Gros Islet sits in the heart of the hospitality-focused Rodney Bay area and offers tonnes of guesthouses and lodgings, plus superb restaurants, scenic views, and festivals. It's perhaps best known for its Friday Night Jump Up street party that goes on every week. Rum shops dot the streets, as do local barbecue joints, bars, and pubs. You can walk the Rodney Bay jetty or climb to the observation deck for stunning Caribbean views.

Derek Walcott Square in town is marked by a gigantic 400-year-old Samaan tree. It's all located along the island's northwest coast.
The town hosts 2 bazaar-type markets. The first is the Castries Central Market, which offers a farmers market experience and is a century old. Across the street is the Craft Market that is huddled under a big red roof. Both get crowded and vibrant on Saturday mornings. This is a place to visit if you want to see what a genuine farming and fishing village in the Caribbean looks like. You'll find small independent shops here, but no sites that cater specifically to visitors. Still, the locals are welcoming and friendly, and you'll find great photo opportunities.
