Right in the center of town was the perfect location if you wanted to walk for meals or shopping. Parking facilities were not as convenient as you would expect but parking within the town could be quite reasonable. The price of the room appeared to be quite high, concidering we had five rooms booked over the weekend we expected some kind of discount. […] Other than that this is a beautiful old style building that is well maintainted. I stayed at the Arbutus during a conference. Hotel was clean but had character, the staff were friendly, and it was centrally located.

Lovely staff, extremely helpful. Beds old, not very comfortable, room a little worn, but bathroom clearly recently updated.

What a fantastic hotel and what fantastic staff.. We stayed here one night and was blown away with the style and luxury of the hotel, the setting was in town, but not noisy and the room was fab. Mr O'Connor who was behind the bar at 'Buckley's Bar' was just great and real gent. This is by far the best hotel we stayed at in Ireland. The front desk staff are very friendly and helpful in suggesting good places to eat and how to get around town. My one comment would be the street noise. Although not much the hotel staff themselves could do the location on the main street is noisy on a Saturday night when the pubs close and folks pour onto the street. This is probably the ideal place to stay in Killarney since it is right in the middle of town. The bar downstairs was one of the friendliest we had visited on our trip. When my wife wanted a late night snack in the bar to go along with a tea, they brought us scones and gingerbread...make sure you ask for the recipe for the gingerbread..you will love […] it. The oarking is a bit of an issue but a very small issue. Since it is in the moddle of town, you have 3 choices. You can park at a house they own for free about a 5-10 minute walk up the street (not a big deral but might be for some folks). Two, you can use the public lot that is a little closer than the house for 3 euros a day, or you can use another public lot in the middle of town and a 1 minute walk away. We choose the later because it is free between 6:30PM and 8:30AM, which is essentially when we were parked any way because we went on day trips. Would also suggest that you drop a couple of euros into the parking ticket machine when you park at night because it will give you an extra hours for each euro in the morning. Drop in 2 euro and you are good to 10:30AM. No rushing in the morning so you can enjoy the gingerbread and a very good breakfast buffet. Lees meer

Travelled to Killarney by train for the Irish Open Golf.Arbutus just around corner from train station and in centre of town close to all amenities. Had great nights sleep in Kingsize bed in quiet room to back of building. Very friendly staff and lovely freshly cooked breakfast. This hotel would be a two star in the states. It was nice but overpriced for a tiny room and a lumpy bed with flat pillows. Staff were nice and breakfast was very good.

Good restaurants and pubs everywhere around you! Easy walking distance to many stores,and eating establishments. Ring of Kerry right at your doorstep! Great help with planning our ventures by the hotel staff! Great hotel pub in building! Excellent breakfast. Highly recommend.

This hotel is rated 4 star with a description that says pictures of rooms may vary. It should say the pictures on the website are not what to expect. A little misleading with the description. However, that being said, the service was nice and pleasant. Room was clean. Not sure it should be a 4 star.

This hotel is in need of modernising; the rooms smell musty and the decor is dated and tired. The dinner we had on our first night was like something from the 70's, my food had little flavour and was served in a large cereal bowl. In the bar, they had only 3 bottles of Sauvignon Blanc and no champagne, and we were a party of 22 having a reunion dinner, […] although they did go out and buy more wine. Hotel is mint. Bed wasn't the comfiest though. Paper thin walls (noisy neighbours). Lovely staff, very accommodating and had no hesitation in relocating me and my husband. New room with a comfy bed (and thicker walls) Charming hotel, sympathetic & kind staff, ideal location.

This hotel is on the main street of the tourist area and a block from the train station and two blocks from the bus station. The room was spacious with a large modern bathroom. The hotel is older with some charm and character. I would stay here again given the opportunity.

The Arbutus Hotel was a short walk from the train station and right in the city centre. All the hotel staff we interacted with were helpful and friendly. This is an older hotel and decorated as such. Not everyone appreciates that, but we prefer that over a chain hotel. The room was clean and of ample size. The beds were comfortable and the shower was […] hot. The rooms are not air conditioned but we didn't find that we needed it in September. The room did not contain a safe or refrigerator. The only meal we ate at the hotel was breakfast and the food was delicious. The dining room staff even helped us pack some breakfast to go when we had to catch an early train. We did not have to hire a taxi during our stay as everything was within walking distance and all of the day tours we took picked us up at the hotel which was very convenient. There was so much to do in the Killarney vicinity we did not see everything we wanted to. Day tours in the vicinity include the Ring of Kerry, Dingle Peninsula, Gap of Dunloe, and an hour and a half train ride to Cork and short bus ride from there to get to Blarney Castle. Many restaurants, pubs and stores in town and always felt safe walking on the street no matter what the hour. The Arbutus Hotel was our favorite during this trip. Lees meer

The Arbutus Hotel in Killarney is very well situated in the middle of the town and is within walking distance of the train/bus station (5mins). It is an old hotel but very well kept. Reception staff were extremely friendly, polite, helpful and efficient. My room was clean and comfortable. Then location was at the heart of Killarney town. The dining room was a bit chaotic at breakfast with people entering and leaving causing a bit of a logjam. It was not quite clear which items were available from the buffet and which would be brought […] to one's table. Also I had to ask for black and white pudding with my Full Irish. The former are an integral part of the latter. I had a problem with trying to get into the hotel after midnight one night. The door was locked and I had to ring the doorbell several times before a night porter arrived to admit me. When I queried this, his response was incoherent and not terribly helpful. This was an isolated incident and was quite at variance with the general helpful attitude of the front of house staff. Notwithstanding the above gripes, I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel albeit that the price I paid was a bit on the steep side for mid-week, even in high season. Lees meer

Located right in the main area, about a block from the bus station. Very old building, charming decor. Complimentary wireless in the lobby only. Great showers. The beds weren't the most comfortable. The staff was very nice and very helpful with directions.

I travel a good deal in my work and stay in hotels all over Ireland. All to often the hotel-experience is a tiring one; warm welcomes promised but not delivered, indifferent food in indifferent surroundings and served with indifference. Even when I have to travel a little bit further to stay with the Arbutus I do because I find they go a lot further […] to make you welcome. I love the house itself; walking into the lobby feels like a homecoming. The hotel is great but it is also a great place to explore the town from. When you've been on the road all day it's great to get out and stretch your legs and I always get recommendations from the front-desk that are bang-on. I stayed a few weeks ago and the usual warm welcome from everyone there. The rooms were great, the food was fantastic and breakfast continues to be a real highlight, real food served by real people, who care. I can confidently recommend the Arbutus Hotel to you and am sure you'll thank me for it. It is great to see that which we Irish were famed for so long can still be found in hotels such as the Arbutus ... a family run hotel with a genuine family feel to it. Irish and proud of it ! Spent a couple of nights at the Arbutus and found it to be very nice. The staff at the front desk were exceptional and a great resource for area information. The hotel is well located with a very nice pub attached and another immediately next door. Our room was large with a king bed and sizeable bath with separate tub and shower. We were very excited about staying at the Arbutus because of some of the excellent reviews. When we arrived the desk staff was very friendly. However, the room and especially the bed was "tired' The bed wsa lumpy, slanted, hard and almost impossible to sleep in. The room hair dryer was broken. The hotel is also understaffed. One woman served breakfast, […] worked the desk and serviced room complaints. We even witnessed the manager sacking an employee rather loudly over the telephone. It was sad. Lees meer

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the htel. The staff were very friendly and extremely accomodating. The breakfast menu had lots of choice and the food was delicious.
