The Beach Shack in Cape May

Booked this hotel for a wedding we were attending in Cape May. The good: excellent location, right across the from the beach and just down the street from the local sights such as restaurants, recreational activities, and pedestrian mall. The bad: The room, while visibly clean, was musty and drove our allergies crazy. The room was an efficiency unit […] with a living room, small galley kitchenette and separate bedroom, however, the only air conditioner was an old wall mounted unit in the bedroom. As such, the air in the room generally had a clammy humid feel. Our room also lacked some basics, as there was no room phone. You are definitely paying for the location with this place, the but I'm not sure you want to stay here for more than a night. Lees meer

we went for a long weekend from saturday afternoon till monday afternoon. we arrived around 6 pm. checked in, we were ground level right by the pool. (not huge, but it did the job) thought we were getting two queen beds, but got a bed and a pull-out couch. sister slept on it and was quite comfy on it. We had requested a move to ocean view the following […] day but changed our minds sfter not wanting to move further away from the pool. Rusty nail had great food and delivered drinks to your room, the beach and the pool. NJ law will not allow achohol on the beach, but the life guards turned their heads to it if you add your own as long as you cleaned up your own mess. The beaches were clean and because they are pay beaches, they were not crowded and no undesirables. also the water was so much closer than it is in like wildwood. (a mile away) After staying the 2 days we decided to stay for two more days. we will be going back again next year, we will definitly be staying at the beach shack again Lees meer

This was our first time at the Beach Shack and overall, we had a great experience. We have been to Cape May many times before, but this was our first stay here. The convenience of the location was superb, the beach service a welcome first for us and the staff was exceptional. The Rusty Nail added a great beach vibe with their outdoor bar, firepit and […] wonderful live music. My only dilemma was with the room. It was recently renovated, clean and the bed was quite comfortable, but I l felt as if the renovation was only half way completed. The bathroom could use a full update as could some of the furniture. Also we had 4 people and only one bed, so it was a bit cramped. If you have more than 3 people staying in a room, you may want to opt for 2 beds because the pull out isnt very comfortable (they never are!) The room could use a little updating and the bathroom was a bit small. We had some minor issues with the room, but the hotel staff came right out and resolved everything. They were very friendly and helpful. That being said, Location, Location, Location. The ocean was right across the street and the beach was spotless. Hotel beds and bath were clean, but facility is weathered as built ins are all splintered and crooked. They have updated the comforts tho and beds were new and great! Love white linen and duvets...fresh and CLEAN! NO PHONES> Not a problem for us with only one room and cell phones, but interesting to know. also Cape MAy charges to go on the beach... […] only 5 but good to know in advance. It keeps the beaches clean and free of riff raff people. Overall it was the perfect spot for us. Love the fire pit and live music in the evenings. Lees meer

Loved it! Ocean view, comfortable bed, walking distance to many things and the most friendly and efficient staff! Will definitely stay there again.

After reading a review of the Beach Shack in my favorite -- and trusted -- regional magazine, I was excited to learn that I could stay there at an affordable price through Hotels.com. I am always amazed at the magic of photography -- in person, it was not nearly as swanky as it appeared in photographs. That said, the room was comfortable -- my friend […] and I really enjoyed the plush bedding, and slept well. It was great to have a balcony right outside our door where we could leave sand-filled shoes and such, and a refrigerator in the room. The not-so-great: the bathroom basin had slow-moving water; the toilet was not firmly bolted to the floor, and the water pressure in the shower was poor. A well-functioning bathroom is ESSENTIAL on vacation -- especially with multiple costume changes taking place! Also, the microwave oven in the room didn't work -- as I discovered at 2:am when I attempted to reheat my leftovers from dinner (and, yes, I checked to see if it was plugged in). The highlights of the stay were the hotel's close proximity to the beach, their chair/towel/umbrella/food service at the beach, and the pristine swimming pool on the premises -- also with towel and food service -- and lots of chairs for lounging. I also loved the indoor/outdoor restaurant (the Rusty Nail) which had a lovely fire pit with plenty of comfortable seating (however, I could have enjoyed this amenity without staying at the hotel!) All-in-all, my stay was pleasant, but I would have been VERY upset if I had've paid the hotel's regular room rate -- twice what I paid. Lees meer

My husband and I wanted to get away. This was the perfect hotel. The rooms are spacious and clean. The microwave, fridge, coffee pot and extra sink was unexpected. The food and service at their restaurant was very tasteful and reasonably price. The accommodations for attending the beach was also unexpected. Good location. Rooms were clean but not fancy. TV and internet were very substandard. We'll try another hotel next visit.

