The Saxon House - B&B in York

Hotel had a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The room needs updating and as there were only two of us the single bed made the room cramped but would have been OK if there was a young child with us. Location is great - well within walking distance to the city centre and a reasonable car park at the rear. Breakfast was very good.

Well located within walking distance of the town. Hotel provided just what we needed with helpful friendly staff as well. Would certainly stay there again.

Hotel is on a very busy road. Sat nav took us to a dead end road past the hotel-so post code is not reliable. We tried to phone the hotel to let them know we would be arriving late, however the number on the booking form was only available 9 to 5 and was not the phone number for the hotel. Room was clean and tidy though VERY cold-would not recommend […] for a winter stay! We were unable to turn the rad on. En-suite was clean though very small-it was a tight squeeze to get into the shower. No lift in the hotel, so was a bit of a trek up to the top floor. Car parking very limited-there are a few spaces available at the back of the hotel on a first come first served basis. Breakfast was included in the price and was ok. Staff were friendly though manager told us on our arrival that she was about to lock up and leave! Explained we had tried to phone but was unable to do so. This was a well positioned property and the staff were ever so obliging and helpful. It looked like it was in the middle of some renovation work, so was a little tired looking - same with the rooms. Very nice folk and once spruced up, with some fresh bedding etc would be great

nice room and breakfast, and only about a 10 min walk to the city centre (and thats walking with a girl wearing heels)....really, what more does anyone expect from a b&b?!

Stopped with a few friends for just a night, we were located on the top floor which was very quiet, breakfast was included in the price and was of good quality.

Welcomed to the hotel. There was some decorating and buidling work in progress, but this did not affect our stay. Rooms were pleasntly warm in spite of the cold weather

Looked at photos before we booked. We must have been given the worst room even though we were told we had been given an upgrade. Everything looked dreary, and the shower room was disgusting...missing tiles and mould around the seals. Not very pleasant. A very welcoming hotel with Debbi the hostess with the mostest who made our stay very enjoyable with her friendly chat each day.The room was very spacious with plenty of storage space for clothes + ample supply of coffee/tea + biscuits,the bed very comfortable + spacious bathroom with shower cubicle(toiletries supplied) which was cleaned to a very high […] standard. The Breakfast available included cereal/yoghurts/juice/coffee/tea + full English (cooked lovely + very filling). The only problem we had was the Sat Nav sent us to about a mile away,it seems Fulford rd is misleading,83 Fishergate is correct for directions, opposite New walk terrace/lighthorseman pub.Ps. Very welcoming and good value, given that the breakfast is of a good standard. Helpful and friendly owners. Free wi-fi. Well positioned - fifteen minutes from city centre on foot.. Bed and breakfast at its best.

I would definitely recommend the hotel for anyone staying in York. We broke down on the way but the landlady stayed up past 10pm for us after we called her. The hotel is decorated nicely and is very clean. Very easy to find and only a 10 minute walk from the city centre (15 minutes if you take the lovely walk by the canal) but there are local pubs across […] the road if you don't want to walk too far. There was no allocated parking by the time we arrived but we were told to park in the school next day, which the landlady offered to pay for (we paid anyway, it was only £3 for the weekend) but a lovely gesture all the same. Breakfast is served quickly and you are given keys to the front door so you don't have to be in bed by 9! Only downside, food is not allowed in the room but we didn't see this until we saw the sign behind reception as we left, so just a warning in case you get caught out! Lees meer

We made a last minute booking as travelling with relatives from toronto. hotel very good for the price paid. we didnt expect the ritz but the hotel was clean, the breakfast delicious and great location which was easy to find.

We stayed over the weekend as a couple and we had a good laugh with the lady who managed the premises, she was great to talk to and the warmth of the service was definitely there. It is an old building but refurbished inside recently as we understood bringing the facilities up-to-date. Room was considerably clean, only niggles are that the dressing […] table chair was dirty and so were the cutlery provided with tea. Bed was comfortable and we had a good rest. Breakfast (mainly full English) had little continental selection but was of good taste. The location is quite a bit away from station but for someone who could walk it will take 20 min to station and longer to main sights. When we arrived the owener helpfully gave us a map and explained the different walking routes into town - there is a lovely walk by the riverside which takes around 15 minutes. Location of b&b was closer than we were expecting to the city centre, just a short 10 minute walk. However, we had a little trouble finding the location via satnav, the post code didn't match the address. Room was a little outdated and in need of repair e.g. door to en-suite was coming off hinges. Breakfast was enjoyable and staff were friendly.

Perfectly acceptable though maybe sligtly unexciting B&B about fifteen minutes walk from York city centre. The room we had (double room on the top floor) was a bit pokey: Enough room to get to the bed and back, but little more, the bathroom was not much bigger. The only other thing was there were a lot of notices reminding us of cleaning charges if […] we broke anything, making it feel a little like an old youth hostel. After being seduced by their website and pricing we decided to book the Saxon House B&B. However when we arrived we weren't impressed... The welcome wasn't the warmest and when we got to our room we felt a little cheated. The room was tiny, not even big enough for a double bed, instead it was 3/4 size. It was nothing like the rooms pictured on their […] website and made for an uncomfortable nights sleep. Needless to say the bathroom was even smaller, tatty and mouldy. The breakfast was also poor. On the plus side it was located only 10mins walk from York city centre (albeit not a pretty walk!) and the room was cleaned every day. Sadly though, we find it hard to recommend The Saxon House B&B. Rommet, badet og sengetøyet var rent og fint. Hyggelig og behjelpelig vertskap. Selv om de ikke alltid var tilgjengelig i selve resepsjonen, var de raskt på plass dersom vi ønsket kontakt. Saxon House is close to the centre of York and easy to find. The service was superb, they helped us finding shops and gave tip about things to visit. A good breakfast, changing towels every day and made our beds. We felt like kings and can really recommend the B&B to others!

Nyrenovert gammel bygning med særpreg. Koselige rom, med nøktern standard. Pasase gangavstand til bysentrum. Gode parkeringsmuligheter. Koselig og imøtekommende personbell. God frokost med mange valgmuligheter. Saxton kan anbefales,men det er ikke heis, og tre etasjer, så det er ikke tilrettelagt for fungsjonhemmede.
