The Royal in Cancun All Inclusive Spa & Resort in Cancún

The resort is beautiful. Loved the pool, the beach the room. However, I would not recommend this hotel to a friend because I was very disappointed in the drinks. I feel for the money we paid to go to a five star resort we should of had top of the line drinks and food. They would not give Don Julio tequilla, they used the cheapest bar pour stuff that […] was like turpintine. The food was o.k. but not 5 star. The steaks at Maria Marie were 1/4 thick at best and full of gristle. We have stayed at other 5 star resorts (Palace's) where we've had great drinks and food therefore feeling we got our monies worth. We did not feel that at the Royal. The on-line check in and suite assignment is a joke. I stayed up till 12:01 a.m. to pick our suite but when we got there we were given a different suite. I had a confirmation for the one I picked but was just told oh well it's not available. So why offer the serivce if it doesn't work anyway? Waste of my time. Me, my husband, sister and brother in-law recently went to The Royal Cancun. We are already talking about making it an annual thing. We thought it was the best hotel on the strip! Food- amazing. Asiana was the BEST. WE went 4 out of the 6 nights. No problem getting in, no reservation needed. Marie Marie was great! Buffet was good. Breakfast at Spice […] is a must! ROSS at Spice was the bomb. Pool- SO WARM AND AMAZING> Need to wake up around 6-6:30 to get a good spot at the pool. BEACH- AWESOME. it was a bit wavy but that didn't stop us from walking along the coast. ROOMS- Immaculate. Comfy beds, great pillows, balcony was amazing Spa- was OK. access to the spa with sauna's and steam rooms was nice and we used that twice. We all got massages and decided it wasn't worth the money. Performances were great. Don't miss Wonder Years, that one rocked! Golf- Don't do it. Greens Fees are included, but carts and clubs are not... expensive and hard course. If you are a beginner, or intermediate... not worth the time or money. And if you go.. BRING GOLF BALLS! Gym: great for vacation! Had everything we needed! We just returned from five nights in Cancun. The hotel was clean, beautiful, and the service was very good. We paid for an ocean front room with the benefit of selecting your room on the online website prior to departure. The room selection feature was unavailble so we put in a request for a room on the upper floors. We had given the hotel all of our […] information during online check in and we needed to do it all over again upon arrival. We gave them times for thecleaning the room, turn down, newspaper delivery and the fact we we celebrating an anniversary. Nothing was done with any of that information. Our room was assigned on the second floor with view of people working out at gym on the entrance side and a view of people in the jacuzzi below from our balcony. We were told we would love the view. When we complained about the location, we were offered an upper level 7th floor room that would be available the next night, so we took it. Good news: great view of the beach/ocean and a view of sunsets from the hallway entrance. Bad news: bed was super comfortable in first room and upper floor room had body dents in mattress that made sleeping very uncomfortable. Our anniversary came and went without any recognition. Food was gourmet, nice choices some places better than others. Enjoyed most meals. Lobby bar: nice, but advertised as martini bar, wine bar, beer, etc. but in reality it was ONE bar. Lees meer

MSP Plane at 6am, at the resort by 1045 am! This was our 4th time at the Royal Cancun. We love that every room has a balcony with ocean front view. We enjoy breakfast on our balcony together every morning with great room service. The rooms are big and the baths luxurious--so nice, that we spend a lot of time in our room with movies, napping, and ordering […] food in. The restaurant food is good, with Jose at Marie Marie and our sommelier making a great last night for us. The tepenyaki table is always a treat. Hotel is very clean and well-maintained. Be strong in saying no to the gold card passport if you don't want to do the timeshare routine. This past time, they were a little more annoying. There's always a very international crowd which we enjoy, never anyone too rowdy.... Workout room is adequate, but for those that like space or more athletic offerings, it's a bit limited... The biggest issue is the noise at night. If you are in a room that is near the atrium they sometimes play VERY loud music until Midnight. If you want to stay up and watch/listen to it, then there isn't a problem, but if you want to turn in early you pretty much have to lay in your hammock on the deck until it's over to get any quiet! Or pack earplugs!!! […] We were unable to switch rooms because the hotel was overbooked as is. The other issue is the guests getting up super early and putting towels on chairs to reserve them. If you aren't the one's getting up early it may be hard if not impossible to find a chair by the pool during the day. People would put their towels on chairs and then not even use them all day! It was rude and I wish the hotel would make it a policy that you aren't able to do that so everyone has an opportunity to have a seat! The staff was beyond helpful and friendly. I felt like royalty. The all-inclusive is definitely the way to go. The one thing that was rather annoying is while we were sitting at the pool, they'd have ladies from the spa walking around to ask if we wanted to make appointments. Our room type described availablitiy to check in 2 days prior using their online check in and room selection. This service was not available when we tried to select our room. We could only put in a written request. The room […] we requested was not available the first night and we were moved the following day to an upper floor. Better view and more private. However bed was not as comfortable as the first bed we had. It was worn with dipps from previous occupants. Bars described online (wine bar, beer bar, martini bar etc.) are all the same bar! Enjoyed our stay, very good beach service, drink selection. Small cozy hotel, well kept. Forget about a spot by the pool unless you get up before the sun rises to put out a towel. The service and friendliness of the staff was excellent, as was the food and overall experience. This was our group's 4th year in a row to The Royal in Cancun. For a long weekend where you don't have a reason to leave the resort, this is the place to go.

