The hotel staff was very friendly, the hotel was very clean, location was great and would definitely stay here again.

Good location, room really really small. We were only there one night so it was ok but there wasn't room for us both to open our suitcases and still walk around the bed to the bathroom. Personnel were helpful when asked but not friendly or proactive in the least. Being our first time in New York i think it was the best decision to stay in this hotel.It is located in a very good area with the subway station right around the corner and there are a lot of restaurants, pubs, bars right next to it!Broadway St is just about 3-4 blocks away which you can easily walk and go shopping.The area is really friendly and all […] you could need is very near you. First, I would stay here again. It 3 short blocks to the subway. It is easy to find once exiting the subway. It is close to Little Italy, Chinatown and SoHo. That being said, the […] rooms are small. I was travelling alone and was not planning on spending much time in the room, so it was fine for me. The hallway into the room was about 6x3 ft. Off the hallway was the bathroom. It had a very nice shower (shower only, no tub) that was about 2x3 ft. The floor area in front of the sink/toilet was about 1x2 ft. I had a double-sized bed. The floor space around the bed was about 2 ft. in each direction. There was a shallow closet and a cubby hole under the closet. The wall with the window was covered, floor-to-ceiling and wall-to-wall, with a curtain. The bed was relatively comfortable, for a hotel bed. I would not want to sleep on it for an extended time. Temperature was controlled by a thermostat on the wall that let you select the actual temperature you desired, not just heat and cool. Breakfast is in a room in the basement. There are a few two-person tables, some nice couches, a TV and 2 or 3 computers. Breakfast was a combination American/European breakfast. Rooms are small but modern and cute. Bathrooms are modern. Lobby not as impressive as pictured online. This hotel is clean, hip, and modern. I was surprised how small our queen room was at first but it turned out to be just fine for the two of us. Our bathroom had a glass wall. Luckily, I was with my longtime boyfriend otherwise it would have been a little TMI. The staff was nice. I stay in NYC a lot and found the young women at the front desk to be […] the most informative I have come across. The continental breakfast was better than the average. An added plus-there is a Whole Foods Market a short block away. One suggestion-it would have been nice to have a coffee maker in the room or coffee/tea in the lobby. This boutique hotel was very small which was ok for me because I'm tiny and was traveling alone and only staying one night. The housekeeping staff hadn't cleaned the bathroom floor or dusted the wood trim in quite a while. Considering the fact that the bath was 4 by 5 feet, it should have been spotless and taken a couple minutes to maintain. The bed […] was comfy and I enjoyed the glass shower. Great place to stay for a short amount of time! The hotel staff is so helpful and friendly. Whenever I needed something they were there. Complimentary breakfast! Which was waaaay more than bagel and cream cheese. Found through Hotels.com, looking for a value stay for five days. Reviews indicated a cool hotel with the requisite small but functional cool rooms. Met my basic needs for the weekend; quiet, convenient and comfy. Hotel is basic, few amenities and room was sure small, but rate was good. Would likely stay again if rate stays competitive.

The room was small, smartly appointed and better/larger than a cruise liner room. It was remarkably clean and the soaps/lotions were exceptionally high quality (Bulgari) Staff was responsive, courteous and respectful. My first night was horrible -- the promised internet didn't work, the front desk wouldn't answer, I had to make a trip down in my pajamas to get service, and even then, it took an hour and resulted in a dsl cable. Then they woke me up at 5:30 am asking if I had inquired about pizza delivery! Management was very apologetic though, send complimentary […] goodies, and fixed the internet while I was out. We stayed here overnight to attend a play in the area. It was very convenient for driving in and out of Manhattan. Lots of great restaurants and shops in the area to explore. Service and the continental breakfast were fine. My one complaint is that one of the walls to the bathroom was made of glass and did not have any kind of a shade! Sure, it was […] frosted, but you could still get a good picture of whatever someone doing in there. Our room was tiny, so the one place to sit in the room was on the bed, with a view of the bathroom. This feature also sucks when someone has to get up in the middle of the night and wake the other person up by turning on the lights. Super nice people and a great room right in a great spot to wander.

