The Thames Hotel in Maidenhead

We needed a hotel for a night in Maidenhead and stayed at the Thames hotel along the river and a 15 min walk to town. The hotel had new carpet and was recently painted, as it still had a slight paint smell. The room was a good size, clean, and had tea & cocoa available in the room. The only negative was the ceiling in the bath, just above the shower […] head, which was sucomming to dampness, as it didn't look to be protected from the water sprayed on it. We loved all the old pictures of the hotel & town from its beginnings in the late 1800s, which hang on the walls throughout the hotel. Lees meer

Daytime crew were friendly and accomodating.We arrived from London Heathrow late and exhausted. 1st night crew man didn't answer a few questions about the schedule for following day and we knew we might sleep in since we had overextenced our time frames so far. The rooms weren't very difficult to find if you worked at the hotel or lived there, however, […] he simply pointed to the general area. of our room. We found it by walking down hallways, up and down stairwells etc. He may have had the courtesy to show us the room within some reasonable proximity. We asked him for the instructions for the remote on a telivision as we thought an hour of news might be interesting. He shrugged us off and simply said, "there's 5 channels, that's it." Next morning, the daytime staff told us which menu was used to access a complted direct TV line up with over 30 programs, not that we were TV nuts, just thought it seemed unlikely only 5 channels in a seemingly progressive place as Berkshire. MOST IMPORTANT: Time to check out, the next clerk tried to RECHARGE US AFTER WE HAD ALREADY PREPAID THROUGH A BOOKING COMPANY ON THE INTERNET. We actually were fortunate to have had our receipt which he was surprised to see us offer. We managed to get out of there without paying twice. Lastly, since no ice was available except at the bar, we asked for a bucket of ice. No problem, except there was a cigarette butt floating in the bucket. Service poor, location great. Lees meer

Room: The widow didn't close and the headboard fell off the wall. There were only two free sockets in the whole room. The coffee cups were tiny. The bathroom window was unglazed with only a thin net covering it and the room door was not lockable. I have stayed in B&B's with better room quality and better service. Restaurant: The starter was well presented […] and nice enough to eat, however, the main course, a mixed grill, looked like it had been thrown together in a hurry. The meats were dry and chewy and there was a partially grilled greasy unseeded red pepper. The salad consisted of a handful of dumped curly lettuce, and a huge tomato cut in half and thrown onto the plate. Dumped on top of the meats was half a whole lemon which was hard and impossible to squeeze. The chips were lukewarm. At least the sweet, a chocolate pyramid mousse, looked and tasted nice, though it was a little strange that the cardboard base had not been removed before it had been put on the plate. The waiter service was poor, I was not lead to a table and I had to wait for the menus. Communication was difficult as he appeared to only speak broken English which lead to some confusion over the drinks. He was not at all attentive even though the restaurant was not busy. Checkout: This took over twenty minutes as they had to redo my bill three times. The stated reason being was that they didn't normally deal with online bookings and didn't know how to. The staff members were very polite, pleasant and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. The hotel is conveniently situated for visiting Windsor , Eton and othe Thames Valley destinations if one has a car. The decor and fittings are generally tired and some redecorating would add to the ambience.

A nice enough pub/bar/restaurant/hotel combo on the river. Staff were on the whole very pleasant, although the guy on reception in the morning could have smiled more. Bar food and breakfast were very acceptable. Not the easiest walk up to the 3rd floor with cases on fairly narrow staircase. Lovely hotel, beautiful views of the river and excellent on-site restaurant and bar

I was surprised at how nice everything was about this hotel! Yes, it is over 100 years old, but it was really nice, especially for the price! The staff were especially helpful and upbeat. The room was larger than most I've had in England. I expected that for the economical price there would be some concessions somewhere, but I didn't experience any. […] The breakfast buffet was great, and dinner was outstanding too. My room had a view of the Thames River and a picturesque bridge. I don't know how I was so fortunate to have such a good view. I don't know if every room has as nice of a view, but mine was great. The bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was a good size and modern. The TV was small, but there were lots of channels to choose from AND I wasn't there to watch TV. Like other reviewers have said, there is no elevator. But the highest rooms are on the third floor. If someone is disabled it would pose a problem, otherwise it was no big issue. Parking is free and there were always more than enough spaces available. Sometime in the night they secure the parking lot. I was concerned that they might be grumpy about letting me out at 3:30 am, but they had a great attitude. I continue to have great experiences with the hotels I've booked through hotels.com. THE ONLY DRAWBACK TO THE THAMES IS THE LACK OF AN ELEVATOR. THE FOOD IN THE ITALIAN RESTAURANT AND THE PUB IS EXCELLENT; SERVICE OVERALL VERY GOOD; LOCATION REASONABLY QUIET AND RIGHT ON THE THAMES RIVER. A VERY PLEASANT STAFF; ONE OF THE NICEST HOTELS WE'VE STAYED AT. THEY HAVE BEEN SEEKING PLANNING PERMISSION TO INSTALL AN ELEVATOR FOR 6 YEARS!

cheap,brilliant location right on the Thames. quiet location. book it

Overall the Hotel was great! The room had some cobwebs, but was nice and roomy. The Italian restaraunt had very good food.

Fin beliggenhet med utsikt over Thames. Serviceinnstillt og hyggelig personale. God engelsk frokost, trivelig restaurant og bar med uteplass.
