Oaks Gateway on Palmer in South Townsville

Very nice staying overnight before reach to Cairns. Room was clean view over the old bridge and bed comfortable. Restourant close to the hotel but after 10 PM was dead as dodo. We are arrive late after long journey. Need some where to eat and drink but after 9 PM most of the restourant not taking order?

Stayed for 5 nights. Location is good with plenty of dining options in the evening. Little dead during the day but we were out and about. Nice pook and gym. Would stay here again

Unfortunately it is in need of a tidy up. There was a large hole in the wall in our bedroom, paint needed touch up all around. Sofa had awaful marks and looked tired and in need of replacment. It was clean and location good. I phoned to advise of the hole only to be told they were aware of this. Great hotel with great location, walking distance to Flinders Street. Make sure you book for dinner at nearby restaurants on Friday and Saturday nights. The streets were dead during the day so we thought we would not have a problem for dinner but then every restaurant had a forty minute wait for dinner. I booked this hotel because it had a pool for my children to use, however when we went to use it it was closed. We were not told this at check in, nor were any alternatives or assistance offered. This wrecked the holiday and added great cost as we had to take taxis to the local public pool.

Oaks Gateway on Palmer is very new and modern but lacked the services of a hotel as this building is an owner occupied appartment building with some of the rooms being used as hotel style accomodation. The building is spotless and the rooms were serviced daily. Palmer Street has plenty of Restaurants and Hotels within 5 minutes walk and the Shopping […] Mall is just a short walk over the river. Excellent location. Close to some great eating places. We really appreciated the free car park too. ( We're not sure how we would have got around without a hire car though. We didn't see any buses near the hotel) Overall a great place to stay!

The hotel is within an easy walk to the cbd and other attractions .There are restaurants both sides of Palmer street .They are fairly expensive but most have good quality food.The hotel is modern and has good parking in the basement with easy access in and out. The rooms on the southern side are subjected to a continual noise from the large airconditioning […] unit on the roof of the restaurant below.The staff are friendly and helpful.I would stay there again but choose a room facing a different direction.It would also be nice to have the option of having breakfast in the hotel Lees meer

Vanessa was very helpful on arrival as we arrived early, she stored our bags and called us back promptly to advise room was ready.Romana on departure also kindly extended our check out by 1 hour. Cleaning wasnt great, the carpets hadnt been thoroughly vacuumed, edges and behind doors had visible dust, windows werent clean and were easily accessable […] from the veranda so no real excuse for this, two seater sofa very small and needs a clean. The daily cleaning regime was a little odd and not explained on check in ie, towels replaced daily even when we hung them to dry and a reference to a "green type program", bed sheets not changed and floors not vacuumed which explains the build up i suggest as they only get done on the checkin/check out. by our 4th day the carpets were really in need of a clean, that was when we were advised that its not done daily, we grabbed a vacuum that was lying in the corridor and did it ourselves. Kitchen reasonably well fitted out but no tongs or egg flip. There is no lighting over the bathroom mirror justa dim central light so shaving and makeup is a challenge.The Oaks is well located and our view from the 7th floor was nice. Lees meer

Stayed in a 1 bedroom apartment. The room was clean and comfortable. Had a nice view over the river from the balcony. Good value for money, would definitely recommend. Only downside, no deck chairs by the pool, which was surprising.

The room was surprisingly very large and the pool, spa & gym were great. However the sauna was broken and the hotel doesn't offer extra towels for the pool so we were told to use our room towels. That wouldn't have been too bad if the in-room dryer wasn't broken leaving us with no spare towels for showering! There was no alarn clock in the room and […] we had ants crawling on the table and kitchenette bench. Having no dining/room service options in the hotel wasn't too bad since the adjacent restaurant strip had plenty to offer. But the hotel was clearly understaffed as the reception desk was hardly ever manned. Water pressure in the showers was fantastic and they were very clean. TV was small but functional. Overall not a bad hotel, just missing the little extras you expect from a hotel rated 4 and a half stars Lees meer

I booked a room for a week over the internet. The hotel was great. They up graded me to a suite and the rooms had veerything you woul need for an extended stay. The view was great from the balcony I used the washer drier and the kitchen daily. these are real money savers as austrailia is very expensive to eat out. I also stayed at the oaks. The Oaks Gateway on Palmer is only a tad less up market than the Oaks M on Palmer but it is so much better located with regard to local restaurants and amenities. It is very accessible by car annd foot, close to the CBD and our room provided great views.

