This is an older hotel but it is as clean as you can get and the staff is so very friendly and accommodating. It is walking distance to the Civic Center, China Town, Market Street, shopping, restaurants etc. If you are looking for a "resort" type of hotel this is not your place but if you need an affordable, comfortable, safe, clean, friendly place […] to crash between running around town this is the place to stay. The owners/employees were very friendly. However, it is located in a very rough part of town. It's pretty much in the Tenderloin and my friend and I didn't feel safe getting back to the hotel at night. If you're not worried about what the hotel looks like at all because you don't plan on spending much time there, then not a big deal. It will definitely make you want to stay away from your room and come up with other things to do so you don't have to go back. The pluses are that the parking is probably the cheapest around, although it's not onsite and that there is free breakfast. In some of the other reviews I read that there are a lot of homeless people around the hotel. There definitely are more in that area than others. It was a pretty sketchy neighborhood. There was literally a guy out front in the middle of a crowded street urinating on a car. My room was heated by an old steam radiator. It was off most of the time, made a bizarre sputtering noise when it came on, and made the floor over half the room wet... I was here with my Irish GF on St Pattys Day weekend & the stay here was great! It's funny cause even the decor with all the green walls was represented for the weekend. The beds are comfortable & the room was spacious. You can't go wrong with the "Make your own Waffle" machine as part of the free complimentary breakfast. We'll be back again.

that's right the mattress was covered in a plastic lining with only a top sheet and a top blanket. The bed was hard and loud outside. Also, the neighborhood is scratchy and its worth the extra money to stay closer to union square or even the wharf. The front desk was no help and when I asked if the room was available an hour early he responded with […] " oh no, it's not ready" I thought that was a weird way to respond. However, the building is old, the location is not in the best neighborhood, the only elevator broke down for the 3 days I was there, and there was no urgency to have it repaired. Room was cold no heat, horrible neighborhood was expecting my car to be sitting on blocks when I woke up.Police and Fire sirens blaring all through the night. The bed was hard as a rock, in short this place was a dive , I wouldn't have my dog stay there.

When I checked in the room I was given was already occupied so I had to return to reception where I was given another room. As it was on the 2nd floor as opposed to the 4th floor I presume it was a bit noisier but not too noisy to disturb sleeping. I didnt not stay, i walked in to their office and asked if i can see thier rooms prior to checking in. So after they checked me in, i went to the room and the bed was not made, it beds were maybe a foot apart from each other and the whole room was small as it is. i went back down stairs and asked about their parking and the clerk told me that they have […] a garage 5 minutes away and it would cost me $22 and leave my vehicle outside and they would take care of it. I didnt not trust the area for a family nor would i trust leaving my vehicle in that area for them to take it 5 minutes away from the hotel. Not being familiar with the city, I was shocked by the hotel location. There was no parking, and we had to park a few blocks away and walk a few blocks back to the hotel. The hotel offered to park car, but it was expensive. The area is not a safe place to walk alone, and i had my two teenage daughters with me. I came for the Nike Womens Marathon. The room was clean, but a little too warm. I was able to turn off the heat, but still slept with the windows open all night. I've stayed in a lot of hotels in SF, this was not the most luxurious but it had the friendliest staff of any hotel. They where very helpful and inviting. The overall hotel was older, maybe in need of a revamp, but I enjoyed the style and grace of the place.

Hotel was fine. Didn't need much from the staff. Door to room had some gaps and the walls aren't very well insulated. Main warning is be careful if you're walking to/from. Go a couple blocks SW and it's not a good part of town. I'm a big dude - 6'1" and 265lbs, so I was fine. But I wouldn't take my family through.

The hotel advertising was very misleading. It appears to be in the heart of San Francisco. But it really is in the bad part of town. There were a lot of drug addicts and homeless people outside the hotel. There is not parking. You have to pay for valet parking and have to wait 20 minutes for your car to arrive. The only plus if you want to walk and […] explore the city on foot is that there was a bus stop right smack in front of the door. The hotel is very old. Maybe 19th century. It had one of those elevators with the sliding grilled iron doors. Quite charming really. The rooms had the old radiator for heating and flourescent lighting, but the beds were comfortable and he had extra amenities like toothbrushes and even deodorant, so that's something. The only thing was the neighborhood. Quite scary. You can hear fighting and police sirens almost every night. If you're a traveller who's alone with self-defense knowledge and doesn't need to walk the streets, then you can probably stay there because it's pretty cheap plus they serve Nutella at breakfast so it's okay for the price. This was one of the cheapest hotels I could find based around Union Square, and it was a decent stay. The staff was nice, the rooms were clean. I don't know if it was just my room but it was very moist and hot, everywhere else I slept in San Francisco it was never this hot (at night). Good old hotel at good price. Breakfast needed a little help...better selection would have been nice as well as a later time allowed....currently 6-9am only. This may change as I told them this was unusual and other places are till 10am. Check and see.

do not stay here. horrible service, came with my boyfriend and daughter just for the weekend, although they did let us check in early, we did not recive a crib in our room even though we requested it months in advanced, we also had to walk the crib alll the way to room which was on the 4th floor. we paid for vallet parking service, it took them over […] an hour to bring the car back to the hotel when we needed it, they sent us the wrong car, it was not worth the money. hotel was very old there were cracks in our walls, there was no ac/heater in the room, you only get up to 5 channels on the tv, we had to buy our own dvd player just to watch a movie.
