Ko Olina Beach Villas Resort in Kapolei

Ko Olina Beach Villas was a luxurious and private location with many amenities. Unfortunately, during our stay the main pool area was close for repairs. We were limited to the "quiet" adult pool area with three little kids. This was our only complaint. There were alternatives, as there are three lagoons (man-made beach fronts) adjacent to the condo […] complex. There's a fourth lagoon, but we never saw it or it was off the beaten path. Note that Beach Villas is a condo complex with some additional services like towels, daily room cleaning and a small work-out facility. There's nice Wolfe BBQs (four) located around the main pool area (the pool area under repair). The "partial" ocean view rooms actually have more of an ocean view than you might think. Getting around Honolulu: staying in Ko Olina is not Honolulu. If you are planning a lot of cultural experiences in and around Honolulu, I do not recommend this location, as the H-1 does back-up and can take up to an hour to get to Waikiki, Diamond Head or further South. If you do stay in Ko Olina, we highly recommend you explore Kaena Point for a hike or for an amazing beach. The Beach Villas do NOT offer restaurants, but you'll have a full kitchen and there's a Costco in Kapolei to stock your refrigerator and freezer. You can access all restaurants in the Ko Olina Resort area across from JW Marriott, and you can also access all restaurants in the neighboring JW Marriott, the Mariott Resors and Disney Aulani. I would have given this condo a 5 star rating but two out of three hot tubs were not working and it appeared that they were not intending to fix them. The condo unit is very nice and the 3 bedroom partial ocean view unit was awesome. We could easily live there long term. It's ideal for families. The open kitchen concept with all the luxury appliances […] was a bonus. The beach is a very short walk from the back of the condo and it's beautiful and not very busy. If you rent in Ko Olina, you need to have a car to get around to get groceries and things. We were at the Beach Tower, 6th floor, part ocean view, and a large open field that led to the new Disney Aulani Hotel, which gave a sense of privacy unlike the other side of the hotel and the OceanTower. Access to the beach was very short and easy, also no problem with parking underground. We had an amazing time here. The lagoon is gorgeous, safe, and has amazing sea life for snorkeling. Lagoon 3, right in front of beach villas has the best snorkeling of the four lagoons and occasionally sea turtles visit. I saw all the fish that I have seen at any other snorkeling site in Hawaii right off our private clean beach. We loved the kiddie […] beach pool at the Ko Olina Beach Villas for our one year old son. Never seen anything like it, but it's a great idea, Fake sand (gravel that's much less messy) forms a "beach" with ~1 foot deep water that's perfect and safe for very young kids. Our little boy loved it, and the two adult pools were great also. Our condo was very large, well furnished with an amazing kitchen and lanai. The bathroom was first class. Safeway and target are really close so you fell like you are at home for cooking, etc.The grounds are beautiful. Not many amenities (only one small bar that closes early and no restaurants on site) but there are other resorts in walking distance (disney and marriot) that have it all. We'll be back Lees meer

This was the most relaxing vacation I have taken. It felt like we were the only individuals staying at the resort with the maid service coming in while we were at the private lagoon or out. The front desk was very friendly as well. The private parking and free internet were also a plus. The upkeep on the property was excellent.

We had the most wonderful stay. The staff was wonderful, the grounds were meticulously maintained. It was peaceful and serene. We loved that it was right on the beach. We would recommend this hotel to anyone whether they are traveling with children or not.

