Clarion Inn in New London

Hallways and room smelled. Had to wait about 15 minutes to check in. There was only one desk person present. Breakfast was ok. There was a small boy running around the dining area. His mom gave 2 oranges that he proceeded to roll on the floor. Will not visit this Clarion again......NOT WORTH THE $ I PAID!!!

Upon check-in, the staff isn't overtly friendly, but at first glance, the hotel seems not bad. We stayed on the 2nd floor, non-smoking. The smoking rooms are right across the hall so the smell is inescapable. When you first get up to the 2nd floor, it smells of cigarettes and Indian food. The key cards for the doors took at least 5 tries to work. The […] lamp shades in the room were all stained with something that splattered all over them. The toilet and tub are scuffed and stained. The shower curtain was molded. The pillows on the bed were no larger than 12"x12", about the size of an airplane pillow. Went down to vending area to get a soda and the machine was sold out, snack machine was unplugged. Went to the "pantry" next to the front desk and paid $3.75 for a 20 oz soda!!! We were starting to wonder if the vending machine was purposely "sold out" so they could rake in the $$$ for there outrageously priced "pantry" items. A Slim Jim you can get from the gas station for $1.50, was $4! Overall, the hotel was dirty and in disrepair (pool is out of order). We will not be staying there again. Lees meer

Chose this hotel for a saturday night trip to Mohegan Sun. Took the Ferry over to New London. Extremely close to the Ferry (about 5 minute drive). It was the cheapest hotel around with a shuttle so for the price it was totally worth it. Not the fanciest hotel around but it was nice, clean, staff was very friendly and the shuttle just made it completely […] worth it. I went to the Clarion for a wedding and got in from an overnight fight and train trip from LA/NY. When I got to the hotel the person checking me in sold me there would be no rooms avail until 2:30 or 3 and I had to be at a wedding that started at 3PM. Another couple was checking in at the same time and they we're also going to the same wedding. The […] check in person could not find their reservation so they went across the street to the Red Roof Inn. Later on they told me they were happy there. This person checking me in put me in a room with the wrong name and called me by the wrong name even with my ID in front of them. Finally I got a key card and went to the room only to find the maid still v=finishing it, even though there were two rooms already ready next door the check in person gave me this room that was not and I had to wait another 25 minutes for the maid to finish. Also the pool was being renovated and was never open. This area needs a good hotel and this one was would have been "OK" if the help wasn't so rude. Lees meer

I was in New London for a graduation at Connecticut College earlier this month. The hotel location was excellent, the staff was courteous, and the bed slept well. The TV in our room was a Phillips 20” from the 90s; every channel was fuzzy and barely viewable. I had to call the front desk for a remote, after two tries; I finally received a working remote. […] The toilet bowl size was something out of Alice in Wonderland, meaning that it was TINY in size and length! At 6’2” it was challenging to use. Our hallway smelled like smoke and we could hear everything in the hallway due to the paper thin like walls. Horrible service. Rude people checking you in. Horrible transportation coming home from the casino. They tell you when you're at the hotel that they are there everyone on the hour or half hour to pick you up. But when they don't arrive and you call the hotel to find out they say no one called for a pick up! Seriously! The hotel had been taken over by the bank earlier in the week but the front desk personnel was friendly and efficient. Restaurant and pool were closed. Was exactly as expected for the price. Navigation took me to wrong side of Rte. 95. Hotel not so visible from highway. Was definitely farther from mohegan sun than the 8 +/- miles given on site. Shuttle service is nice, though not free

It was fair, not the best but certainly not the worst. As an impromptu trip I would recommend. However as a planned trip, I would go try the next hotel for your trip. It was Not 8 miles, but 12 miles from Mohegan Casino.

We were made aware, as we registered that the hotel was newly foreclosed and being run by a new manager. The place was clean, if a bit dated. The location was perfect. We were staying only one night, and it was fine for our needs. All food/service VERY basic.

They were low on help. The Hotel had just been sold. No liquor license. The rooms were clean and the rugs were nice , bed was comfortable . The TVs needed to be updated, Many of the channels were fuzzy. I like the hotel I am hoping that the new owners will update and have better service

