Castle Wood Cottages in Big Bear Lake

THE "CONS": very 1970's feel, in need of some upgrading and repairs. Mattress and pillows were clean, but not great quality. VERY cold in room upon arrival, although the little wall heater did its job after awhile. THE "PROS": very cute, different, imaginative and wonderful grounds. The location is conveniently located 3 blocks from the village... right across the street from the local fire station. Parking is great because it's right next to your room. The Robinhood & Marian cottage was a very interesting stay. It was creatively composed including vines and knight decor to fit the theme. The room included a hot tub & cable tv with DVD player, very cozy indeed. No complaints really, except hot water doesn't run for very long in the hotels efforts at conservation.

look bigger at the pictures . it small room .cuzy and warm . we been in the indian foreset ,very romantic ..

Had fun! The themes are great and the rooms are fun.

We stayed in the Gone with the Wind cottage which was rustic but in a very romantic way. After a day of skiing, the inroom spa was awesome. Already set up for a romantic dinner by a crackling fire. MY HUSBAND AND I PLANNED OUR FIRST BIG BEAR TRIP THIS JANUARY WE STAYED AT THE GONE WITH THE WIND THEMED HOTEL ROOM IT WAS VERY COZY WE DEFINITELY WILL BE GOING BACK ITS PERFECT FOR A COUPLE VERY ROMANTIC! LOCATION IS GREAT WALKING DISTANCE FROM THE VILLAGE AND VERY CLOSE TO SNOW SUMMIT! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED :) PRICE IS SUPER AFFORDABLE

We stayed at this hotel for one night and that was TOOO much!!!. The bed was horrible and then at 1 AM the toilets started to gurggle & sputter & over flowed. The sewer backed up into the shower. Since it was so late (early AM) and Cold (9 degrees) we did not have the courage to move rooms. When I brought this up to the manager in the morning and asked […] for some kind of renumeration, I was informed that we should have called her, left our semi-warm bed and moved to another room. She would not consider giving us any money back. I had to call Hotels.com, who ultimately got me a really small refund. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone anytime!!! Lees meer

We stayed in the gone with the wind cabin. It was nice. Makes for a fun get away. We will go back.

We stayed in the Indian Forest room which was a good size with a wood fire (wood bundles are available in the room to buy). The kitchenette was just a fridge with a freezer compartment and a microwave plus two cups, two plates and a set of cutlery each. The bed was comfy and the jacuzzi is interesting - the water comes down from the wall like a waterfall. […] The location is excellent and the owner was really friendly when he knocked on to check we were ok (keys were left in the door on arrival). We stayed in the Antony and Cleopatra room and found it quite charming. No issues with cleanliness as others have mentioned, and the bed was quite comfortable. The only issue we had was the hot water did run out before filling the jacuzzi, but it wasn't bad. We just kept adding more hot every 10 minutes or so. We stayed at the Crystal Cave, and loved it. It was soo cozy. We loved the fireplace, and the decor. It was perfect for a quaint little weekend away. The cottages were located just a mile away from the center town of Big Bear. We couldn't have been happier with our stay. Thanks!

Quaint, quiet, nice proprietor...a little aged, not completely cleaned...hot water ran out while filling jacuzzi tub...had a nice time

Privacy was great. But housekeeping needs to do more thorough cleaning and vacuuming. But nice friendly service.perhaps it was just our room. Costumes need to be washed.

MY HUSBAND AND I STAYED THERE FOR THE WEEKEND AND STAYED IN 2 DIFFERENT ROOMS. ARE STAY WAS GOOD HAD A COUPLE THINGS THAT NEEDED TO BE TENDED TO. (NOTHING SERIOUS). LOVED THE WHOLE ATMOSPHERE AND THE CABIN THEMES. LOOKING FORWARD TO GOING BACK IN THE SPRING AND GETTING THE BIGGER COTTAGE FOR OUR BIRTHDAYS.

Free-standing little cottages with a theme. The Pirates Quarters was really done nicely inside. A little worn around the edges, but well-designed and comfortable. Loved the jacuzzi tub and fireplace. Located in a very quiet setting yet close to everything.

Choose any room. Every room is different. We stayed in Gone with the wind... 2 story cabin all to ourself.

Loved the room theam and ambiance would love to see all the cottages. I give it 2 thumbs up ...

Gone with the wind is my favorite movie and the room made me feel like I was part of the movie. I enjoyed my stay very much!

The room was generally fine for the price, and convenient to Snow Summit and restaurants. The room was pretty small but well cleaned, except for a slight unpleasant smell. It disappeared after I left the windows open all day. While driving around Big Bear, I saw places that displayed much better prices than I got here. if you like the theme rooms done on a budget no AC and only one small window that opens (summer nights are cool though), Double size jacuzzi and an office that opens at ten in the morning and closes at 6 this may be your kind of place. Definitly not your generic motel. I'd stay there again. Tip don';t eat at the Everegreen a complete rip off

This has been one of the best hotels I've ever stayed at loved the theme and location me and my wife stayed there over the weekend and only think I could say is best. Hotel ever!!!!!

We loved it. We are a young couple, the cottage was well which in our price range and was more than we expected. The rooms are all themed, which made the stay that much more special. We stayed in the King Arthur Cottage.. this room this not the biggest, but it was very cozy and comfy. Super romantic !!!

This place was absolutely Great for a cozy two person getaway. They are seperate cabins with a theme and jetted tub and large fireplace. Will be where I stay on my next trip.

Cute rooms of themed cottages. Lots of amenities... "travel package" of assorted toiletries including free samples at hotel office and room - unique idea. Fun and interesting decorations made the stay more fun. Furniture and furnishings were arranged well in a small area with a fridge, microwave, coffee maker.

My husband and I were looking forward to a quiet get away in the mountains. We stayed in the Indian Forest room, which was small, but clean, though a bit "worn-out." The main problem is that these cabins do not have air conditioning and while it was not sweltering, it was hot enough to be uncomfortable. I could not sleep, and in fact only got maybe […] 2 hours of sleep due to the lack of air conditioning. They provide a box fan in the room, but having a noisy fan blowing warmish air on me is not really acceptable. Also, the beds are old and have no support. What can I say, it is not a terrible place to stay, but if you are looking for something more upscale or modern, do not stay here. Best part was the fact that there was a hot tub in the room. Very private. Nice owners. They really need a new housekeeper. Everything was full of dust. I had to clean out the tub before I used it. The carpet needed to be vacumed. They should put in new carpet, Because it looks very old. The smell was not so great. We have always enjoyed staying here, it is our 4th time in the last 8 years, and we have come at different times of the season. So it has been nice to see it in all kinds of weather, sun, snow and rain. We love the jacuzzi in the room as well as the fireplaces.
