Disappointed!
Very disappointed that the reservation was for handicap accessible, but when we arrived, the room and grounds were not as accessible as expected. One elderly guest needed grab bars and shower chair and was told that was requested but not guaranteed. This was critical and I wouldn’t have booked had I known that. Staff was not able to make small accommodations other than supply a shower chair which was not received until the following day. They claim to be ADA compliant but not sure how anyone traveling alone could navigate the grounds without help. Staff seemed uninterested in finding a solution and would rather apologize for not being able to do anything. Hmmm…maybe have maintenance run to Home Depot for grab bar?… they make them that are not a permanent install. Although…wouldn’t it make sense to equip all rooms with grab bars? Problem solved… now when advertising accessible rooms, at least guests with mobility issues can safely and confidently use the bathroom. Seems management could look at upgrades that could make safety a priority. Food was good but expensive. Service was good. Overall, this was my mother’s last trip to say goodbye to Florida. Unfortunately for her, the lack of these safety devices made it embarrassing and uncomfortable having to rely on others to use the bathroom. Too bad management doesn’t think of these things…it would have made a world of difference.