The Hotel East Houston, has an excellent location on the lower East Side, close to so many great things in NYC. Since that was the main purpose of my recent trip there with my girlfriend, I can't really complain. However, the quality of the accomodations was slightly disappointing. There is literally a marginally frosted window to the bathroom in order […] to provide more natural lighting. However, it gives an awkward view into the bathroom when the bathroom light is on. In addition, there was no provided iron/ironing board, and I had to go to the front desk to have it brought up. Finally, the Sunday continental breakfast (with no toaster and almost all the food was gone by 8:30 AM) was awful, I shouldn't have even bothered to go into the cellar to get it. I'm glad we went to Katz's Deli a couple blocks away. Overall the hotel staff was friendly and responsive, and the bed was clean and comfortable. Conveniently locagted for my purposes. Free wifi worked very well. Reception extremely helpful with some special requests. Room was a small with limited closet space and no place for my suitcase. Bed was comfortable and bathroom well apointed and modern.

Room was MUCH smaller than photos indicate. Barely 2' around the perimeter of the bed. Nil ammenities. Not worth the $$$. Stay at the Rivington or Thompson Lower East Side

Small rooms, but they were clean and the location is fantastic. One small complaint: The A/C didn't work very well. We have it turned on (tried on & auto) and it would kick on for a few minutes and then off. It didn't really cool the room, a bit uncomfortable.

The hotel was great! The location was next to the F subway. Dynamic neighborhood, great bars and restaurants, friendly staff, decent continental breakfast. For the rate I paid I was pleasantly surprised! Two thumbs up :)

I'm pretty surprised by all the positive recommendations of the Hotel East Houston. I was expecting the rooms to be closet like (they are, claustrophobics beware), but I was unprepared for the uncomfortable, too-small bed. I'm 5'7" and my feet were practically dangling off the end. The mattresses are paper-thin and very still. The rooms are also very […] noisy - you can hear everything going on in the halls. The wireless internet was also spotty. if your looking for a smart and stylish boutique hotel at agood price, this is it. Rooms may be slightly smaller, and breakfast more basic (though you can have as much as you like), but the comfort, decor. cleanliness and friendliness are exceptional. Fantastic roof garden too. 5 *****

this hotel is conveintly located in the east village in mahatten..easy access to subway..(across the sstreet)..will stay there again..surprised by the am breakfast..more than adequate..clean sheets and bathroom..friendly staff.

I stayed for four nights as a base for a boozy weekend with friends. If you've read the other reviews on here you should pretty much know what to expect: the room was small but comfortable and clean, the bathroom was relatively spacious, and again, clean. Wardobe was only really big enough for three hanging garments which isn't great but there were […] pegs elsewhere in the room so I'm sure reception would give more hangers on request. Bed was comfortable and clean and even though I was on the first floor the double glazing meant the noise from the street really wasn't that bad. Staff were friendly and the breakfast (which is mainly bagels and pastries) was useful, as were the three free computers in the basement for internet access. In terms of location I hadn't realised what a good spot I'd picked until I'd got there. It's only a five minute walk to Broadway, with Hollister, Crate & Barrell etc right there on the junction with East Houston. Greenwich Village is about a 20 minute walk and Union Square a similar distance. It's quite an eclectic area, with East Houston being a busy street, a playground opposite, and a bunch of bars, cafes, and fast food outlets nearby, ranging from the edgy to the sketchy, but all in all it seemed perfectly safe and at no point was I worried about returning to the hotel on my own. I would definitely go back and would recommend it to others, especially at the hotels.com rates. NB For the fellow non-New Yorkers - it's pronounced 'How-ston' and not like the city in Texas... The hotel common areas were nice and the staff was friendly and helpful. I checked in a little early but my room was not ready. The staff took my bag and moved into the room for me while I was off for my meeting. The room was very small, but comfortable. Bathroom was clean and everything worked well. For the price, we really liked the hotel. Small room but laid out very very well. Hotel staff was friendly and courteous. We needed some ice, (they don't have an ice machine) and they went out and got us some. It's a great location if you want to visit Chinatown, Canal Stree and even East Village. The hotel was in a great location. The rooftop terrace had amazing views..would be great if they had a bar serving food and drink. Some of the reception staff could do with a refresher on friendly and helpful customer sevice... some staff were rather surly and aloof!
