At Wind Chimes Boutique Hotel in San Juan

First let me acknowledge that this was our first stay at a Non-Branded hotel. So I was a little anxious about our upcoming stay. If you are accustomed to frills and thills, this hotel may not be for you. Since we did not know the City, we hiked a taxi to the hotel for $20 and when we arrived, I was actually pleasantly surprised! The location reminds […] me of an inner city midtown area with mixed culture, food and the beach. We arrived around 1:30 and a nice gentleman showed us where we could store our bags and told us to check out the neighborhood until 2:30 :-). This hotel is definitely a family, Mom/Pop establishment. We dined at a small local deli called Kimoli Cafe and it was the PERFECT Carribbean setting to the start of a nice vacation. There are quite a few local stores in the area and the locals were extremely friendly. We checked into Room 128, small but quaint. It would not have been comfortable with kids, at all. We showered and went a half block to a private Beach..Beautiful! We traveled using the City Bus (T5) into Old San Juan for $.75, 20 minute bus ride. We had dinner in Old San Juan which is alot more touristy and pricey. For breakfast, we dined at one of the BEST Bakery joints ever, Kasalta Bakery. No much English speaking, but AWESOME food. You can use the amenities in their sister hotel the Acacia, which has a hot tub and bar, both of utmost importance for a vacation in Puerto Rico. The hot tub wasn't exactly hot, but the air isn't that cold either. You're a block away from the excellent Ocean Park beach, and there's food and such in walking distance, though I'd rather be a little closer […] to the action, a little west in El Condado or right in Old San Juan. We loved everything about this place except we could not use the Internet in our room. This was a blessing and a curse. We had to go to the lobby to get connected which left us to only do what honeymooners do in the room. Everybody was so nice and we had a great time. Oh...and the beds are not premium USA standards. The staff are great and always take the time to help with directions and telling you how to work ac or find television channels or lift your absurdly heavy bag. it's clean and tidy and quiet, near ocean and their sister hotel's very good restaurant. All good things. I stay regularly.

Hotel is due for renovation: warned down, old paint, old dirty flooring. Bathroom was very small. Stayed for three days and room was not cleaned once. Constant hot water problems: you get into shower and by the time you soap yourself hot water disappeared.

Due to a sudden change of plans I found myself in San Juan for 2 nights. I did not have access to wi-fi en route so I phoned my family and said NO RESORTS and my sister found me the ‘At Wind Chimes Boutique Hotel'. I cannot tell you what an amazing place this boutique hotel is. My plane was delayed by several hours but upon arrival I was met by a lovely […] young lady who was so polite, charming and even offered to carry my bags to the room. There was no rolling of eyes or looking at her watch to see what time I was booking in at as per the usual reception staff at the larger resort hotels. The foyer was beautifully laid out with fascinating paintings on the walls and deep plush rugs on the floors. The Courtyard area en route to my room was right out of a Riviera film set...all white shuttered windows with bougainvillea blossoming everywhere. Enchanting. My room was lovely – a very large bed with crisp clean sheets, plenty of wardrobe space with a safe, TV and a hot shower – just what the doctor ordered. Later I returned to the reception and asked regarding any nearby restaurants and was informed about the 'sister' hotel Acacia’s restaurant called The Niche. WHAT AN OUTSTANDING restaurant - I have never tasted food so exquisitely prepared and the wine accompaniment was excellent. This was to become the only place I ate for my stay. During the day I read by a small but perfectly formed pool and later as the sun went down I drank wine at a small first floor balcony area. Delightful. All I can say is that in my opinion At the Wind Chimes is the best 'hotel' in San Juan - This is definitely not a resort - but a cute, beautiful oasis in the tower block hotels of San Juan. Will I recommend this hotel - YES - will be returning - ABSOLUTELY !!! Lees meer

We stayed for 5 days in January 2012. The basics were about what we expected - the room was reasonable in size, comfortable, very clean, and as quiet as can be expected. The beach is about a block's walk. Old San Juan is a short bus ride away. What we liked best was the casual, quirky charm this place just exudes. It's the attitude, the art on the […] walls, the quiet courtyard with its lush greenery and little tables. The best part was the daily visits from the handsome, suave hotel cat, Popo. Though we were mostly doing the tourist thing, we did spend one day just relaxing and hanging round. For better or worse, the atmosphere invites this. The hotel has a little onsite bar, though it was closed during our stay (the bartender had just quit). Minor quibbles: No system in place to reuse your linens or for recycling; they couldn't find anyone to set us up with a boat tour of Mosquito Bay on Vieques (but Lonely Planet took care of that); and the checkout clerk accidentally billed us again for the stay we'd already paid for through hotels.com. We did get our overcharge back fairly quickly. Tip: calling works better than emailing. Be sure to check the hotel's own website for useful info, policies, room types and so on. It's very clear and in English. They're also very easy to work with on the phone. We'll definitely stay there again. Lees meer

Room was small. Bathroom was small. No internet in the room even though the hotels.com guy said there would be. Rate was ok, close to a couple of good restaraunts and the beach. Can hop on a bus to get into old san juan, but you may have to wait.

