Post Hotel in San Francisco

I stayed here in May with two of my friends and I will say that the hotel itself is not that bad. It is a bit more of a "hostel" than an actual hotel, as they have "visiting hours", your linens aren't changed every day, there is an extra charge for more than two people in a room, etc. The front desk staff was polite and the rooms were clean. The biggest […] draw back of the hotel is its location. I don't consider myself to be a person who is scared easily, but I was uncomfortable in this neighborhood at night. Luckily I was traveling with two men, but they seemed to also not like the location much. It is conveniently located if you're wanting to go to Union Square, but I suggest you stay on the other side of it. If you're a girl, especially a girl traveling alone, I don't suggest this hotel for you. Lees meer

Despite a few hidden charges of 2 additional people for a double delux, my overall stay was great. Clean and modern rooms with a spacious bathroom. More than I expected.

Post Hotel is decent and charming. The neighborhood is ok, near Union Square which is a plus BUT the service was horrible! They were rude when I asked if there was early check in, rude when checking in (not early since they did not allow such things), the only semi-cooperative person was the night guy. Positives: Great location, good service Negatives: Toilet and shower located outside of room, creepy drunk guests down the hall. Booking didn't state there was a separate bathroom situation . Only air source was a ceiling fan and window (that didn't lock ) with a fire escape below it. The overwhelming smell in the lobby is urine.

I rated 5 for service because they were very helpful and friendly, I came a bit early from my flight and they let me in despite that I was a few hours early. I rated 3 on the maintenance of the hotel not because it a bit old, but the lack of outlets. I have to move the desk in order to plug in my laptop. I even had to unplug the TV to plug in the refrigerator […] (which doesn't work well) - A multi plug adapter ($3 a piece) would solved this. I rated 5 for cleanliness, I was impressed that my bed was made everyday when I returned from the conference and they respected my little mess of papers and business cards on the desk and left it alone which saves me the confusion. I rated 3 on the comfort because the way the furniture were set up. I feel like if you have the bed and desk on the opposite side of the room - same for the TV'/tv stand the closet wouldn't be blocked and the outlets would be easier to have access too. The location and surrounding neighborhood is perfectly fine, there is homeless people around but they are everywhere in San Francisco. I am satisfied with my stay, and I would come back again, if you make those minor tweaks for the sake of convenience, I am almost certain that our stay would be more enjoyable. Lees meer

From a clock that was one hour behind, to two remotes that did not make initial sense on how to coordinate, to no cleanex in the room it was not quite what I expected... but close. The location was great and the price so good that I have little to complain about! I'd stay there again for the same reasons...

The rooms are small but nicely updated, The shared bath was a little much for me. But the major drawback was the incredibly rude front desk staff. I wouldn't stay there again if you paid me too.

The staff is excellent and overall the hotel is fine. My only real problem is that the toilets are shared (maybe two per floor) and they are not cleaned enough. If I owned this hotel I would ensure it was cleaned twice a day and/or install those antibacterial foam soap dispensers and a paper towel dispenser that way one can quickly cleanse the seat […] before use. The location is great, but if you're looking for a clean hotel look elsewhere. If you are used to european hostels then this will compare well with those, except you have your own room. For a frugal person like me, this was a good match. Nothing fancy about this hotel - and I wanted nothing fancy. The room was clean, the service was appropriate and not intrusive. Lots of hot water in the tub. Fast and reliable free wi-fi. The TV set in the room was replaced with a new one during my stay, which is not particularly important to me, […] but gives an indication that they take care of their facility. The hotel is comfortable and clean, and conveniently located-- a very easy walk to trolley and BART. Hotel staff were very friendly. I did have a bad experience with parking; the hotel manager said they usually have an agreement with a local garage, but it is currently under renovation. If you're looking for a place to crash after a day at the office - this probably isn't your place. I booked the Post hotel about 2 weeks before my trip after some previous plans to stay with a friend fell through. I searched through various hotels and perused many reviews before settling on this one. Well, all I can say is if you want great value for money, an excellent central location - v close to Union Square - with an amazing cafe next door called […] 'Honey honey', free wifi and fantastic quality rooms (I booked a superior deluxe) then you need to stay here. There was also fantastic laundry services on my floor, the staff were friendly and helpful and when I decided to stay an extra night at the last minute the manager offered me a rate very close to the one I'd booked via Hotels.com. I was out all day seeing the city so buy the time i got back and wanted nothing more than to relax, the thought of my clean and secure room with free wifi, free cable tv, fantastic bathroom with a big bath and power shower was well worth it. This place is a nightmare. I knew from the moment I saw the lobby I had made a bad mistake. The elevator had a door which looked like a re-vamped submarine portal. YOU must open it manually and then open a heavy metal grate door before you can step through the 3-foot maximum space. Try pulling your luggage through this. Another patron helped me while […] the manager sat behind his desk. The room was never remodeled and was barely big enough to fit the bed. Pipes and wiring showed everywhere. The bathroom window was painted over so many times that it was frozen to the frame. It gave me the creeps to sleep there. And now, the neighborhood. During the day, this location is fine. At night, it is dangerous. This is a high crime area. While I was there, two policemen spent at least an hour in the tiny lobby. The guests were mainly foreignors who apparently could not read the other reviews. I wound up here because I didn't have the time to go through what other people had to write. the room was nice...clean, decent size. the hotel itself was old and not very well kept. the carpeting in the hallway looked 20 yrs old and was very dirty...there was a strong smell of cheap cleaning solution in the hallway. the lobby was also not well maintained.

