We stayed here some 11 years ago as well, and wanted to come back to end this year's trip to Thailand in the relative luxury we were used to from this hotel.
However, the feeling we once had was not there anymore. Rooms outdated, no amenities (not even umbrella's in the room?? We've always had them in Thailand, even in waaay cheaper hotels. Staff borrowed us two during a heavy rain shower, carefully noting the hotel only had four left. Pardon me? How expensive could these be?? If they get stolen, just use non-brand umbrella's for the rooms...), room was only made up for 2 pax even though we stayed with 3 (sharing wet towels), no in-room coffee on the 2nd day, empty minibar, breakfast restaurant extremely noisy and understaffed (piles of empty plates everywhere on our and other tables), garden pool not able to accomodate all the guests because of the maintenance on the terrace pool (why not put some beds in the large garden - and even maintain that garden well??).
Overall, I had the feeling this hotel got stuck in it's success during the 2000's and is currently mis-managed or even un-managed.
The only and main benefit is the river view from the room. But would I come back only for that, to stay in sub-par service at a premium price? No, thanks.
When charging a premium, please act like a premium hotel...
There are way better hotels at way better prices in Bangkok...
