I'll stay somewhere else next I'm in Salem
For $75 a night I already knew I wasn't staying in luxury. Plus the nightly government rate is $110 in Southern Illinois.
When I got into the room it was cold as the heater had not been on prior to my arrival. They're also still using the older heaters that aren't thermostat controlled. This was during the snow storm of Jan. '25. Also had to roll my suitcase through the snowy parking lot.
The desk in the room was about to fall apart and wasn't going to be very useful for doing work on. However, I fixed the desk or I finished putting it together. Not sure which but I can certainly say I left it better than I found it.
My first night there I was starled awake by the sound of some sort of electronic beeping that sounded like it was in my room but I was unfamiliar with the sound. As I got closer to finding the source, the beeping stopped.
I forgot my key as I was leaving the room the next morning. When I returned in the evening I explained that I forgot the key to my room, in my room. I was given a new key to use. I tried using the key and it would not unlock my door. However, every time I tried to use that key and it's not working, it's now making the same electronic beeping I heard at the 0400 hour that woke me up.
I do not know for certain that someone may have attempted to enter my room. The door(s) at the rear of the building are not secured. You didn't need a room card to enter the building as one was not secured and the other with a sign 'use other door'.
