Shopping in Taipei

Shopping in Taipei is practically a national sport. There’s a remarkable number of shopping malls, boutique stores and local markets, selling everything from the very finest luxury items to the simplest little tourist trinkets. Da'an and Xinyi districts are particularly popular with shopaholics, with every other building being an air-conditioned mall containing an impressive range of international brands, generally located close to the Taipei Metro. Whole swathes of these areas are devoted specific types of products, enabling you to buy unique items from local designers and craftsmen, usually at excellent prices.

Night markets are also a major part of Taipei shopping, with countless examples dotted throughout the city, the best of them spanning large areas and hundreds of stalls. They’re particularly famous for their excellent street food, though many also sell a truly remarkable array of wares and are a great place to find a few bargains on great souvenirs.
