Auerbachs Keller has roots dating back to the 1400s, when a wine (or at least the historical equivalent of a wine bar) sat on the same spot in Leipzig. The bar, and later restaurant, evolved over the centuries, even notably becoming one of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s favourite watering holes in the 1700s.