Hotel was taken over by the bank the day we arrived! Lounge liquor license was taken , storm debris all oversight lack of maintenance . Toilet wouldn't work after we called front desk maintenance worked on it and yes it flushed by never would stop running. have a great stay. we stayed a extra nigh since we got back late from casino and they gave us a great price without going through hotels.com. only thing is vending and ice machines didn't work properly. the pool and fitness center was hard to find. the bar and restaurant has good food and good prices. no free shuttle so we drove to casino. breakfast […] is free but gross. i would stay again though. Had booked another Hotel, but a mistake was made in the resevation...(Hotel.com went way beyond and over what they had to do to make this right...they rock!) The second mistake I made was booking the Clarion (I had stayed here in the past) The Hotel was not clean....the room was ok, but the stained carpets in the hall and the sour smelling lobby didnt […] leave me feeling too comfortable. The surrounding neighborhood is scary, but then again I didnt plan on going to the ATM at 2am for money. I had a TV remote with no batteries in it, and the girl at the front desk took pity on me as I made her put her romance novel down and accuse of of stealing the batteries. She took two out of a drawer and slapped them on the counter and then procedded to pick up her book and start to read again. The restaurant here is horrible, as I got food poisioning from their 'world famous pizza'...never again...I'll sleep in my car next time. Not worth the trip. Lees meer

When we arrived at the Clarion, we realized we had no soap and no conditioner (cleaning staff had left shampoo and 2 bottles of lotion). We were disappointed we were unable to get a room at the local casino and opted to get a room at the Clarion because of the proximity to the casino we were visiting. The room was average and the condition of the hotel was a bit tired and dated. We were told there would be a breakfast buffet in the morning. When we wen to the breakfast area at about […] 7:30am we were hugely disappointed. The coffee maker was sitting in a pan of old water and there was very little coffee left in the pot. My husband didn't get a cup of coffee -- mine was the last. There were no service people in sight and there was no hot breakfast in the pans and quite a few people just lounging around on chairs and in front of the food taking whatever was left on the table. I picked this hotel as a stop over on our trip due to its closeness to Mohegan Sun and the indoor pool and hot tube. We left early in order to enjoy the pool and hot tube only to get there and find out that its been closed for over a month! Expedia gives 3 stars to this hotel which for $79 I thought was a great deal only to find out that I've stayed in 1 star motels as comparable to this one. The room was clean and comfortable but there was numerous things wrong with it. One problem was that you couldn't shut the shades to block out the parking lot lights. The heat was off when we entered the room so we were cold as we prepared to leave then when we returned 4 hours later the room had to be 90 degrees even though we had the thermistat set on 70. Good luck finding the entrance to the hotel in one shot !! You have to enter from Bayonet st even though its address is N. Frontage which is a major highway!! WE MADE RESERVATIONS FOR A PAID SHUTTLE AT CHECK-IN THAT DEPARTED EARLY WITHOUT US. THE FRONT DESK LADY THEN LIED WHEN ASKED DIRECTLY IF IT HAD LEFT CAUSING US TO STAND IN THE LOBBY FOR 45MINS. I picked this location because it was somewhat close to the casinos and the price was decent. Our room was better than expected and the hotel restaurant was great (for pizza and wings - the house specialty). The biggest drawback was the shuttle to the casino. All other recommended places were booked so we tried the Clarion. I wish we would have traveled home after going to the Mohegan Sun for a show. I was so uncomfortable because it was flat out gross. The staff was nice and tried to be helpful but I would never go there again.

Overall, I wouldn't stay there again regardless off the price. The hallways were freezing cold, the cleanliness of the whole hotel was poor. My room smelled like vomit. The staff greeting me at the desk answered a phonecall and stayed on the phone the whole time while checking me in. She went on and on about how busy her day had been. The worst part […] was the shuttle service! We signed up on a list to get the shuttle to and from the casino. The ride there was fine, trying to get back was awful. They didnt keep track of who was supposed to be on the shuttles and at what time, there even ended up being a fight because of the shuttle service and the lack of organization. On a busy weekend with a wine fest at the casino there should be more than one shuttle and if you sign up for that time frame, you should be on that bus regardless! I will say one positive thing about this hotel and that is the restaurant "Wings and Pies". The service and the wings were both great. If I was that restaurant I would get out of that hotel! Service was excellent! This is our fourth year in a row staying here to attend the Mohegan wine fest. Shuttle was a plus.

I specifically asked repeatedly about the shuttle to the casino. During the phone reservation, I asked about the shuttle and was not told there was a charge. When I checked in, I asked the ladies at the front desk how often the shuttle runs. I was told, "Every hour." I asked, "does that mean on the hour?" And was told, yes. We got downstairs to take […] the 6 p.m. shuttle and were told by the driver that we hadn't made reservations and pre-paid and the shuttle was full. We had to take a taxi to make it to the casino in time for the concert. I cannot believe the check in agents did not offer me the option to reserve the shuttle when I specifically asked about it. Upon returning to the room, we slept about 2 hours before we were awakened by shouting in the parking lot and the arrival of the police. I would NEVER recommend this hotel to anybody. Lees meer