The serviced apartment was clean and very comfortable and at the doorstep of several restaurants. It is a bit of a walk to the waterfront/The Strand area but within easy walking distance of the main CBD of Townsville. Can recommend dinner at Table 51 which is close by - excellent food and wine!!!

I booked through hotels .com and I booked as advertised by you a studio apartment. Oaks gateway does not have studio apartments and the managment offered me a one bedroom apartment the next day. In the room I originally got there was no toaster, microwave or cutlery, crockery. so it was a nice hotel room but not a studio apartment. 'Think hotels .com […] should get their advertising right. Staff very nice, I did trip over the entry to bathroom as same as other floor tiles and does not look like a higher level so watch the trip. The hotel is too white for my liking when you get out of lift on all floors it is white as. Pool not signed in the lift but pool very nice. Close to all restaurants and good parking etc. would stay there again but know it is a one bedroom or hotel room - no studios Lees meer

We picked the hotel because we were looking for a relaxing retreat. For the same money we could have stayed at the Holidy Inn where the rooms are double the size. Very cramped. Couldnt use the bath tub no plugs. Mould around the edge. No one cleaned our room through out the stay. Very limited in room additions. Paying for the bare basics. This place is well located right on the restaurant strip. Its not far from the strand and its right on the river. I loved it. ps. The restaurant strip has a variety of great restaurants but the one we kept going back to was JAM corner right across from the motel. Excellent

It is astonishing that they wanted $30/ day for internet or $99/ wk. At the end of a few gigabytes you are given the option of a slow down (so slow that Skype will not work) or $0.10/megabyte (this is extremely expensive) in which case only 1 gigabyte would have cost $100. To add insult to injury, the subscription works for only one computer. My son […] and I had to use our individual computers so it cost me $198 for the week. Couldn't use my ipad unless I paid a third $99!! An adjacent hotel said they would charge only $10/day. I had no option since I had prepaid for the week. Lees meer

Nice size room (we had the one bedroom apt.). Everything was new and very clean. The washer and dryer and dishwasher were a nice touch too. Kind of far walk from The Strand, but still doable. Only about a 15 min walk to the Queensland Museum and Reef HQ. About 20 min walk to the ferry to Magnetic Island. Lots of restaurants on the street too. Friendly […] staff, nice pool and gym. Our stay at Oaks Gateway on Palmer Street, South Townsville was a little better than expected. We have stayed in the area before but this was prior to the construction of Oaks. The accomodation is an apartment, quite roomy and very clean. Local area caters for tourists but on the Sunday and Monday nights we stayed the street noise was no problem. Might […] be a bit louder on a Saturday. There is no on site restaurant but there is plenty very near by and at very reasonable prices. Just a short walk into the centre of Townsville but as it is undergoing a revamp of the mall, not such a great experience. The local Percy Tucker Art Gallery is definately worth a visit. Lees meer

Our two-night stay exceeded expectations. Friendly, helpful staff, fabulous view from a wide balcony (wider than most, on 9th floor), and crisp modern fit-out with practical comforts made the spacious apartment a 'home away from home'. Only downside was proximity to busy-road's peak period traffic noise, when doors were open. Entrance foyer is spacious […] but lacks a welcoming atmosphere - suggest mirrors, prints and re-painting in warm colours! Otroligt fin lägenhet, stor och väldigt bra när man reser en hel familj. Bra läge mitt i stan, nära till affärr och restauranger. Vi bodde högt upp på hotellet och hade fantastisk utsikt över staden.

Wir waren sehr zufrieden mit diesem Aparthotel. Auch wen wir keine richtige Kochzeile hatten, sondern nur einen Kühlschrank und den üblichen Wasserkocher. Es waren aber Teller, Besteck, Kaffeetassen und Wein, bzw Saftgläser und eine kleine Spüle vorhanden. Das Zimmer war sehr schön und modern, mit LED TV, und DVD Player. Wir hatten das Oaks für unseren Zwischenstop auf dem Weg nach Cairns und für einen Tagesausflug nach Magnetic Island gebucht. Die Anlage und das Zimmer sind wirklich sehr gut, einzig der Internetzugang war mit 22AUD doch recht teuer. Das Zimmer wurde jeden Tag gereinigt und die Einrichtung ist noch recht neu und nett gemacht. Die größeren Apartments […] haben auch eine Kochzeile. Positiv war auch die Lage, man war in wenigen Minuten auf der Flinders Str. wo es viele Lokale, Restaurants und Pubs gibt. Sehr zu empfehlen ist hier besonders die Browerie und der Caktus Jack Saloon. Wir würden das Oaks auf jeden Fall wieder wählen. Lees meer