We booked the Beach Shack for a weekend at the beach in late June. The location, service, and amenities were truely ideal for a beach getaway. It certainly lived up to our expectations. With Beach service that included towels, umbrella's, and chairs to the very cool Rusty Nail outdoor bar/restaurant. It was easy to stop by for a drink and some food […] before, during, and after the beach or just grabbing breakfast. We never got in the car once we arrived since we were walking distance to some good restaurants and shopping. The rooms had a sofa for hanging out and a huge counter with sink, fridge and very fresh and updated. Try a dinner at Martini Beach up the street for some outstanding food and views. Don't be fooled by the 2 star rating. It's only that way because its a smaller hotel but it has plenty to offer with the pool and Rusty Nail right on site. Lees meer

My wife, myself and my 3 year daughter said here for two nights. This was the perfect hotel for us. The ocean was right across the street, the pool looked pretty nice and the restraunt right below was perfect with the hugh outdoor firepit and great food. When we visit cape may agian we will stay at the beach shack.

We were pleasantly surprised with our stay at the Beach Shack. It was a relaxed atmosphere with remodeled rooms. It was decorated with a retro feel, and we felt we were back in the 60s. We even got help with our bags, but had to ask for it. Wished the bar was hopping with entertainment but we were there off season and the beginning of the week. Pro's: * location, our room faced the beach and was a convenient walk to major streets and stores * cool outdoors sitting area with lawn chairs and a fire pit (Rusty Nail also had a nice set-up facing beach) * the staff was very friendly and accommodating when available * room had counter space with cabinets of plates and utensils, a sink, microwave, […] coffee maker and a mini-fridge * complimentary wireless! Con's: - for price, expected something nicer - little details: dirty/old plastic cups, room looked partially renovated, broken window shades - walls were thin so you can hear neighbors - between bad live music at the open area and loud neighbors during prime evening time... can be a little annoying (but all did stop a reasonable time of around 9-10pm) Lees meer

liked: location just across street from lovely beach with free lounge chairs and umbrella; comfortable beds. didn't like: loud noise from Rusty Nail restaurant on site.

My husband and I just stayed there for our anniversary weekend. From the moment we got there, we just loved the atmosphere. It is very laid back and casual. Definitely a barefoot, bathing suit and shorts kind of place. The Rusty Nail (which is the restaurant/bar for the hotel)is such a fun place. They had live entertainment all weekend. We really loved […] sitting in the sand pit in the comfy adirondack chairs, drinking some icy cold beers and listening to the acoustic guitar player belting out some great tunes! Everyone was so friendly. The food was great and they give you ample portions. It is a very clean and comfy place. You will feel right at home. The renovations they have made are great and the towels and washcloths are so plush. It is directly across the street from the beach. No need for towels or beach chairs because they are provided for you. We loved the quiet and cozy atmosphere of the hotel location. Also within walking distance of everything. People expecting a 5-diamond hotel shouldn't stay here. They should go to the big fancy hotel just down the street. It's actually owned by the same owners, but costs three times as much. That said, the rooms here seem recently re-done, and our room featured two sinks outside the bathroom, as well as a separate bedroom so that a family of four could […] comfortably sleep there. There was also high-def TV and wireless Internet access (though you have to ask the front desk for the password). It's not luxury accommodations, but for the price, it's very clean, has an excellent location and decent service, is right on the beach, has thoughtful touches like HDTV and wireless access, and even has its own bar on-site. The room was clean and neat and the rate was inexpensive but the main reason i chose it was that they advertised a heated pool. Could not swin in it it was freezing cold. I would have paid extra at another hotel because of this. It wrecked my vacation.

In case you were thinking this is the same caliber place as it's sister properties - Sandpiper and Congress Hall - think again. This might actually be the worst place I've ever stayed in. No phones, ants everywhere, and they make up your bed as well as a 10-year old kid might. The music is loud from the outside bar into the wee hours of the morning; […] The shampoo bottles are filled with conditioner. The TV is so blurry it looks like it's straight out of the 1980's. Pros: 1) Great location across the street from the beach, and close to attractions and shopping. 2) Very good housekeeping, and nice staff. 3) Great bar and restaurant called the Rusty Nail on site (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and appetizers). Live music too! 4) Newly painted and furnished rooms. Comfortable/clean bedding. Cons: 1) No elevator, or baggage […] helpers. Bags must be hand carried yourself. 2) Small pool (but nice and clean). 3) Small rooms (but clean and comfy). Lees meer