Our 2nd time at The Royal. We had the most wonderful stay! From our flight, to the service, the cleanliness, the food, the weather! It was fantastic! Asiana/Hibachi bar is a must! Maria Marie has terrific food. We loved Spice and Pelcano's. It is nice to sit outside and enjoy a drink and food at Pelicano's. We also went to the Chef's plate this year, […] that too is MUST! They have a diff. menu every nite, so depends when you go, that is what you get 6 course meal and it was all very good. I can honestly say we did not meet any staff that were not friendly! We upgraded to a corner suite, our favorite! Jose T. our concierge was WONDERFUL! He met our every need! We enjoyed massages from spazual Night life is a bit quiet here but that was o.k. with us, the drinks and sun wore us out druing the day anyway. They do have activities tho. Just ask for an event schedule when you arrive. The indoor bar does have a drink menu if you are looking for idea's. The 24 hour lounge is a wonderful thing, it came in very handy in the afternoon or if we had late reservations for the evening. The pool water is warm, makes it nice to just hop in. The Royal now owns the hotel next door, so we can go to their rest. I would recommend this place to any couple who wants a nice relaxing,."treated like a king and queen" kind of treatment! Our overall stay was wonderful. Only negative was our observing the Bartender with his hands completely over people's glasses after fixing the drinks. Also noticed that a large variety of their foods are not cooked fully, but they do cook to your liking upon your request, we absolutely enjoyed our stay and will be going back next year.

We had a great time. The hotel, beach, and pools were fabulous. Most of the the food was just ok. But I still found enough good food. The hotel was filled but we never had a problem getting pool or beach lounges. We never felt crowded. I would definitely recommend the Royal Cancun.

Me and my wife had an awesome time. Don't see how anyone can give this amazing resort a bad review. Staff was friendly and helpful throughout. The only cons would be they told us that they didn't have a King bed available even though we reserved for one. But it wasn't a big deal, their two full size beds were able to be moved so we had an enormous bed. […] The other con would be they try to sell you a timeshare the next morning. But you can always say no if you don't want to sit through their presentation for 2 hours. In return they gave us 1000 pesos, a tote and a 4 day 3 night stay. They had 3 restaurants open when we went, a seafood one by the pool, asiana which is Asian food, and one with three restaurants in it. The food was amazing. We were on the 6th floor and it was extremely quiet and peaceful. All in all it was a very relaxing weekend getaway for us and would recommend to others to go. Lees meer

The hotel and it's frontline staff were all wonderful and genuinely eager to please, but there seemed to be a lot of pressure to be sold on their 'membership program'. Had I simply declined to be presented the 'program' I probably would have had the vacation of anyone's dreams. The only reason I agreed, was as a favor to one of the staff who had been […] wonderful durring our stay. The upper management I encountered in that presentation had a completely different objective. We were passed from one progressively stronger sales manager to another until they reluctantly let us leave. It soured the entire experience and should not have been part of an otherwise wonderful and much needed vacation from winter in Seattle. When you first walk in they meet you with a cool towel and glass of champane. The check in process took around 15-20 minutes. The hotel is well located in the Zona Hotelera, close to Flamingo Mall and La Isla Shopping Mall. The staff was incredibly helpful and attentive to detail from check-in to check-out. The pool area is great, with great views of the turquoise waters of the Caribbean sea. There you can relax in lounge chairs, poolside cabanas or beach cabanas. Even in […] high season it was not hard to find a place in the sun. The beach is gorgeous but the sea can get considerably rough when it's windy. If you really want to enjoy swimming in the ocean, maybe this is not the best place to be. Or maybe consider spending one day at their resort in Playa del Carmen, where waters are calmer and you can still eat and drink anything you want if you are a guest of The Royal in Cancun. All of the bars (including the splash bar) serves all sorts of drinks you could possibly want. The only thing I wish is that they had a little better wine. Of course that's being a bit picky and you can always order great quality bottles at an extra charge if you wish. Food was amazing in all of the restaurants, but I have to say that Maria Marie was the best. Even room service dinner was good. The room is superb, with a private Jacuzzi offering views of the sea. The king size bed can be filled with numerous pillows from the 'pillow menu'. If you are in a low floor suite and they offer you an upgrade, I would definitely recommend it. For 50 dollars total we were moved to the 5th floor, with much nicer views. Amazing hotel! Lees meer

