Overall a good stay. Unfortunately our room was next to the elevator shaft and above the central open lobby area. Cosequently it was rather noisy until late on.we should have asked to change i know but we were only there two nights.i would stay here again but i would request a high floor away from the elevator shaft. So, I happen to really like this neighborhood - great restaurants, vibrant scene, not too stuck up, a little rough around the edges. The Independent hotel fits right in: warm hospitality, quirky good design, no prentention. Can I mention the free wine reception? Generous free breakfast items delivered to your door? Well designed […] bathroom sink that ACTUALLY HAS SPACE FOR YOUR STUFF??!! <3 The one thing, though, is that this is a place I would stay as a leisure traveler, not a business traveler. Hard to block out light, crack around door let noise and hallway light in, no real workspace (wound up using laptop on the aforementioned awesome bathroom countertop). Plus, the noise of the vibrant neighborhood carries. None of this would bother me if I were here for fun, but it was a little hard to sleep before some big meetings. The Independent Hotel has character and is centrally located in downtown Philadelphia. I loved the tall windows and furnishings. There was a fire in the fireplace in the lobby on a chilly March day. Nice touch!

This hotel was really weird. The bed was uncomfortable, the sheets scratchy, the bedspread pilled and lumpy. I would not recommend this hotel at all. Didn't sleep well. Really tacky and cheap furnishings.

The staff was so friendly and helpful. The decor is very cool with lots of interesting art work. I so prefer staying some place that is not a clone that you can find in any city by a big chain. It was quaint in the way that you ordered your breakfast the night before and it was waiting for you at your doorstep in the morning. Very cute botique hotel, great location. Could have used a tub for a nice soak, bathroom was spacious and very clean otherwise. Enjoyed the Masterpiece Theatre setting in the lobby! Staff pleasant. Check out the Green Eggs restaurant accross the street, wonderful food!

We stayed here one night for a Saturday. The hotel is in a good location, can walk to historic sites and has a parking lot across the street. Well its a public lot but it is not too expensive. The room was spacious if not oddly designed and and the bed was good. The walls are thin and we could hear everything from TVs to talking to the chamber maids […] vacuuming. This I definitely not a place where you will be able to sleep in late. It is also very expensive for what you get. Bottom line is that I would try somewhere else next time in Philly. Lees meer

Clean room, good location. The only reason i gave it a 4 instead of a 5 is that the lighting in the room was not great. Had to turn on every lamp there was and it still wasnt enough light. Still it was a great room that felt more like a bedroom then a hotel room which is nice. Hardwood floors gave it a very upscale feel. I am going back next week.

Hotel location was great. Room was very large and comfortable..Only complaint was room was lit by multiple lamps with no overhead light so made it a bit difficult if trying to work/pack etc. Most staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was fine - good that it was delivered to your room at a requested time. Not much variety on the menu (oats, […] cereal, apples etc) which would be fine if only staying for a few days but as we were there for 6 we got a little sick of it. Our clock radio, TV remote and telephone were not working at some point during our stay. The telephone needed to be replaced. Though when we complaint the staff was sympathetic. Our room was very noisy. The walls were paper thin. The breakfast was absolutely pathetic. We enjoyed the attentive service and the complimentary wine and cheese on arrival. We were there on a Tuesday night and found the neighborhood to be oddly noisy in the wee hours of the morning. We could hear the sounds of revelry on the street way up in our fifth floor room. However the hotel itself was outstanding.

Fabulous staff, very helpful and accommodating. Good location, good price, free internet!!! My only problem was the outside noise. There is a parking lot directly across from the hotel that a lot of people congregated at very late at night and were very loud. Could not sleep until they decided to go home.

Service was very good. I didn't appreciate seeing "work space area" doors open with untidy work environment. Bedroom was rather small, but shower was spacious by comparison and efficient. There was considerable street noise that was tough to ignore.

This is a really nice hotel. The rooms are airy and comfortable with modern features like flat panel TVs hooked to DirecTV, with a refrigerator, microwave and Keurig coffee maker. interesting take on hotel. The building is old, but inside the decour is contemporary which as a suprise to us. Parking is a disaster, but it was as expected when being downtown. We enjoyed our stay, even though the room was spotless, and we found the coffee filter holder in the sink with water running on it ( who knows for how long). the harwood floors […] int he room were a nice touch and the bathroom was pretty nice, but other details were not up to the same grade. I.e. cable box barely balanced on the dresser right underneath a nice lcd tv. Overall it was a nice hotel and the staff was attentive, we only stayed for a fewhours as we got in to town very late, which may or may not have contributed to our take on the hotel. That being said, the Hotel is better than a chain hotel and is very reasonably priced for the location both of which are large plusses in our book. Lees meer

The glass on the windows was glazed and that made it dark. I like well lit rooms, especially those that have windows. Other than that it was a very nice hotel.

The only reason I gave this hotel a 4 over a 5 overall is because the insulation by the door is pretty limited so during busy times when people are coming and going from their rooms you hear their voices, door slams and footsteps. This may be the best hotel I have ever stayed in the USA. Friendly, convenient, service oriented, gratuities that would make Hyatt cringe. I plan on going back to Philly just to stay here again. Regrefully we had to transfer to the Hyatt on Penn's Landing. We wished we could have stayed at the Independent.

The room was spacious and comfortable, and the shower head (double, Speakman) was AWESOME. Nice to have a simple breakfast included in the price. Also nice to have complimentary wine in the evening. I'll definitely stay here again if I'm back in Philly.

Wonderfully central location, close to historic sites and restaurants/shopping. Excellent staff; helpful and friendly. Free tea & coffee 24/7 and complimentary breakfast! The best place I have stayed in the US. Highly recommended.

Check-in was easy and fast by a courteous and helpful front desk. The room was large, clean and very homey. The neighborhood is right in the middle of everything. We never had to take a taxi and there wer restaurants and nightlife all around us. Can't wait to go back.
