Cabañas Tulum in Tulum

We have been traveling to various locations in Mexico for over 25 years. Cabanas Tulum by far, has the nicest, most accommodating staff! Nery, Pappas, Alex, Jose, Daniel...and so many more!! Beautiful beach, delicious food and great location!!! Only one unfortunate issue, the transformer blew, so no AC at night:(

Cabanas Tulum is located in Tulum's hotel zone, smack bam on the beach. It is a relatively basic hotel, but very comfortable. It makes a great base to explore the Yucatan peninsula from, or to go diving in Cozumel. We loved Cabanas Tulum. A bargain considering all you get. The front desk was so helpful with advice about the area and very friendly , especially Sandy. The area is very safe, and feels it. Though a neighbor foolishly left her Iphone on her ground level terrace overnight and it disappeared-take advantage of the safe in the room. This part of the hotel […] is two rows of two story buildings right on the beach. Nicely landscaped and meticulously maintained. The rooms are modest, no tv or phone which is great for relaxing. The wifi is free and slow. Painfully slow downloads but fine for occasional FaceTime connections and checking email. The rooms are simple but very nice, big bathrooms with great showers and hot hot water. Ceiling fans are enough during the day and AC is available 7pm-8am. Enjoyed the free breakfast in dining pavilion overlooking the ocean which offers a wide range of choices with attentive service and never seemed crowded. Best of all the beach is gorgeous. Gorgeous!! The water is amazing. The thing about Tulum is so chill. Laid back. uncrowded and un-corporate. No mega- all-inclusive hotels. The anti-Cancun. Plenty of outdoor adventure type activities. Not to be missed are the nearby ruins, snorkeling with sea turtles in Akumal, and the magical experiences of swimming in the cenotes and climbing the giant Mayan pyramid in Coba. The hotel staff were always accommodating and friendly. the hotel itself sits a an absolutely beautiful beach. We stayed in a high end room, but saw the low end rooms which would have been just fine. Most all the rooms have ocean views and listening to the roar of waves all night brings such peaceful sleeping. The room was elegantly spare. Fantastic location, friendly staff, clean rooms and most amazing view and beach right outside your door. Breakfast excellent but dinner meals average. Recommend other restaurants along the beach road for dinner. Pillows on beds could be softer, but then again didn't ask the staff. Highly recommend for a romantic getaway!

DeLux beach front rooms are exquisite. The view from the bed (or even from the bath room!) is stunning: picturesque palms, golden beach, and the sea. we had a truly relaxing, chilled out holiday. The Cabanas are ideally situated right on the beach and with lots of lounging options once on the beach (hammocks, lounge chairs, day beds) it made it very easy to relax. The staff were all friendly and helpful too.

We had 3 fantastic days in Cabanas Tulum. We had rooms right on the beach so we could walk right out & relax on the sunbeds by the shore, either in the shade of the palm ttrees or out in the full sunshine. We were in a beachfront room and couldn't have been happier with the location and amazing outlook of the room. It is located on a beautiful stretch of the beach. However the bed was uncomfortably hard and the air conditioner didn't seem to be working (however the overhead fan was reasonably effective). The value was fantastic, and the included ala carte […] breakfast was excellent. One night we had dinner at Ziggy's Bistro on site which was quite average. We actually sent back the calamari as it was way too dry, almost inedible. There are better places further up the beach for dinner. Cabanas Tulum is in the "Zona Hotelera" of Tulum. The hotels along this road share a virtually unspoiled beach. None of the hotels are connected to the Tulum electrical or telephone grid and they generate their own electricity. I don't know what the posher places are like but Cabanas Tulum has no TV or telephone service. A/C is limited to certain hours […] but we never turned it on because the onshore breeze kept us always comfortable. Cellphones work so the absence of landlines was no problem. Cabanas Tulum provided free Wi-Fi but it was frequently unavailable. This is not luxury but the setting and staff were terrific. The hotel's restaurant, El Bistro, is excellent and is better than any of the others we tried along the strip. If a steady diet of beach is more than you want, there are the Mayan ruins of Tulum a few miles to the north and those of Coba somewhat further to the west. A few miles to the south is the bio-preserve Sian Ka'an. Less than 20 miles to the north is the lagoon of Yal-Ku offering glorious and uncrowded snorkeling in what seems like a giant tropical fish tank. So, you have a comfortable, if somewhat spartan, room, with genial, attentive and helpful staff, great breakfasts (included), a gorgeous beach and lots of things to enjoy in the area. One caution, the sea (at least in January) is really too rough to swim in. For that, you'll have to go north or south. Lees meer