The food is really good at all restaurants and buffet at The Royal itself but do not bother to go over to the next door hotel affiliated with The Royal (Grand Caribe) their restaurants were average […] at best. The spa was great and Perla was wonderful, she gave a great massage. Buy 3 services and get 30% off. The gym is free, kinda small but has all you need - 5 treadmills, 2 elipticals, 2 bikes, 4 Summit Trainers, free weights, circuit machines. They do a show/activity each evening at 9pm in the main room off the lobby bar. The show is okay but it is not Vegas. They don't skimp on the liquer in the drinks and their champagne is delicious. This is not a party hotel and is quiet by 11pm. Meet nice people here from all over the world. They will bother you to do the 90 minute timeshare meet and greet. Warning: this will take you more than 90 mins, more like 2-3 hours. They give you some "free" days at the hotel for participating but you still have to pay for the food/drink. Lees meer

Overall, our visit was fantastic and relaxing. Pros: Location is directly on the beach, short drive from the airport, food (even the buffet) is better than an avg. all inclusive, terrific service. Extremely clean and not too 'over the top' with what can sometimes be obnoxiously-loud activies. Cons: Check-in is too lengthly, with a definate push to upgrade […] your room and watch the time-share pitch. Maybe extra cranky since I was up at 3:00AM, but I would rather have the option to decline and avoid the dissertation. There could have been more adult activities. I am not sure this is really a 'con', but I will say the cooking class for lunch at Asiana was a nice surprise. The resort is good about toweling the chairs in the morning, but there is bit of an early rush to select your spot and claim it pre-dawn. Again, maybe not a con on the facility, but a bit annoying. My husband and I have traveled extensively, and for the location and all-inclusive status, it was right up there. We did not have spa services and ditched most nighttime entertainment, or excursions, so I can't comment. With Expedia we got a room upgrade and they included us in the honeymoon treats for our coming up 25th anniversary. Very, very nice. We did have a bit of a mix up at check-in, but if not for the SNAFU of a visitor photographing the oceanside room (we thought we were double booked), they would have succeeded in giving us a far better room than planned for the night. From the lobby check-in to our suite everyone was super helpful and only seeked the best for us. The food was amazing and the ambiance along with all the parties were amazing! I cannot wait to go back! The Tuesday night beach party was a lot of fun. The best part: THE BEACH/POOL BUTLERS and upgrades are highly recommended!

This was our fourth trip to the Royal in Cancun, and as always it was fantastic. The staff are always eager to please and be as helpful as any persons can be. The only draw back is that we had to leave, wishing we had just a few more days to stay. We just can't praise this place enough.

