Don't expect a new and fresh room. It's run down and does need updating. The beds however are very good and clean. The room is the biggest we've ever had in NYC, which is definitely a plus. Location is very close to the red 1-2-3 subway lines (literally around the corner) and a small walk away from Central Park. It has also been the most quiet room we've had in NYC, but the heating system in the window made very loud ticking noises during the (first) night. Uplugging it from the electric outlet did the trick and it was silent the following nights. The room was a good temperature anyway (in December), so there was no need for using the heating.
What bothered us the most is the night doorman. Never have we met anyone more rude than this guy. Don't expect anything from him, no help, no greetings, no service. This guys job is just to be rude to you.
Desk personnel is helpful and friendly.
Rooms are made every day (to the contrary of other reviews) but be AWARE: beds are only made if there is NOTHING personal on the bed. They will not touch the bed if you have a piece of clothing or another personal item on it. Clean towels are provided daily, as is coffee and free bottles of water. A change of bed sheets is only on request.
