4/10 – Redelijk

Let me get started with the location, which is perfect, just 2 minutes walking from Columbus circle and Central Park. From Columbus circle you can take the subway to all parts of Manhattan! The hotel itself is definitely not anymore what it used to be. I am staying here for the last 7 years, where it all started with big parties in the Hudson bar, a beautiful rooftop, lots of nice people and the amazing design and atmosphere of the architect Philip Starck. Nowadays... it’s... in a amazingly bad shape, lots of things broken, grumpy staff, they turned up all the lightning removing the characteristic atmosphere :-(
Rumor is that there is a new owner who wants to cut down costs heavily, they try to get rid of the staff but the staff is protected by the union, which makes the staff insecure and grumpy. The rooftop is closed now for more than a year, even the bar is closed and they have a little shop at the entrance, which is bizar. Nevertheless the rooms are clean (enough), the location is good and if the price per night doesn’t exceed the 70USD then is it worth considering. One headsup though, they charge you a daily hotel fee including a 10 USD bar credit which doesn’t make sense if the bar is closed. Make sure you get that money back or don’t pay it!