We couldn't have chosen a better place for our Hawaii trip. We had a three bedroom beach villa on the third floor overlooking the pool and ocean. The suite was spacious with all updated amenities. Great place if you are looking for quiet, spacious rooms for the whole family, and less crowds. The cove is the least crowded of all four which gives you plenty of time at the beach if you choose. My family (3 children, 2 adults) and I stayed in a two bedroom partial ocean view, it was the ocean tower, 4th floor. The room had surround sound, flat screen TV's in every room, 2 bath, the master bath has a huge bathtub and shower with an opening into the bedroom. kitchen was well furnished with all the appropriate items to cook and serve any meal. […] The Lanai doors opened all the way to a beautiful view of the ocean and pool. Disney's hotel is next door, we walked that direction and explored their grounds as well. We had lots of space and loved the grounds. The hotel, grounds and location are beautiful. The staff are very good too. Unfortunately the place is timeshare, and the house rules are pretty strict. There is a "quiet" pool, which anything over a whisper will get a complaint from one of the "residents" requiring the staff to issue a warning, albeit it with a "I don't believe it either" look on […] there face. There is NO facilities onsite for food or drink. There is a bar, but that is only open during the day. There is no place on site to buy food or other essentials. Have a car so you can get to safeway. They also have issues with parking. You will be given a space. You have to park in that space or risk being clamped or towed by security. There will be 100s of free spaces, but you MUST park in your own space. Someone will already be parked in your space. You will park elsewhere. You will get a warning on your windscreen. Overall this was a wonderful high quality condo. We had a 3 bedroom/3 bath, all beds were very comfortable and tvs in each room. High quality appliances, but took what seemed like forever to heat, same with stove. Guest services was helpful and accomodating and housekeeping nice and thorough. 2 of the 3 hot tubs were not working. Hopefully soon there […] will be good restaurant options in Ko Olina that are not in the hotels, but the hotel restaurants were good, just pricey. We had seen the photos on the website but were still very pleasantly surprised at the quality of our accommodations. The suites were spacious, high-end, and our partial ocean-view would have counted as oceanview anywhere else. Extremely comfortable for extended stays - we would stay there again in a heartbeat. We envy the owners who own this piece of […] paradise! Only 2 negatives: first was the small size/depth of the pools and the beach lagoons, which was fine for younger kids but a bit boring for the older kids. No large waves at the lagoons for boogie-boarding, but nice & calm for the younger children. We weren't allowed to take our own beach umbrellas onto the beach area at the lagoon (apparently someone successfully sued a resort for being hit by an umbrella on a windy day!) and there weren't many built-in straw palapas but it was ok as long as you got to the beach before 9am. Second negative, no on-site restaurant or room service. However, there were lots of both high-end and casual restaurants within easy walking distance at the neighbouring resorts, and the condo's kitchens made it easy to prepare breakfasts and lunches on-site. Wolf BBQ's at poolside were easy to use too, and no line-ups. In summary, a fantastic stay - don't hesitate to book! Lees meer

This Room was huge... plenty of room for our baby to play. The only down fall of this place is no restaurant directly on site. Man made lagoons were perfect for snorkeling and swimming.

