Wonderful staying in such a historic old building and learning the history of the prison. Terrific for families. Very comfortable beds. Lovely attention to detail with toiletries and in kitchen and living area. We will be back!

Much better than expected. Host, James, was friendly, helpful and informative about the gaol. Simple accomodation as expected but very clean. Communal bathroom was renovated, clean and modern. Would recommend to anyone.

It was quite an adventure staying in an old cell in an old jail. Of course we were completely comfortable!

A really unique experience in an atmospheric place where the owners have made huge efforts to provide comforts the former inmates would never have experienced! A fun stay and a great change from your typical regional accommodation options. Really highly recommend but do understand there are shared facilities and it is still very much the vibe of the original gaol. But that is what makes it so great!

A unique hotel experience, I stayed in a gaol cell in the women's section of the gaol. Really enjoyed wandering through the gaol, particularly in the early hours. Fantastic.

Cool Experience but Bad Service and Cleanliness
We were super hyped when we got here, at check in the girl was super nice and the room was as expected. Overall, a cool experience staying in an old jail, right? The next morning I was up at 5:30am because I work remotely and needed to take a work conference call. I went into the common area, and there was a guest sleeping there, as she did not want to sleep in her room. She made it really awkward, acting as if I was walking into her bedroom to take a call. We got our stuff together and checked out by 10am. I had another conf call at 9:30am, so again I took it in the common room. At 10:15am, the girl working there came in and was SO rude, speaking down to us, telling us we need to 'remove ourselves from the premises immediately' and basically just being insanely rude. We were the most polite, clean guests, so to be treated like that was completely out of nowhere. It was very clear her sweet facade at check in was phoney as could be. There were about 8 people staying at the jail in total while we were there (that we saw at least) so there was no justifiable reason. She could have just asked the same thing nicely, that's why it was so confusing. We later found out we'd gotten athletes foot from the showers at the jail, so the cleanliness of the shower facilities leaves a lot to be desired. Overall, it's a cool experience, but based on the service and (lack of) cleanliness, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Staying at The Old Mount Gambier Gaol was a very unique experience. We stayed in the 2 bedroom apartment and it was an interesting place to stay for 1 night. If you are looking for something different, I recommend the Gail. The staff are exceptionally friendly.

I know its an expense but ceiling fans to circulate some air would have guaranteed a restful sleep , especially when driving big distances . Maybe info on not much room so minimum bags into rooms. Other than that it wad an enjoyable experience
