We stayed in a suite that was full of character and looked out on the Bairro Alto. The fixtures were perhaps beginning to look slightly worn, with a wobbly tap faucet and broken tiles behind the sink, as well as some spots in the living room that could have done with some cosmetic painting.
The staff were very friendly and gave us a drinks voucher while we waited for the room to be ready, even though we arrived an hour before our check-in time of 3pm.
One thing I don’t particularly like with hotels of this nature (think Ace, Sonder, etc) is that there is no traditional front desk service. Communication was through a WhatsApp phone number that they share with you by sending you hotel information at check-in. However, when I messaged it twice for some coffee pods, nobody answered, even though the message had been read. Also, whilst passé, being able to pay for drinks at the bar in cash would be nice. Otherwise, a very nice experience.
