The hotel is very runned down and it seems like a house from the 1950s. If you book at this hotel, be ready to be disappointed. They had stated free parking if there were any available, but when I got there, their parking lot was empty and asked fro $15 to park my car. After I told the lady at the counter that the website stated free parking, she said […] "its a mistake". Also, the hotel says that theres free breakfast, but they dont even have a kitchen.... terrible hotel to stay at. Spend the extra $20 and get a decent hotel room so you dont get disappointed. This hotel was very inexpensive. I did not need anything fancy, and nothing fancy was provided. When I need a cheap place to stay in a pinch, I would go back again. I'll say this - I felt compelled to check the sheets for bedbugs, but I didn't find any, so that's good, right?

This is gotta be the worse hostel in the planet .. you will be seeing the bed bug in your eyes just look for it .. im not kidding .. i have bed sheet i put it to sleep on on my own and still bug went thru and got bit on my face twice .. so unless you not planning on sleep in there i mean use it just like storage go for it other wise DON'T DO IT

Lousy customer service. Was given a room with no heat, smoking (even though I'd requested non-smoking), dirty floor carpets, one tiny towel, and just smelling of disuse. I had to bail out of that!

It was, therrible... I have reserved one room for one nigh and payd online before i was in toronto. When I have get to the hotel, they give me, ugly room, where was, full trush, dirty toilet, and bed sems like, some peoples was in before few moments.. They give me, another room that was clean, but I really have bead feeling there, one way for that hotel […] looks like, and for that, witch persons was there. Bed bugs, stained sheets and smelly.... Stayed better places in the countryside in Africa!

If you found this "hotel" looking for a good deal skip over it. This place is more of a hostel then a hotel. They don't advertise themselves as anything more but it is still a bit of a shock. It was very dirty and uncomfortable.

I've been home three days since leaving this hotel. And I have many bumps on my legs, my arms and my face from bed bug bites, from the bed i slept in, in this hotel. I will never stay here again

Spartan I can deal with, but not filthy. The surfaces of the bedside table and tv stand were sticky, the tile grout in the shower enclosure was mouldy, the bathroom floor was dirty and there were marks and stains all over the walls in both the bedroom and the bathroom.

It sometimes to pay a bit more to get something decent than payless and stay at a place like this. We checked in first room was moldy and dirty we wanted our money back the receptionist was nice enought to offer us a diffrent room which was a bit cleaner but how much cleaner can it be. No disrespect to hotel but I would never come back to this hotel, […] we didnt even sleep on the bed and didnt even take a shower I didnt even know why we stayed there. We should have listened to the other low ratings of this hotel. The rooms were not well maintained, the heating was not working, it was always cold in the room, and worst of all there were bed bugs. Our room was in the basement and it smelled musty. The matress was old too.

It was way cheaper than any other option close to downtown because of a major conference that week, but it is as disgusting, poorly kept-up, and badly managed as advertised. No toilet paper in my room, human hair in the bedding, thin plastic-covered mattresses, cramped room, etc etc. Lodging of last resort. I'm glad I escaped without bedbugs.

Hi Hotels.com I´ve been using your site many times, but this was the worst hotel ever. It was not clean. People smoked funny cigarettes just outside. The room was in really bad shape.. I checked out after one night. It was really bad and I went to Delta chelsea in stead. The staff working there are only working to stay there free.. So they don´t care […] I think. Breakfast were included with the words "the one who will get there first will be served". I would´nt even try to eat at a hotel that low standard. Lees meer

Very small room dirty

On arrival the lady at the front desk was pleasant. On seeing our room, we had to ask for a second towel, soap and tooth mugs. We did get a second towel, not the soap or mugs. If we had known these items were not provided, we would have brought them with us. The hall outside our room was blocked with a bucket, mop and garbage. Covers were off the baseboards, the bathroom electric outlet didn't work, outlets showed signs of short-circuiting, nowhere to hang clothes, except in the bathroom on the shower rail, and the bathroom door couldn't even be shut, never mind locked. We asked where to park, and we were directed to a car park down the street. My husband has a lung condition, and found the walk difficult. He also found the use of stairs (no elevator) in the hotel difficult. We should have known this ahead of time. Young people were partying outside under our window till the wee hours of the morning. First off, this is not a hotel, it's a hostel. Staff was pretty friendly. Its walking distance to downtown but I would take a cab, its only $8. The surrounding neighborhood is kinda sketch. By hotel standards, this place is horrible. But, by hostel standards its average. Our Private room had 2 queen beds, cable tv & A/C. Not bad for a (hostel) in downtown […] Toronto. Parking is hard to come by but the hostel offers parking for $15. My stay wasnt a horrible experience, as Ive stayed at many hostels, but I thought you should know the details...because I didnt. Booked a two night stay with parking. On the night I showed up the boiler was broken so no hot water was available, and my reserved parking spot was occupied. Also, no remote for the television in my room. Boiler was fixed by the second day. No remote was ever provided. Problems with internet access from room (WI Fi) and not much better from the common room with a couple of their own PC's. The Downtowner is not a fancy hotel. Period. Anyone wanting a "hotel" for that matter should look elsewhere. Its more of an international hostel type environment. HOWEVER, the location is fantastic. Walking distance to pretty much whatever it is you want to do. The room I had was sparse. Bed, TV, Small table. But it was clean. The Downtowner Inn Toronto was a thoroughly dissatisfying experience! It really would have been better if I found a nice park bench to stay the night in a safer part of town. The room itself was DISGUSTING! The phone and air conditioning didn't work, the TV only worked on one station and the shower sprayed all over the floor when I tried to use it. […] When I tried to position the shower head the floor of the shower was too short to prevent the water from staying within the confines of the stall. There were holes in the walls in the bathroom and the view from outside my window was of Toronto's ghetto. The hotel's hallways smelled of stale ethnic food. When I was walking back late at night after exploring the city I was courted by a prostitute at a brothel one block away from the hotel. After making my way past some of Toronto's "finest" hanging out in the street and sparing some change for beggars out of fear of what would happen if I didn't, I eventually made it back to my room. The Downtowner Inn is near Eaton Centre and public transportation facilities, but please do yourself a favor and spend $10 more for a safer and cleaner hotel experience. Lees meer