We stayed at the At Wind Chimes for three nights. We stayed in room 104 which we dubbed the basement room. It was a nice big, clean room. The only complaints we had with the room were that the windows didn't have adequate covering and we could see and hear everyone at the pool. We were also awakened in the middle of the night to people moving furniture […] on the deck above our basement room. The location of the hotel was great, about 2 minutes to the beach and 10 minutes to the hospital district that had a casino and lots of restaurants, bars and shops. We also ate a couple of meals at Bebo's - nice no-frills restaurant with ample portions and good prices. All in all I would stay at the At Wind Chimes again. Lees meer

Nice hotel, employees are very friendly in this hotel and the sister hotel, Acacia. It is a little far from the tourist areas down Ashford, so if your going to stay here plan on renting a vehicle or expect to walk a lot.

Not what I expected for the price I paid but is was o.k. The sister hotel Acadia was nicer and up to my expectations.

it was my first time in PR and i wouldn't change my mind on the hotel that i choose

No frills hotel walking distance to Ashford Avenue & the heart of Condado. JImmy the bartender will take care of you specially during the 6-8 happy hour whre drinks are a bargain. If you look for value...consider this hotel or the Acacia (owned by the same company).

if staying for more than 2 days, i would recommend bigger room # 120. I got lucky. Staff was cordial "enough". Bar has no music...boring. Neighborhood seemed safe on Ashford & McCleary...don't venture far on foot south or east of hotel. gets "seedy" fast. Asked front desk and maintenance to move ladder away from my balcony. It was never done. (Not concerned […] for my personal safety at all.) First week in Feb. the humidity and heat was as bad as Miami in August. Lees meer

They gave me a room off the lobby front desk with an absolutely filthy bathroom-hair, urine, toothpaste marks, dust. No windows that opened. Run down furnishings, no closet. Maid came in to clean the room and told me that it was hard water that made it look dirty. I lifted up the toilet seat and showed her the urine and pointed to the hair on the porcelain […] and dried toothpaste mouth foam. She doused the place with straight clorox and I could not stay in the room as it had not ventilation. Dump. Dump. Dump! Lees meer

I had a great time. Clean place, good service, very close to a decent beach, and a short walk from Starbucks. Sold... I'd stay there again.

Great little hotel.. Not a lot of people which is what we like. One complaint,, they need to get beach chairs..

we only stayed one night on a layover. The staff was really helpful. the rooms were quaint and there was a cool bar that we didn't go to. The phone in the room didn't work, and we were offered a different room right away that we didn't take. A good experience for what it was. we would definitly go back.

This is a great room for money. Very close to the beach. Very boutique. There is some kind of feeling that I will never have if I stay at the other chain hotels. I love this hotel.

I stayed at the At Wind Chimes. It's a great place. The location is very convenient to the beach and Condado area. Great restaurants near by. I am planning to go back in Nov and At Wind Chimes will be my first option to stay.

Desde luego si te guías por las fotos de la web te crearas unas expectativas erróneas. La habitación q nos dieron tenia unas dimensiones aceptables, pero la cama, el ruido, el baño, la ducha, no creo q estén a la altura. La gente del hotel muy amable y tiene una mini piscina graciosa, pero las instalaciones necesitan una profunda reforma.

Hôtel propre et confortable mais loin du vieux san juan (obligation de prendre un taxi 40$ aller/retour pour y aller).

Para el precio cobrado, el servicio no fue el mejor. El hotel es simpático en infraestructura, sin embargo, los servicios no fueron acordes con lo estipulado en la oferta. El teléfono no funcionaba, no había ascensor para subir las maletas ni personal que ayudara con ello. La reserva se hizo en este hotel, sin embargo, a la hora de hacer el check in […] fuimos derivados a un alterno. La internet tampoco funcionaba, no se logró nunca la conección. Definitivamente hay zonas mejores donde hospedarse y con mejores ofertas. Lees meer