We loved Cabanas Tulum. You cannot beat the location. It is on the best strip of beach in Tulum. A nice wide, sandy beach, with shady palms. The rooms open up right onto the beach. I loved waking up in the morning and going out to the front porch where I read my book while lying in the hammock. You can eat breakfast right on the beach, or under the palapa behind some glass windows which can block the strong breeze when it is too windy. The staff were all so friendly. Sometimes service at the restaurant was a little slow and disorganized. But ultimately, we were never in a hurry, so we just enjoyed the scenery. We ended up picking this place based on the pictures of previous guests and their reviews. We expected little cabanas on the beach separated from each other; however, this is more hotel-y like...not exactly as we expected from the pictures. However, with that said it was still awesome! The bed was super comfy, the roof-top balcony was awesome, the […] beach was nice, Emer was wonderful as was the Bistro folks. We had a great breakfast every morning off the menu (not continental junk). I'm sure we'll be back...if for no other reason than to play with the little orange kitty :) Other notes: The hotel was far enough down from the other hotels on Tulum Beach that it worked perfectly, not in the main Tulum city and not in the beach hotel area either...just far enough away. For a moderate priced hotel i would heartily recommend this property. The staff is most helpful and the maintenance is good. it is not fancy or plush, but just a good decent place. It is situated on one of the better beach areas of Tulum.

Cabanas Tulum is a wonderful place. The beach is 10 steps from any room and the sand is like white powder. There was always friendly face at the front desk to answer any and many questions about where to eat and even where to get a Dr. The free breakfast was a great perk and we took advantage of it everyday. Nice little boutique hotel. Very laid back. A/C is turned on from 8:30pm to 7:00 am. There's no room service but the Restaurant next door will bring anything to your room. Service is great. People are great. Beach are is also nice. They have bikes for hotel guests. I felt very safe and had no problems.

The wife and I loved this hotel. Our favorite out of the 3 we stayed at on this vacation. We had a beach front cabana with the best view of the beautiful Tulum beach. The staff were personable and friendly. The hotel is fairly rustic with no TV or AC during the day, but all the hotels in Tulum are that way. We plan on coming again.

I like to stay at hotels near the ruins so that I can go see them early without crowds, so I booked this hotel. I didn't like it and if I could do it again, I would stay in Valladolid and just drive up to Ek Balam and maybe eat in the hotel restaurant. We were the only guests that night. The grass was uncut. The leaves were unraked. I just didn't feel […] welcome. The pueblo is indeed full of Mayan houses, but it is dirty and small. We recently spent a few days at Cabañas Tulum in the off season, and had a very nice time there. It's under new ownership, and the cabañas have been renovated recently. I was hesitant at first because the older reviews were not very good. However, that was before the renovation. The rooms are small duplexes, just big enough for a king size bed, cabinet, […] closet and bathroom. They are quiet, even with folks in the room next door. The beach is right there in front of your porch, so the views from your porch hammock are sweet indeed. The restaurant was surprisingly good, and the free breakfast of anything from the menu (including coffees, liquados, etc) was a really nice bonus. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The bar was the only one on the beach with a 2 for 1 all day happy hour, so the expat locals tend to hang out there. I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a comfortable, no frills, quiet place to stay on the beautiful beach of Tulum. Lees meer

This trip was a long time coming for me. Basically, it was my first true vacation... and I'm nearly 36!! A solo traveler, I was in need of a relaxing, rejuvenating trip. One with quiet days, powdery sand, sea sounds and views, deliciously simple food and a great margarita. I found them all! Cabanas Tulum hotel was friendly and welcoming from the moment […] I walked up to the desk. Pati and the staff made me feel as if I were the most important guest in their sweet little hotel on the sea. Being able to see and hear the water from my tidy, accommodating room was a huge perk. I can't imagine staying anywhere on the beach without it. Took their recommendation to practice yoga at the nearby Yoga Shala Tulum and had an incredible Vinyasa class with Akal. Dined in the hotel's Bistro Restaurant each morning, overlooking the beach, with my book in hand. The service was impeccable and the food was really good (especially since it was included in my room's rate). Ordered cocktails on the beach and that just helped to make the lazy days even lazier. The trip to Tulum is like a two hour trip away from civilization. If this appeals to you read on. If you like luxury and amenities and need them to compensate for being bothered by life, stay north in a giant resort. We found our heart here and we have vacationed in Mazatlan, PV, Cancun, Isla Mujeras, Cancun, Cozumel and Playa. The only place that competes […] with the romance of this beach is Zihuatanejo. The staff is accommodating and unseen. The beach is the best of any place mentioned and easy to live on. We lost all our "need" and settled into the sand, ocean and stars.