The staff was friendly and the location of the hotel was convenient. Everything else was lousy. The room looked like a construction site. One towel was not enough was 2 days. There was a nasty smell in the room and also in the hall ways. The breakfast was not at all as advertised in the web site. It was much poorer.

Mold on the shower curtain, sheets weren't clean, carpets an absolute disaster of stains and stickiness, room smelt of mold and mustiness. I insist, DO NOT BOOK HERE! It's a dump and it should be free to stay here as I would rather stay in the streets. I cancelled my reservations on arrival after a quick inspection of the room. this was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. there was no elevator, paint peeling on the walls, carpet in hallways only and was threadbare in many places. dirty laundry was lying on the floors in the hallways. They provided only 1 towel, no washcloth,I wondered whether to step on the towel after showering or drying myself off. no bathtub, just shower. […] air conditioner did not work. tv was connected to a cable box but only 1 channel worked. I wondered how effective the door lock would be if someome tried to break in. I did not see fire extinquishers anywhere. The only good thing to say is the floor in the room appeared to be clean. The front desk staff did answer questions and called a taxi when I asked. had I seen the inside of this place before I would not have stayed there . Lees meer

This is the wrost hotel I ever stayed in. They didn't come & clean the room at all. There wasn't any shade to cover the windows in the room. The Internet crash & the staff didn't make an efford to fix it. The phone had no service at all. I would not stay in this hotel if you're in Toronto. The door wouldn't lock while leaving your room.

Extremely dirty hotel, bugs and insects in the summer crawl on your pillow! The bed has hair in it, the floors and walls are extremely dirty. The internet does not work.

All I can say Is im pretty sure a hobo took a bunch of rubbish drugs. Cut himself several times and started running around my room screaming and flailing. So in conclusion not the best hotel.

This is by far the worst hotel I have ever seen. It was filthy from the lobby to the room. There were piles and piles of garbage just decaying in the small parking lot. The "staff" couldn't care less if you had a complaint. There was no phone service in room. Wifi did not work. We were given 1 towel and for a 3 night stay, they NEVER cleaned the room […] or replenished the towels. Not even a soap holder of any kind in the shower. We had been in more than 40 countries in hundreds of hotels and for the first time we had to leave the hotel during the night and search for another accommodation that cost us a fortune. The room was more than dirty and in a couple of hours we killed more than 5 bed bugs. It may sounds nice because it's cheap but it's too bad to be true. Our advice: […] stay away from this place! The first room I was put in had a towel as a partial window curtain, and the door did not close very well because the door and lock had been damaged but not repaired. Damaged and repaired doors and locks appeared to be a problem through the hotel. I moved to another room where the paint was peeling off the wall, electrical outlets were uncovered, and […] other signs of other neglected maintenance. You have to ask for extra toilet paper, and even then they handed me a dirt-stained roll. Requests for maintenance were ignored. Room wasn't serviced at all throughout the stay. Lees meer

We walked into the room to find a dirty bed, a tv with one channel, one towel, and a space heater. Everyone in Toronto spoke English except the staff here. No one seemed to know what was going on and I did not feel comfortable leaving any of my things in the room unattended considering our cigarettes were stolen the first 2 hours we were gone. The area […] is on the border of being extremely shady and it wasn't safe for us to walk anywhere at night. There was almost no parking and I got a parking ticket the very first hour I was there. I sprayed the entire room with bed bugs spary, wore sandals in the shower, and stacked suitcases against the door for security when i slept. Frindly Stuff, good location and low price. But thats the only positive thing in this "Hotel". The Bed was broken and you can only close the door with the key (you get only 1 key). Everythink look very bad and dirty. If you are looking for a cheap hotel near downtown and dont care about comfort, book a room. Anybody else look for a better hotel. The rate was cheap so I was immediately skeptical. Once I checked in I was immediately upgraded to a 2 double bed room. Unnecessary since it was only me traveling but oh well I thought. I get in the room and there are two outlets. One occupied by the TV/Fridge and the A/C. The other was in the bathroom. No problem, my cell will just charge in the sink. […] Then I notice no towels. No problem, I brought my own. Then I notice no toilet paper. That's when I thought that'd this would be an issue. Aside from those points, however, the staff was very knowledgeable on the local area, the price was convenient, the location was fantastic, and overall I felt comfortable there. I wasn't in the room much anyways so none of these lack of features bothered me except the lack of TP. So if you decide to stay here, I'm sure you'll love the location just bring your own TP. The room smelled bad. The lights were burnt out. There was only one channel on the tv. The toilet was coming off the wall. One bed was more comfortable than the other. There were bugs in one bed. We had a stain that resembled blood splatter on the window. We could hear other rooms from inside our room. The pillow cases had stains/pubic hairs. I would not recommend staying here. After speaking with our neighbour we found out his room was infected with bedbugs and the employees refused to report it, therefore it has been left untreated.
