Perfect location for visiting the Old Market, but they have slipped a bit. No cleaning or towel service. They missed us. And the TV cable service did not work. There were only 2 elevators and we frequently waited for 3-5 minutes, only to have to take the stairs anyway because the elevator was full. The staff was friendly, but the hotel needs to reinvest in some capital improvements.
More disappointing was the Old Market. We’ve been coming to the Old Market from KC for many years. It used to be an awesome place. Brick roads, great bars and restaurants, and a lively Farmers Market on Saturday mornings. The city has simply let it go to the homeless and unruly. I wouldn’t stay out much past sundown, especially with young children. We actually saw one homeless person chase another with a knife. And the teenagers are obnoxious and incredibly rude. We had my 6 year old niece with us, and she probably heard 10 f-bombs over the weekend. These teens had no issues running around the market, cussing, and yelling at each other. The city should get serious about this problem if they want to continue to have families from KC drive up and spend a few thousand dollars over a weekend.
