ligging van het hotel dicht bij de verboden stad. Regelmatig gebruik gemaakt van de gratis fietsen. (niet de beste maar goed voor enkele km'ters) Service prima. Overdag was er altijd een en engelssprekende receptioniste die zeer behulpzaam was. Bij een volgend bezoek zou ik dit hotel weer kiezen

Very sweet young staff. Always helpful And friendly. Cleanliness was above average for northern Chinese hotels. Always room for improvement in most urban accomdations in Hebei... Felt very comfortable in everyway here. Loved the hustle-bustle feeling of the village like neighborhood. Everything you might want or need very close at hand.

Hotel rooms are a little small but they are clean and comfortable. It had everything in there we needed, except the 'free high speed internet' was terribly slow! This could be due to the server restrictions in China though as we struggled to access google and gmail most of the time. The hotel staff were not helpful at all. They didn't seem to understand […] English very well and couldn't help us when we asked about taxis. Beware that the 'travel agency' inside the hotel will quote you 200RBM for get a taxi from the hotel to the airport but if you book it through the hotel reception it will only cost you 100RBM - very weird! The location was very close to the Forbidden City and a beautiful park (Jingshan park) but it isn't close to a subway (closest is 25-30mins walk away) which was a bit of a pain. But taxis were incredibly cheap to catch so it wasn't an issue for us as long as you mastered how to wave them down and quickly jump in before they can say no (be aware that taxi drivers in Beijing do not speak english so have a translating app with you). The surrounding neighbourhood is quite run-down but it was safe and 3 minutes walking got you to the main road which was usually filled with tourists anyway. All in all, we would stay here again as it was cheap and comfortable and very central. Lees meer

This hotel is nice, once you find it. The cab driver got lost. The surrounding neighborhood is VERY suspect. But in the middle of this, there sits this gem of a hotel. Our A/C and heating system broke and they immediately gave us a portable heater which worked perfectly well. In a good location on a very local street however the nearest subway stop was a 15 minute walk away. The first room we got, the bed sheets smelled of smoke. We requested another room and it was larger, clean, and the room didn't smell, but the bathroom continually smelled of sewer or smoke. The hotel is fine - very adequate for a short-stay in Beijing. The location is good, but not quite as good as other people have made out. It's about a 20 minute walk to the nearest tube station. Taxis also have trouble finding the hotel. Check-in was quick and easy, there was a Y400 deposit payable (which I had no problems getting back) The room […] was clean and well-appointed. The bed was comfortable and there was enough space for storage. There was a TV, but the only English-language channels were CCTV (Chinese state-run news which is similar to CNN, BBC etc, but from a Chinese slant) and HBO. One minor gripe was that no-free bottles of water are provided each-day (most hotels in locations where the tap water is not drinkable do this). The mini-fridge was also not refilled during the course of my stay - I would have used more items from it had it been done so as they were not, relatively speaking, very expensive. There was a slightly sewer-ish smell that emanated from the bathroom on occasions, usually after a shower. It wasn't a big issue. The breakfast was fine, but it was a Chinese breakfast. There were however 'western' options such as toast, eggs bacon etc so it was possible to have a full breakfast. As most of the guest in the hotel were Chinese there were a lot of people smoking. The hotel was generally quite smokey and this filtered into my room - at times it was quite strong and quite annoying however it certainly wasn't constant. Lees meer

walking distance to fobidden city, tianammen square, and close to bus and subway lines for all other visits. dont be freaked out by the alley way the hotel is in, it looks scarier than it is. get your breakfast from the alley cafe on the corner.

Nice city hotel. Close to Forbidden City but a bit far from metro stops. Small street hard to find. Make sure you have hotels telephone number written down so taxi driver can call for directions. Taxi drivers don't speak any other language than Chinese and they don't know their city nor they can read street maps or alphabetic addresses.

The location is great. We could walk to many places. We enjoyed the hutong area. Our room (301) was very small compared to others that we saw. Although 3* hotels are not for everyone, I particularly liked the hotel, the neighborhood and the location. The hotel was priced right and inexpensive. The neighborhood was most definitely local however had a very nice restaurant (Alley Cafe) that felt western when that inevitable need for a hamburger/fries finally took over. The staff was nice and it was clean. The location wasn't that great our tour guides had to make us walk because the street (alley) was too small. It said free wifi but that is only in the lobby and it doesn't connect. It also says there is a gym and game room but we were not allowed inside although we heard other guests in there.