The room was pretty tatty and there was a woman's sandal left under the bed. They advertise parking for an extra fee but when I arrived they said it was full and I was on my own to drive around and find it for myself at over $32 per night.Great location but not a hotel I'll remember fondly.

We stayed here to see some of the city and to catch a Giants game - the location was good and the bar across the road is great, and the cafe next door was even better. Staff were somewhat helpful but might have been more so - I wouldn't like to have an issue with them. The lift is very small so be wary if you turn up with a big case.

Was in SF for 2 days with a friend. Last minute booking of hotel landed us at Post Hotel. It was a good price and the location was perfect. Hotel itself was old and the room was tiny (booked King size bed private) the hotel looked like it doubled as a Hostel as well, so lots of common areas (Kitchen, Laundry, Ice, etc) but the room was about the size […] of the bed. You wouldn't think it from the outside or the lobby but this place is extremely nice! Not to mention getting to ride in an old timely elevator was a real treat. Public parking 2 blocks away. Only complaint, no AC so the room was very hot otherwise a great place to stay!

For anyone who likes to shop the Post hotel is the place to stay.In the middle of the 3rd largest shopping in the US. Th e room was nice and everyone was so helpful and nice. If I go back I'll always stay at the Post.

Stayed here for three nights. The location of the hotel is great! Very close to Union Square, Chinatown and Muni/Bart Stations. This was very helpful! The condition of the hotel itself - a bit old and out-dated. The room however was very pleasant. The room had new wood floors, a separate closet and a nicely tiled bathroom (we had our own private bathroom […] - I highly recommend it). Our room had directv, so we were able to watch some of the Olympics before bedtime - but the tv itself was really old. It was an old tube tv. The hotel staff were all very nice. It was a convenient location at a good price with clean room. However, the ancient elevator was like something out of an old black-and-white Hitchcock movie. We only used it once and thereafter used the stairs to the fourth floor - with a very strong flashback to feeling like Sheldon and Penny on "The Big Bang Theory" - the layout and condition were […] uncannily similar - all that was needed was the tape across the elevator doors. Take earplugs to keep out the noise from the bars across the street as smokers hang outside until around 2am. It may be quieter if it is cool enough weather to close the window - we could not. I got what I asked for - a very inexpensive room for 2 people to sleep in, because when I travel, it's not to stay in the hotel room! It's to explore the area. So, as long as the room was clean, I was happy. It was a tiny room with a large king size bed, but it fit the bill. Luxurious it was not, but it certainly had character! LOL! It's a very old […] building that is used as a student dorm. The room and the bathroom had been updated to modern standards. No air conditioning, but it was actually nice that I could open the windows. I liked that. And it was located perfectly in downtown San Fran so we were close to Union Square and Chinatown and the main shopping areas. Even getting to the famous Lombardo Street was a good walk over there. I stayed here for business and it was certainly not of high quality. It reminded me of a European hostel. It's fine for people traveling on a dime - though it was pricey when I stayed there. This is an unsafe hotel. It is old and broken. If you must stay here, as I had to, do not get on th elevator. Inside the room, no place to sit. Hotel also serves as a weekly/monthly drop in with toilets and showers in the common area.
