This was a weird experience. When making the reservation, I did not read far enough into the description to note that the hotel is INSIDE Fort Bragg. This presented some unexpected ... and awkward ... moments, especially when I pulled up to the security gate and had to explain that I had a reservation at this hotel. They let me in with no problem, but when I attempted to return to the property later after leaving it for dinner, the guard there did not want to let me back in, stating that I should have registered my driver's license at the visitor's center, adding "they told you wrong." Fortunately, he reluctantly let me in anyway. This did not reflect well on the security procedures at the Fort. Once in the hotel, the room was perfectly nice ... no issue there. But another extremely odd thing was that the landscaping immediately adjacent to the hotel (lawns, flower beds, kids' play area in center courtyard, etc.) were completely untended and a mess. The lawns appeared not to have been mowed all season, and were completely overgrown; clearly no effort at all had been expended to keep the grounds even close to attractive. Especially odd, since all the neighboring buildings' lawns were neatly mowed and tidy. This property seems to be treated by the Fort as a nuisance, an afterthought. While the room was fine, I would not recommend this hotel ... or the experience, for anyone not expecting to go onto a military base ... to either a civilian or a member of the military.