This resort was absolutely first-class in every regard. With a 10-month old in tow, we were looking for a place that could offer us some in-room amenities; the condo-style setup of the resort fit the bill perfectly. We had asked for a few "baby extras" such as a crib and high chair. Both items were top quality. The crib was fitted with a proper, high-quality […] mattress and regulation baby bedding--and it's the seemingly 'little things' like this that we so much appreciated, taking any potential new-parent worries out of the equation right off the bat and freeing us to enjoy every minute of this fabulous trip. The condo itself was huge and modern, with every available comfort, including a fabulous kitchen that made cooking a real pleasure. The terrace was also big and outfitted with comfy furniture from which we could enjoy our ocean view. The rest of the complex was gorgeous and clean, clean, CLEAN! There were multiple pools, including a cute kiddie pool with a sandy bottom. Beaches were lovely and as clean as can be. Even in this supposed high season for travel, there was plenty of room to spread out and enjoy without worrying about bumping elbows with other beachgoers. For people looking for a party place, this is not it. However, for young families looking for a quiet, relaxing getaway, it doesn't get any better. Service-wise, this resort shines. When contemplating other hotels for our vacation, we were so disappointed by their tendency to try and nickel-and-dime you for absolutely every little thing. Not so at Ko Olina Villas. If your request is reasonable, they do their best to accommodate it. Period. That's the kind of hospitality we were hoping for and received. We enjoyed our stay at the Ko Olina Beach Villas and would recommend it to others. The beach was very clean & quiet, and the lagoon was a nice sheltered (non-wavy) area for swimming. Two beautiful pools & adjacent hot tubs, although we were bummed that the pools weren't deeper (3ft on the adult pool, 5ft in kids pool). Having a condo style unit with […] the extra space made our stay much more relaxing and felt like home. The kitchen was beautiful and included everything you'd need to cook a meal. However, to get the groceries, you either need a car or pay $30 for a ride to Safeway. (Unless you want to spend double to buy your groceries at the local ABC store which is a 12 minute walk from the beach villas.) A couple downsides to our unit - the bed was a little hard; the livingroom couch was only 2ft off the ground and you felt like you were sliding off when you sat on it; and some of the rooms had dust bunnies floating around the floors. Overall cleanliness was pretty good though. We stayed in the Beach Tower and had a decent side view of the ocean from our lanai. The pool/beach bar is a great idea and very convenient, but at $10/drink, we didn't spend a whole lot there. This is a quieter place to stay (which we enjoyed), so if you want activities or entertainment you have to walk to the neighboring hotels. We just got back from a 7 day stay at the villas. The rooms were amazing!! Very modern and upper class. We had a lanai that opened up to a grassy area on the bottom floor which was really nice and peaceful. I would recommend this hotel to those who are not looking for the glamour of a Marriott or Westin. The grounds were nice with 2 swimming pools and […] a koi pond area which was very relaxing. The only downfall was the the hotel had no restaurants, only one bar, and the workout facility only consisted of a couple different machines. I really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. We needed a little R & R which this hotel provided. My husband and I were extremely impressed with this hotel. The apartment was nicely decorated and comfortable. It had a huge kitchen that was great for cooking our morning breakfast and a large balcony for eating and drinking out on. The grounds of the hotel were just as impressive. We even took advantage of the grills and cooked up a couple steaks […] one night. There was even a nice bar that had a wonderful ocean view. The bartender, Charles, was extremely helpful in recommending some local restaurants for us to try out and they were terrific. I wouldn’t hesitate for a second to return to this place. It’s kind of far from Honolulu, so if you’re looking to be close to the city than this isn’t the place to stay. In short, luxury living with a great view and serene surroundings. I'm not a fan of large crowds which is one of the primary reasons I selected this resort. It used to be considered "remote" due to lack of dining/shopping options in the area, but now Kapolei (a short 5-10 minute drive) is bustling with numerous restaurants and retail shops including […] Target and Costco. We hit Costco to load up on groceries for our week+ stay and took advantage of the full kitchen (top-end appliances and all of the tools needs to prepare complete meals). Great decor and amenities (large common area the outside deck, comfortable beds, oversized shower in master, stacked w/d, wi-fi, underground parking, BBQ grills at the pool). The guest rooms are well sized and appointed. This is not your typical “hotel suite” living - it is truly a luxury condo. The lagoons are beautiful and not crowded. A short walk from one to the next, with each offering a slightly different experience. The only negative is there is not one offering much of a snorkeling option. We didn’t find the drive times as lengthy as some of the other reviews, but tried to avoid peak traffic times. We did get caught in rush hour traffic one afternoon on our way back from Ala Moana, but wasn’t that bad. We did drive quite a bit to see the sights and used about 1 ½ tanks of gas in total. The only other ‘dings’ are: 1.) No ATM on site (very minor) 2.) No concierge – the staff is very helpful, but not willing/able to make reservations for tee-times, boat excursions, etc. 3.) Pool hours – closes at 9pm. It would have been nice to enjoy the hot tub until a bit later like 11pm. In summary, if you’re looking for a Hawaiian destination similar to Kauai, but that still offers the ‘big city’ side, this is a great option and truly a home away from home. Lees meer

