We rented a private room/shared bath and found all details in order. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hostel was in a lovely neighborhood. It felt safe and was clean. It offered a nice breakfast, had free wifi and comfortable common areas. It was quiet. We would stay their again!

personal is very friendly. The room isn't very comfortable and noisely during the nignt. The quality of the shared bathroom isn't very comfortable and situated a little far from my room. The price of the parking is very expensive. the hotel is very well situated compare of the price.

Last time I stayed I purchased a room that was shared. This time I decided to spend a little more & get a private room with a shared bathroom, I enjoyed my room. I didn't need a big space, I didn't mind the shared bathroom (w/ about 4 toliets and 3 showers.The rooms and getting in the hostel required a special key, so I felt safe even though I was alone.If […] you enjoy a spacious room I wouldn't recommend, If space isn't a problem than this place is good for you. The room was clean and colorful. There was laptops, food, and special late night activities for guests. Unfortunately I wasnt staying long enough to enjoy the events. The place is close to the train (red, purple, bown lines) and there's bus stop that I used where a few buses serviced and they took you to many places, especially downtown. On top of that the zoo and observatory is within walking distance. There is a dominick's by the train station and a cvs near by. There is a mcdonalds, cleaners, and many other businesses. I payed a good rate compared to hotels. I don't want much, so if you aren't looking for much than you would enjoy this place. Even though this is a budget friendly option they provide a great service and make a good attempt to give the visitors a good stay (with the location, rate, available amenities like computers and breakfast, and a friendly staff). I didn't get much interaction with the other visitors because I was out in the city but there didn't seem to be any questionable people. Lees meer

Great staff. I've never dealt with a staff so committed to making you feel the best way possible. There were some problems with the heating system at the time I was there but they figured it out the next day so it was ok. The facilities, activities, and features are very very good too.

This is the first time I stay in a hostel. I ordered a private room with a shared bathroom. The room just has a double layer bed as the picture showed, a desk and a chair. Its a special place. Obviously, not for royalty folk, mostly because it's a shared bathroom. On that premise, the price for individual rooms could be a bit lower, but other than that, the staff are outstanding and you re likely to meet some wonderful people there.

It felt like home. Friendly, nice, complimentary breakfast, easy parking in the neighborhood and reasonable price. We really recommend this place.

This hostel is geared towards the younger crowd. It is basically a "college dorm" with communal bathrooms (no separate facilities for men and women). The room was clean and tidy but the radiator would not turn down or off so the room stayed too warm. Be sure to take a robe and flip-flops for use in the bathroom!

The Getaway Hostel was a positive experience that only enhanced our great time in Chicago. I lived in both a dorm (2 nights) and a private double room (3nights) and both types were clean, good design and overall great service. I feel like I got great value for my money and I will definitely stay there again if I ever go back!

It was not what we expected. Would have liked to have a bathroom in the room. People should be made aware of these circumstances when they book the room... That was surely not understood. No amenties does not mean no bathroom to me.

This is a welcoming place and in a great location to hope on the CTA and get around. Staff was very helpful. The bathrooms are a little on the tiny size, but it is nice to have one right in your room. This was my first experience at a hostel and the experience I had far exceeded my expectations. The staff was extremely helpful and knowledgeable with the area. The Chicago marathon was occurring during or stay and the staff even put on a pasta dinner for the runners staying at the location. I have stayed at the Getaway during my yearly trip to Chicago for the last three years. I love this hostel and would even rather stay here over a hotel because of the price and activities.

This hostel is nestled in a quaint little neighborhood called Lincoln Park and is blocks (5 minutes walk) from Fullerton station (red and brown lines). It's only 4 stops from Downtown Chicago. Location couldn't be any better for the price I've paid for. If you are traveling in pair, spend a little more and get a private room with shared bath. The room […] we stayed at was very clean. It has an A/C, a fan, desk, a chair, and a window. It also has a walk-in closet. Free continental breakfast in the morning from 7 to 9:30 am. You can stored food in the fridge and freezer in the kitchen and can prepare food in there as well. There are common areas with couches, foosball table, pool table, computers, tv, and free wifi and printing. You can rent bicycles from the hostel or $20 half or $30 full day. They have activities planned for every night of the week such as pub crawl, BBQ, or bike tour. I LOVE traveling to Chicago, but HATE paying exorbitant amounts for overnight accommodations. The Getaway Chicago Hostel is an answer to prayer. It is in the beautiful, Lincoln Park area, has exceptionally easy access to the brown and red lines, as well as access to CTA bus routes on Fullerton, Clark, and Halsted. I think the best part of this place is the people you will meet in the common areas. I suggest getting the single room as oppose to the shared room. If I go back to Chicago, this is where I will stay, bar none.

I thought it was great price for the location we were staying. Lincoln Park with the free zoo is 5 minutes away. Clark Street has great food and plenty of bars. It is definitely for anyone visiting Chicago who has no need for a television.

The general areas are pleasant and the rooms are spartan - which is expected at a hostel, albeit a pretty pricey hostel. Parking was $25 and I could have spent just $3 by plugging a meter for a couple of hours and getting up by 8:00am - which was my departure time. The manager was very rude. He doesn't know how to keep offensive comments to himself. He forgets that he should catered to his guest not the other way around. After all the guest are the ones paying his bills. Everybody else was really nice. But the manager shouldn't give opinions about what a person is cooking or eating when not asked.

I had never stayed in a hostel but the other reviews seemed positive-3 of us were going to a Cubs game and just wanted a place to sleep, but near a neighborhood with lots of night life. Great place, obviously not a 4-5 star hotel, but if you don't mind hostels this is one of the best ones we've ever stayed at. Great staff, very helpful, good location, plenty of room to relax and meet people and exchange information. Highly recommended if you are heading to Chicago.