The hotel was very nice. It was clean, beautiful, and the rooms were very good. Not a ton of night life going on at the hotel for say people in the 20-40 age bracket. When we got their we had to wait an hour for our room to be ready. At the end of the hour, they told us that room would be ready in another hour. At the end of that hour it still wasn't ready, we finally got our room but only after that I suggested that they give us a free upgrade. They found different room at that time for us. Beautiful property, but the overall rating for the hotel fell down a bit. The lack of replenishment of food in the Spice Restaurant and the 24-hour lounge was surprising. Coming down for breakfast, the eggs looked all dried up. The cooked to order food was wonderful. The 24-hour lounge suffered the same issue, some of the food was left too long and […] looked dried out. The condition of the room was still very nice, but the leather on the bed frame was torn and the desk had some extreme wear on the drawer. These are small things, but I never saw these problems on our previous 2 visits. I also noticed that the uniforms on some staff members were dirty, tight, or way too big. My impression of this hotel started off on a bad note - check in was a bizarre drawn out experience, I was there early ( noon -ish) and rooms were not available, and no attempt to speed up the process. Evidently - magically - all rooms are cleaned at exactly 4, and not a minute before. While there i would usually go the Spices buffet.... seemed to have […] the most 'normal' food. Went there 3 or 4 times before I realized there was a hostess to seat you - she was usually talking with the chefs or other staff... other guests told me just to seat myself... just easier. The food was at best OK... I was there for 3 nights, longer and it would have been extremely boring eating there. Excellent resort and terrific value! We spent a week during the holidays and it was beautiful. The resort is very well maintained and the amenities were first class. The only complaint we heard was that the jacuzzis weren't very hot. We spent time in the pools and on the beach with no complaints at all.

Step off your private patio into your semi-private pool (shared with 4 other rooms), relax in your own lounge chairs with a view of the main pool and the beach but still like being in your own private area. Easy access to all activities right off your patio. Go see the people at the […] Best Day Travel desk (inside the resort) for the best excursions - Snorkel Advendure!! I would not recommend the snorkel trip they sell you at the activities cabana down by the pool. The food on-site, while prepared with some flair, was not very good. Not unusual for all-inclusives. The facility was beautiful with a fantastic pool. The shows, and entertainment in general, were great. Service provided by the staff was superb!!! However, we would not classify the food as outstanding. The food was more on the quality of cruise ship food, in other words plenty of it, but mediocre in quality.

The staff are very friendly, the facility/building is beautiful and in great condition, and there is a great selection of restaurants (besides the typical buffets at most resorts). Second time we have stayed here. First time we were wowed and would have given it a 5! This time, as you will see other people complain, you book a certain room, have a voucher for an upgrade, same old story.......The room you booked and paid for on Expedia is not the room you get when you check -in. We were celebrating my son's engagement, notified […] the hotel twice, with no response. They were given a room with 2 double beds as were my husband and I. They told us they could move us all the next day but had to repack and have our things ready by noon, and the new room would not be ready until 3:00. When you are only there a few days, it is such a hassle to have to keep packing and unpacking and planning around room change times, etc. Why can't we just have the room we booked and paid for on Expedia. Also, there were no perks this time. At least once per stay, our room was filled with rose petals on the bed and in the hot tub. Out of 3 rooms in our group, nobody received that even though we were supposedly upgraded. DO NOT EVER let them talk you into upgrading for a fee. You can not tell a difference in the rooms and they are all ocean view rooms anyway. Next year, we will try another property. Food also was a let down this time. Always had to make a reservation and 1/2 the time it was very late or very early. You would get to the restaurant and it would be 1/2 empty!! Lees meer

The hotel was clean and the rooms were nice. We were forced to pay more money to upgrade to a room that had a king size bed, because we were told they had no other rooms available. This upgraded room happened to be right next to a construction site. After not sleeping for 2 days because of the construction, we requested to change rooms. We had to fight […] with the hotel to get a refund on the upgrade. Originally, we made our reservations on Expedia for a room with a King size bed, but were told that a king size bed was not available when we arrived. Their customer service is severely lacking. We paid for a romantic dinner on the beach because we were offered a 'special' rate. It was not romantic, it was a few tables scattered on the beach and to top it off the food was TERRIBLE. Since we were still hungry, we went to a tapas place and that food wasn't good either. We played golf the following day, and another person that we played with agreed with us that the food was terrible. We advised the hotel's concierge about our bad experience during our so-called romantic dinner on the beach, and they did and said NOTHING. During our whole trip we ate at a restaurant called Spice for Breakfast and Lunch, which had almost the exact same menu the whole time we were there. For dinner we decided to spend the money and go across the street to a restaurant called LORENZILLOS. It was expensive but the food was great. Stay away from beef products! Lees meer

The Royal was recommended to us by someone who has stayed there for the last 5 years. After the recommendation and looking at the hotel on the website we decided to make our reservation. The hotel and staff was amazing! You can tell that management and staff work very hard to make sure you have all that you would need and always accessable. The massage my husband had the beach was awesome and my ancient stone massage was so wonderful to have on my birthday. The beach and grounds were very well attended as well. The view from any room […] is excellent. The transfer company Best Day that expedia uses for the trip to and from the airport was excellent and well worth the expense.
