nice and gave good tips for Ocho Rios. The room was just perfect: large, direct view to the ocean, clean. The first clue that this hotel was going to be questionable was the fact that the local taxi driver could not find the hotel. Why could he not find it? Cause it is located at the end of a shady alley. Once we found it we were told to never go left or right when we exited the hotel rather go straight out to the main road. The staff were just there like […] the dated furniture; they were more interested in talking on their phones or to each other than to bother checking us in. Once we got to the room the views were amazing but the furniture looked and felt like they were found in the alley, brought up and Febreezed. The beds were thin and concaved so you got to roll into each other feeling every spring along the way. The pillows were actually random lumpy couch pillows in pillowcases and the "whicker" furniture they boast about on their website was falling apart and stincky! The pictures on their website are also misgiving; they must have been taken ages ago because the hotel does not look anything like them. I can see where this hotel was the "hot" spot 50 years ago but it is just old and falling apart now. Not recommended! Spend the extra couple of bucks and find something better. Lees meer

Hotel is located on a nice spot and is huge. We thought it was pricey for the comfort of room (lack of enough light bulb in room), outside was not maintained.Staff was helpful and pleasant.

This hotel is in dire need of proper maintenance and refurbishment . The mattresses on the beds in my room were far too worn for comfortably sleeping. While I stayed for my planned two days, I must say that my stay was overall disappointing.

Yes, it is an older hotel that needs some work, […] but let me stress to you: 1# IT IS A CLEAN HOTEL, 2) it is maybe a two star, but it's not falling apart around your ears either and 3) the staff is most pleasant, helpful and hospitable. It made me think of the times I stayed with poor country relatives. They might not have the newest or nicest, but the stay was gracious and cozy. The room was spacious albeit spartan. Don't go looking for the usual things #e.g. coffee maker, clock, iron, hair dryer, in-room phone or internet). The hotel has no entertainment crew, but there is plenty of entertainment in downtown Ocho Rios - either at locals' spots or at Margaritaville. All within walking distance. Bottom line...if this isn't your first rodeo and you want a clean, quiet place to stay while taking in the local sites, then give the Silver Seas a shot. We had a lovely patio that overlooked the ocean. We would watch the cruise ships coming and going as well as the party boats that passed each day on their way to Mohagany Beach. We had a very clean swimming pool to swim in with a nice sunbathing area as well. The bartender, Barry, was very nice and friendly. He made great Bloody Mary's. The maid service […] was excellent and efficient. However, they would take the towels and not replace them until later in the day. We did ask the desk clerk if we could get a second chair for our patio and a remote that worked on our TV and we did not get either of those things or an explanation. On the other hand, we did not have a refrigerator in our room, so they lent us a cooler so I would have a cool place to store my insulin. We enjoyed our room so much that if we go to Jamaica again, we will probably only stay at the Siver Seas. Also, the meals that we ate ate the restaurant were excellent. I really appreciated this place. It is inexpensive and its service is just as such. The rooms were clean. The beds were clean but the mattresses were super soft, too soft with very little support. If you are looking for a resort where you will be pampered, this is not the place. This is the place where you get to have a secure room with a place to lay […] your head and a bathroom. If you are scared of Jamaica, this is not the place for you. You are right in the heart of Ocho Rios, the shops and outdoor market are literally a block away. This seemed to me to be the place where locals and foreigners who have been to Jamaica before come. All the major resorts go to the reefs right off the hotels beach and there is a small private contractor there who will take you out for a fraction of the major resort costs. I really enjoyed the place outside of the beds being too soft. If you have some sense of adventure and are not scared of local culture, or even want to experience local culture, this is the place. If you have more money to burn and are scared of coming in contact with the real people of Jamaica, buying Jerk Chicken from a guy with a grill on the corner who has a thick JA accent, stay at the Ritz or Sandals or somewhere that your sensibilities will not be challenged. A very run down place in front of a spectacular reef. The reason for such a low rating is the result of the disrespect we received from Lenny, the operator of water excursions in the hotel. After consistently being hassled for days we rented a kayak. After paying, he presented us with a withered kayak, ensuring us of its quality and safety. After 30min […] in it we realized tape was floating next to the kayak. Lenny had used tape on the inside to secure the top half to the bottom. Within a matter of a minute we cap-sized, and the kayak sank. We lost several items including a camera. We did managed to drag the boat to shore, but we had to swim over shallow reefs; resulting in numerous gashes and stings (including fire coral). We washed up at Hermosa Cove, where the wonderful staff/owners came to our aid and helped us get back to Silver Seas. Initially, Lenny promised to return our money, but within ten minutes became extremely hostile and disrespectful, informing us he would not return our money. This argument occurred in the hotel lobby, and not once did the staff assist us, give us first aid, they just watch without a care in the world. After some time, in an even more deranged manor he claimed that the oars and life vests were missing and thus no refund. All a lie for we later returned to the beautiful Hermosa Cove, to thank the staff, and all the stuff was there. They informed us he had never come by. When we return to Jamaica we wont stay anyplace else, but Hermosa Cove. Lees meer