We stayed there for 8 days and half the time during our stay we were not able to use the exercise room because the key card […] wouldn’t work – the gal at the front desk said they were having technical difficulties (for a week?). They also have (or try to have) a bar by the pool but good luck trying to find it open...each day we spent by the pool or in the too small and overcrowded lagoon I would inquire about what time the bar would be open and always got a story or was just out right lied to about when it may be opened. Oh, and don’t try and discuss these issues with the management because according to the staff they’re always at “A meeting off property”. Also, the condos are situated in a U shape around the pool so the balconies are basically facing each other which is a little uncomfortable to say the least – no privacy. And I’m sure that’s why we spotted 4 cockroaches in our condo during our stay…they didn’t mention those in any advertisement. So don’t waste your time here…do yourself a favor and stay in Waikiki where everything is more convenient but if you’re looking for a peaceful retreat away from Waikiki stay at Turtle Bay. Lees meer

We came as a family with my kids and mother. The condo was immaculate and very comfortable. It was actually BETTER than the pictures on the website. We also enjoyed the quieter location surrounded by more active places if you were in the mood. The swimming was just right; perfect walking paths with beautiful views. I really have no complaints other […] than some guests who would commondeer seats around the pool and then go off to the lagoons. After the height of the school vacation week this improved and we enjoyed the tranquility. The surrounding area is improving in terms of being able to get affordable and easy food. The property is undergoing a change in management and it seems understaffed at check-in (and inexperienced or ill-trained), but once you get passed that the condos are new with modern appliances and a huge sliding door/window that opens to the lanai. Condos are spacious and spotlessly cleaned everyday by house cleaning staff. The grounds are very nice […] and the pools and ocean lagoon are welcoming. The facilities of this resort are great, however service was often poor and outright rude. I would not recommend this location for families with children as regulations are strict and (impolitely) enforced. Examples include no noise at the pool, no jumping into the pool, or no floating devices in the pool. At one point for example security asked us […] to remove the floating device for a toddler - so it would be better to have the child drown? On the flip side, we experienced a real security threat in the gym and staff elected to simply ignore it. The 2 bedroom, 2 bath with balcony and partial ocean view was excellent. It met our needs; great kitchen with high-tech appliances. Wonderful view. Very clean and well kept. The hotel setting is actually a development of private condominiums. There are beautifully landscaped gardens and several pools and hot tubs that are great for kids and adults. Water is about 3 feet deep. Just outside the resort is a public beach with 3 man made coves ideal for ocean swimming. The beach villas are incredible. The beds are comfortable, the kitchen has EVERYTHING you could possibly need. The views are beautiful and the location to the beach and pools is the BEST. The only small complaint we had was the parking....our spot assigned was in the complete other building and made for a long walk carrying groceries and everything […] else we bought through the lobby, past the pool and up and down 2 elevators to get back to our room. Guest parking is also a pain if you have more than 1 car w/ 2 families staying at the condo. The hotel was not full in the least so you would think there would be a much more convenient way of handling the parking. The vacation itself was fantastic and the price was GREAT. The kids loved ALL of the pools and the beach is the best around. The fish feedings every morning were a HUGE hit with the kids. The beach is unmatched....clean, quiet, and just perfect. We definitely made ourselves right at home and can't wait to go back VERY soon. Hope the prices stay reasonable even after the Disney resort is complete. Lees meer

We had a great stay at the Ko Olina Beach Villas. The unit was beautiful and we loved the big lanai and open kitchen. Nice pools and grounds and the lagoon is great for snorkeling and never too crowded. Close to restaurants and a market. Wonderful place!

We were very happy with our stay at the Ko Olina Beach Villas Resort! This is a wonderful, well-maintined property. We have young children and they loved the pool, especially the 1-ft sand pool, and the nearby lagoon. We enjoyed the convenience of having a full kitchen and washer/dryer in-unit.