We were pleasantly surprised by the Sha Tan Hotel. It is on a colourful little hutong in a great location close to the Forbidden City. The front desk staff were friendly, spoke more than adequate English and were very helpful in booking us a taxi to the airport. Only complaint, the water pressure in the shower was a little to be desired, and the water took a long time to warm up. Also, like elsewhere in China, used toilet paper goes in the rubbish bin, and is not flushed down the toilet. But we were quite happy with this hotel and overall, we would definitely recommend. The hotel was reasonable for the price. There was Wifi in the lobby, and all the staff spoke some English. It was a 30 minute walk to the Forbidden City, and Tiananmen Square. The staff at Sha Tan hotel is exceptional. I had no trouble adjusting my reservations and tours by phone in advance and even received a personal note from the day staff when I arrived late. I didn't have any meals so I can't comment on that, it is difficult for Taxis to find but I usually stay in that area so I anticipated that. If you aren't familiar […] with the area you might want to request that the hotel send you instructions on how to reach their location from the North end of the Forbidden City in Chinese so the taxi driver can read them. The pillow top mattresses were an amazing change from the usual hotel beds in China, my only complaint about the hotel is that they can't do foreign exchange but the nearby ICBC can take care of that. Along the main road that crosses the North gate of the Forbidden City (walk the opposite direction) you'll find a string of art supply stores, a great art museum and a little shop with fantastic wool and other yarns to bring home for your knitting friends. The room was hot, but no was to cool it with the remote temp control.I was told the temp control system wasn't working and since it was April the air conditioning wasn't turned on. Sha Tan is a great hidden gem. Its a smaller, independent hotel located in a hutong. 1 mile to Wangufijing Street, Forbidden City entrance and right next to Jingshan Park. Lots of interesting shops and local flavor right on the hutong. They have a restaurant, but we didnt try since so many good cheap local options in neighborhood. Great little wi-fi […] cafe right nearby (Alley Cafe, to left upon exiting hotel) that has good western breakfast to start your day. There is also a small bar/lounge in lobby. Rooms are small but fine for two people. Bathrooms small also. Comparable to Novotel or Ibis type rooms we have stayed at elsewhere. Rooms are clean, with flat screen tv, mini fridge, minibar and they have a business center with computers in lobby. I believe they have wiring for internet in rooms but we just went to Alley Cafe in the morning that had wi-fi. The staff is pleasant and helpful. If you dont mind walking a little, location is great as there are sights to the north (Bell/Drum Tower area), south (Wangfujing) and west Jingshan and Behai Parks). Betty at front desk is very helpful, she helped us get tickets to a show and write down Chinese name of a shopping street for taxis. If you require a highrise chain luxury hotel like Hyatt or Hilton, look elsewhere. If you are a mobile, independent traveler who wants to experience a unique (and very safe) authentic Beijing neighborhood, I would highly recommend it. Lees meer

The pictures on the website are misleading and make the rooms look more luxurious than they are. The rooms are MUCH smaller in person and are by no means luxurious. When I complained, the manager of the hotel admitted that the photos are taken from "angles" to make the rooms look bigger. The showerhead was not working properly and needed to be cleaned. […] The hotel staff attempted to accomodate us by relocating us to another room, but not without arguing and giving us attitude first. The restaurant was never open, so we always had to make sure we ate before returning to the hotel for the evening. The hotel was standard at best. This was a great find for an extremely clean but cheap hotel. When checking in the two ladies at the front desk spoke great English (on checking out - not as much). The furniture in the rooms was just as nice looking as the pictures and the walls and carpet was nice and clean. Clean bathroom and everything you need. I even booked the 2 single bedroom […] with no window and had no problems. My parents were traveling with me and the as well loved it and felt like they were given the deal of a lifetime. The only problem was when we booked a tour to the great wall and Ming tombs. In the end we got everything we paid for but it took a full out yelling match in the car, threating to call the police. The whole tour, from the beginning, the driver and the tour guide was trying to change what we bought back at the hotel tour office. We actually had to drive back to the hotel to settle the matter. However an hour later, they were at it again. I was able to call the hotel and they were translating for me. The guides didn't want to pay for our lunch as promised, entrence fees, nor entrance we paid for at the great wall(they wanted to only take us to the closest one - not the better one included in the package we bought). Again in the end and with force we got everything we paid for but it was not pleasant. I would not blame this on the hotel but would wish they had a more secure tour office in their hotel. I say all this just to be aware and recap everything you paid for before leaving. With that said the night before we did a kong fu show and tickets at hotel were same as at the box office. The only problems we had with this hotel was that our bathroom smelled mildly of sewage which was never resolved during our stay, and that it was initially difficult to find the hotel because it is located in a hutong.
