I was in New York to see the typical tourist sights, and the Benjamin was in an excellent location to access everything I wanted to see. The hotel was next to a subway station for the No. 6 line, which was convenient for going up to the Met and down to Little Italy. The hotel was also in easy walking distance of another subway station to access different […] lines, so I found it easy to make my way around the city. The room was bigger than I expected, with a walk-in closet, but the bathtub was a bit small (and I'm a short female, but even I found the tub to be a bit short and shallow for a decent bath). But all in all, I am very glad that I chose to stay at the Benjamin, and if I ever travel back to NY, I would definitely choose the Benjamin again. Lees meer

The location was excellent for my purposes which was business meeting in Midtown. The hotel restaurant is expensive but worth it on a Sunday evening when there is live jazz. Food is excellent and service was attentive. I was a bit disappointed with my room, however. I liked the little kitchenette very much and the minibar was well stocked. But the room […] didn't seem totally fresh though clearly the hotel had been updated at some point. The room faced a wall and was stuffy. Carpet looked a bit tired. This was our first time at the hotel and we couldn't have been more impressed. Staff was gracious and welcoming. Room size amazing for a New York hotel. Great location in mid-town Will definitely be back. Thank you for a great experience.

The hotel is fine -- room was clean and even had a bit of a view, bed good etc. But I made the mistake of opening the bottle of water next to the bed -- separate from the snacks obviously for sale on top of the frig, and after drinking half of it saw the "$7" sticker on it. I resent hotels that try to fleece their customers so baldly. Most hotels are […] giving their guests a free water or two, on the theory I suppose that humans need water along with air to survive until morning and pay the bill....Will not stay here again for this reason alone. Only problem was the TV in the bedroom required a couple of visits from maintenance to get it functioning properly. Evidently, the property has done some upgrading to their TV system and still have a few kinks to work out.

First and foremost I must give big thanks to Mohammed the hotel concierge, he made our trip special...!!! Not only did he help us walk to (with great directions) or get us a cab in a snap of a finger, but he was incredibly helpful. We flew in from Miami Beach to watch the ball drop in Times Square. Thanks for Mohammed we not only got there in time but […] avoided taking a cab!!! The hotel staff at the front desk were great as well, kind enough to give us an extra 2 hours to check out. (It was national hang over day Jan 1st) We appreciated the amazing room service and impeccable room. I will definitely stay here again next time I'm in Manhattan. Formerly, this was one of our favorite hotels. This time, the room was shabby (a suite), the water pipes were broken (brown water in the kitchenette and no cold water in the bathroom) AND the street was closed in the morning so we could not get out car out of the garage across the street. I had a great experience at the Benjamin. I was traveling solo - my room was perfect size and style. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The location is great - far enough away from overcrowded areas (i.e. RF center, Times Square) but walking distance to the aformentioned places and theatre, restaurants etc... Wonderful to have kitchen space, hallway, good-sized bathroom, & desk with King Size bed. Only drawback was tile floor and wall in bathroom. I thought they were dirty, then realized it was the finish worn off. Renovation is needed but, other than that, it was perfect.

The staff was wonderful and the location of the hotel was perfect! The price we paid for the large room with a kitchenette was fantastic. We also loved having Geoffrey Zakarian's restaurant downstairs.

The Benjamin, unlike many other hotels, is amazing about cleaning your room - even if you've slept in very late, had the do not disturb sign on way too long, etc. Very impressive. And the restaurant downstairs is top notch.

front desk was nice, but i had to call 4 times in the course of 4 hrs for the dream dog stuff i requested for my pup. no robe included. the rooms weren't what i expected. kinda old and needs renovations. not staying here again...

This was our third stay at The Benjamin, and it did not disappoint. The rooms are luxurious, the pillow menus a novelty; location was great and we were able to check in early since our room was available.

We like the Benjamin - probably stayed there 6 or 7 times in past 4 years. The addition of the National restaurant/bar next door is a real plus. However, since this is a review, the following items caused me to rank cleanliness a 3: obvious cigarette burn on the ottoman in front of the sofa; sofa cushions and skirt have noticeable stains of either chocolate […] or soda; the ledge behind the bed had dust bunnies that had been there a while; a prior occupant must have opened a soda that sprayed onto the vinyl wallpaper in the bedroom and had not been noticed and cleaned off prior to our check-in. Seems like the exec. housekeeper needs to develop a more thorough checklist procedure. Other than that, the suite was very comfortable, nice view, great staff (as always). Would definitely stay here again, just a little surprised by the items noted, which I shared with the front desk at check-out. Lees meer

Room was shabby, decor tacky and space tiny. Faced a brick wall. Also not what we booked. Staff rude. Bathroom cramped and cheap looking with lousy products. Pictures of hotel are deceptive. Reminded me of something you'd expect near LaGuardia Airport. How on earth is this 4 stars?

On the positive side, the hotel is attractive from the outside and has a nice lobby and restaurant. However, the rooms feel dingy and clearly need updating. The hot water only worked sporadically.

Perfect Location! Two girls in early twenties, stayed for the weekend. Very comfortable bed- the sleep menu was awesome!!! The view wasn't very good from our room but we didn't care because we were out and about most of the time anyways, AMAZING location, we walked or took the subway all around the city. Very nice staff too!

Regular traveler to NYC. Selected this hotel based solely on the Expedia customer rating. Pluses of this hotel include the suites that are available and the kitchenette feature...this was very nice, and the price that I paid was very reasonable. No gripes there. The televisions were good quality LG HDTV's and movie picture quality was impressive with […] LodgeNet. The cleanliness and upkeep of the room was just average for NYC, with many items in the room needing either cleaning or a refresh. Specifically, the bed was somewhat lumpy, the furniture was damaged and aged, and the condition of the bathroom was just average (dirty vent in the ceiling, mold on the sink edges, and a shower that is in dire need of a curved rod to keep the liner from enveloping you). The carpets were dirty in places and an old gummy bear was resting peacefully at the foot of the nightstand when I checked in. The in-room HVAC units were the loudest I've ever had. I would recommend the hotel to a friend although with caveats and conditions :-) Lees meer

Everything was great...the lobby was a little basic and very dark,and the elevators are a little slow but only because the hotel is full. The staff was pleasing and room was great. My daughter and I came into the city for a girls weekend. The manager at the front desk gave us a room upgrade which was spectacular! Everyone was so nice and accommodating. One oddity was that the beds did not have a top sheet on them. We called the front desk and they sent one up within five minutes. I should mention that the beds were amazingly comfortable. […] I travel often and I have slept in some lousy beds in very good hotels. This was not one of them. This was our first stay at The Benjamin and we will go back when it fits our plans. It was an excellent location not too far from Grand Central and with subways on surrounding corners. We had cocktails at The National, located right within the hotel on Saturday evening. The following morning we had breakfast there and we definitely enjoyed. We met other […] people on Saturday evening cross town for dinner and a concert, otherwise we would have had dinner right there at The National. I liked there pillow menu, though my husband didn't find his ultimate squishy pillow. He'll have to try another selection from the pillow menu next time. Everyone was helpful on the staff. The room was of decent size and clean with a small kitchenette which would be handy if you were staying a few days. complete with microwave and small refrigerator. The room was terrible. Everything was grimy (phone, drawer handles, etc)., the tub had a permanent non-skid mat that was dirty and blackened, so I had to place 2 wash cloths for my feet so I wouldn't step directly on it. The bathroom had been caulked and re-caulked so that the caulking was very thick and dirty. The carpet had that sticky grimy feeling […] so I was never barefoot and wore white socks that got black from the carpet. I was shocked and disappointed. From check-in to check-out the staff went above and beyond the call of hospitality to make me feel like I was the most important guest staying at The Benjamin. Just a great experience from start-to-finish. From the moment I walked into the hotel I felt welcome and cared about. I had to call the front desk a couple of times and was answered promptly and my issues addressed equally fast.

We expected great things from this hotel based on the other reviews. The room was okay, but unfortunately, the design and location of the air conditioning box next to the bed could have been immensely improved. The noise in the summer from that contraption was unbearable. In addition, the concierge service was below par. We asked them to make a dinner […] reservation and the concierge confirmed it was made, but the restaurant did not have it in their system the night we went there. Luckily the restaurant was still able to fit us in. In a competitive market such as NYC, the concierge must be more conscientious and on-the-ball. On the positive side, the Pillow Menu was great, the sound box (for the IPod) and the TV with all high-def channels (very unusual to find in hotels) were great inclusions to the room.
